Hi, a little hint if (light) batoning with slip joints is wanted or necessary. Hold the handle parallel to the wood in 90’ angle to the blade. Therefore the force to the lock / joint isn’t that devastating. The cowboy storyline with the stick horse was cute :)

Dudes... I just happily replaced my old discontinued Gerber AR 3.0 with a boxed one I found in the Netherlands, after 20 years of solid use as a woodworker and builder and hiker/camper it had lost around 30mm off the length from all the sharpening etc, and picked up some rattles. It's only AUS-8 steel but kept sharp and strong for two decades and kept on surprising me. Totally recommend it as a cheaper-end knife of quality.

When batoning with a folder it is usually recommended to do so with the blade not fully unfolded (set in its halfstop if it has one) and the handle placed downwards parallel to the wood being split.

This slipjoint is typical for casual knife use and some woodcarving, but don't use it for ferro striking because it will ruin the knife's spine. I use mine for typical utility purposes and to meal prep and cut open mail. It is a sharply made knife I recommend.

For the ones wondering why not a locking mechanism. Locking mechanism on a folding knife is not a must. Knives are tools. If you don’t need to stab with them you don’t need the lock. All the bush crafting skills highlighted on this video do not require stabbing. If you are going to let’s say, hunt and skin, render big portions of meat then a lock would help as there you are stabbing the animal but at that point, one could probably make the argument that for those tasks you rather have a fixed blade. In my country (Spain) in the north, there is a tradition of small pocket knife that’s sort of shepherd knife. Simple non-locking folders of a certain type of wood that you can wet and will expand and sort of tighten the blade if you need, they carry easy, are sharp enough, they don’t have an amazing edge retention but are very easy to sharp. The kind of knife for small daily tasks of a shepherd. You can rest assured that If he needs to kill a lamb he will not use the folding knife...

Here is how they are done kzread.info/dash/bejne/lKuet66kp7jelbw.html They are cheap (you can still buy them for 15-40 euros the basic ones depending on the finishes) but do a good job on the day to day. Nowadays there are still 30-50 artisans on that region doing that type of knife.

Dbk making coffee with Bialetti moka machine. I did't expected to see the little man with big mustaches in your videos.. Funny cameo. Good storytelling as we are used to see and interesting slipjoint knife from Lionsteel, which now massively uses M390 on it's knives. Personally I like it on folders but on fixed looks a little too brittle and prone to micro chipping for an HD fixed blade.
