Slingshot 633 Phantasm Hydrofoil Ride and Review

Спорт

We take the new 633 all carbon Phantasm hydrofoil from Slingshot out and put it through its paces. Very stiff mast and HUGE base plate. A little more expensive $1848 than a Moses 633 setup but comes with covers and a bag, also currently lacks the versatility of multiple wings but those are soon to come out. There are 3 versions of this foil (we tested the 633). Here are the stats for each version's front wing:
633 front wing: Span: 633mm Chord: 263mm Area: 1270cm2
730 front wing: Span: 730mm Chord: 115mm Area: 665cm2
657 front wing: Span: 657mm Chord: 132mm Area: 743cm2
You can see these foils and many more on our website here:

    I bought this exact set up - 3'10" board and 633 foil - from Houston Kiteboarding. It's AWESOME! I learned on this rig, have improved very quickly on it, and see no end in site in terms of outgrowing it. Hard turns, cruisy turns, surfing...it's all good! The foil is plenty fast for non-psycho purposes and generates tons of user-friendly lift. That being said, I look forward to getting the next-fastest foil and doing a direct swap with the 633...

    So Fun! Slingshot is coming out with larger wings for the Phantasm which is why we were really putting that fuselage and mast to the test. I'm thinking that they will have something as large as the 99cm infinity (1100 moses) in the lineup by summer time. Thanks for the comment!

    @@midlerp thanks, ill wait for the weather to warm up here in Sacramento. I'm thinking of the 633. Due to the shorter mast, and possibly winging options. Though I have been foiling for 3 years but do not care for all that speed that the other phantasm models offer.

    @@tomasgulas for sure! 102cm is a legit long mast, I'm very excited for the wing foil options on this setup. I think Slingshot made great call going to such a bomber design for long term multisport clients. Thanks!!

    I noticed the gap u talk about when adding the moses foil is present when mounting w950 moses wing. I also noticed when I put the original wing 633, there is the same gap in the back, but longer. No gap in front.

    For sure. Did you use some foam tape or something to fill it? It is probably fine in any case. We were just stoked that the bolts holes lined up and the camber was close to a match. a flush fit was probably too much to ask for. Thanks for the comment.

    Will other winging wing fit other than the 1100? I see there are bit smaller wings like 1000 or 950 and I wonder if those would fit. I'd say yes as they are also for winging and logically should fit the same moses fuselage. Did you try fitting those as well?

    Does it float up on it's side like the 91/Onda (Ghost Whisper 91)? Or does the foil drop and it drifts downwind. Any different whether mounted to a floaty deck vs pocket deck? (yes I hate having to body drag multiple upwind tacks to get back to bobbing 633 on a pocket board). Thanks

  • @midlerp

    @midlerp

    3 жыл бұрын

    It will drop in the water with any board that has volume on the rails. So if it is a pocket board but actually has some thickness to it, it won't stay on its side. The thin wood boards like the Crazyflys etc will sink on their side and give that wing a chance to float and stay up wind. For others reading this comment that have not experienced the phenomenon....it is a thing and very annoying!

    Foil brands really should standardise the naming/sizing. It's far more logical naming the foil by its area rather than wingspan. For example with this range the 633=1270cm2, 730=665cm2, 657=743cm2, this clearly shows the wingspan doesn't give a clear idea of the size of the wing. Just a thought

    No way. I haven't tried but would be absolutely blown away if it did. The GW wing had a lot less camber along with a bunch of other factors.

    not a fan of the downward-pointing winglets. more fragile, drag and wonder why such a big wing would need additional tracking. also the slot i think requires high production precision and as such rather gives room for unprecise fit. finally why spend so much money if you can't rely on the brand to stick to a consistent system/approach. Moses/SAB has clear advantages with its proven modular system. if i spend that money i want the best, not a good alternative. nice vid though, keep it up.

  • @midlerp

    @midlerp

    Yes, you are correct at these speeds the winglets do NOTHING. It is for the guys who plan to get hit in the face with that wing edge at some point. From experience winglets are nice and soft compared to an edge like the Moses 633. This is a common design feature on a lot of wings that are slated for freeride. Higher aspect and specialty wings will be more efficient and demand more experience so they drop the winglets in general. Thanks for the comment and keen observation!
