@@doctoruttley in the past their m390 was too soft. People rockwell-tested them and they used to be well under 60hrc. However, i have heard that lionsteel improved that, and that its fine now. My lionsteel m4 is definitely not too soft.

Lionsteel, no doubt. I have both -- the Proper and the 2 blade Lionsteel. It was just necessary to open and close one at a time. That was a very easy test with a clear winner -- Lionsteel. Now, if one checks the details, the Proper dies in shame!

As much as I adore Benchmade, I feel they didn't leave it all on the field with the Proper. It didn't quite know where it fit in terms of use in their lineup. Was it for outdoorsy stuff? Was it a "gent's knife"? It's hard to say. The Lionsteel doesn't look like the sort of thing you'd take camping, given the steel and geometry, but it does look like a great EDC knife. I love Bencmhades, but I think on this one, I'm gonna have to go Italian.

@@Barbabeppo actually they did get some low Rockwell tests the apology was for not consulting with line steel and collector knives before he published and posted a video. Essentially not giving them a chance or letting them explain the problem which I think is crap there is no need to apologize if you find something that is wrong with a product.., and it kills me to know this because I love lionsteel designs and own some myself.

Shipping a knife to Lionsteel from US costs $40, and you have to send it without insurance because they won’t accept international packages with more than a $10 claimed value. I learned this after getting a factory defect. Lionsteel ignored my emails for 3 months and then acted like I owed them a favor for finally responding to me. Benchmade doesn’t treat their customers this way.

I’d have to take the BM Proper for the same reason I prefer it over the LS Roundhead/Shuffler. Despite both models using screws, the BM is the only one that can actually be disassembled, wearas the screws on the LS are only to allow bolster and scale swaps. If your going to put big ugly screws on a classy traditional, the least you can let me do it take it apart for maintenance. Also, while m390 is technically superior to s30v, there’s been a fair bit of evidence lately that LS undercooks their m390, whereas BM has one of the best s30v heat-treatments around. The only way the Proper could be improved for me is if BM also offered wood scales (as found in the hunting line), as I feel it would really class the Proper up instead of Micarta, G10 or CF.

I watched a video were somonen did a cut test with rope using buck s30v and benchmade s30v and both had same bevel degree of either 15 degree or 17 degree, cant remember but both had same edge angle and the buck out performed it by a considerable amount of cuts. Its there BOS heat treat that gives them their incredible edge retention

Christian Williams it's not a quality issue on the Lionsteel models, it's a design feature. All straight edges on the bolsters, backsprings, liners and inlays are rounded. So there's the impression of a gab, but there is none. This feature is used to make the industrial production easier, you can easily switch between different models
