REED Planes did it again and came up with a fantastic pinch rod design. with the Sliding Dovetail Pinch rods, you can easily measure out the drawer bottom or drawer width. and with a few add ons you can measure a lot more than that.

Thanks for taking on the challenge and helping with a bunch of interesting solutions to keep the router locked away. Hope everyone can take on the challenge of small pieces of wood and have fun.
I love your "loses an i" shirt!
I never want someone to look at me the way he looks at that piece of wood at 7:22
Wow a 3 T-shirt project, sweet project James.

Nice project! Interesting, useful, with some challenges to keep your focus! Thanks!!
A very nice set of pinch rods
Nice! Thank you!
Cool tool man.😎👍
Love the imaginary number T-shirt.
Very cool
Fantastic
Very cool. Similar idea to the little rod that slides out of the end of my folding rule to allow inside and depth measurements

that little sliding rod is a leftover from the age of pinch rods. pinch rods were what people used before tape measures and folding rules.
Proving again that making doesn’t always need a number to get a measurement right.
This could also be used to check diagonals for square.

It's most common use nowadays.
Cool tool but no way I wouldn’t get fed up and just use power tools to make this SOB. Props for keeping it hand tools only (for the most part) on something tiny and frustrating like this.
Brilliant, James! Fantastic work! 😃 But I was thinking... You could easily make it with an aluminum T track! Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

Aluminum T-track is great idea for sure
Wow, that's a lot of work for manufacturing a tool that I gerryrigged with a pair of big binder clips and some thinly ripped offcuts that I just sharpened to a point
Nice tool. The only thing I didn't like about the tool is that the bolts at the end are not in alignment with each other which could affect the measurements. However this is an easy fix.

Good catch

that is standard for pinch rods but no that does not change the measurement.
Did this first appear on first of April?

What? it came out today.
Hello. I just tried to access the plans on your website. In the video you indicated that the plans were free. On your site they are $5. Did I miss something? Either way, I enjoy your channel and look forward to watching your videos!
Fuuuuuuurst!

The fact that it frustrated YOU off of a shooting schedule to deal with it solo, that says it's complicated for the sake of complication. Given that it's for measuring open air gaps, just delete the dove tail track. Slide blocks in through gaps, with some sort of pin joining the assembly, would cut TWO T-Shirts out of this project. As-is, it's a no for me. I'll grab a ruler.

Or maybe a 3rd layer for a proper sandwich design?

There are much simpler designs. And I'll be showing one of those in the next few weeks. This one is just a very interesting design to play with. And often the experience of learning something that's a little bit difficult is very good experience to have.
