Slide Rule 101- Theory | C D Scale

Ғылым және технология

This is a completely redone video on the basic scales of the slide rule. We are covering the C/D Scales and the basic theory behind the slide rule. In future videos we'll cover the other scales and how they are used to solve a variety of common problems.
See the episode on radiometric dating on this channel for an example of a slide rule in use.

This is excellent. I am learning the slide rule now. These videos are extremely helpful and i can understand the numbers much better.

Judy, there is no need to do this one step at a time, you can combine them. I just broke it up to make it as clear as possible.

If my slide rule could only talk. Originally owned by my father, whom never talked much about his life, professional or personal. As such, the rule provided some calalyst for my researching post-mortum. The rule is housed in it's original M.I.T. leather sheath circa mid-1940's. Attached to the sheath is a small Warning: High Voltage placard, heavily worn on one end. His formal education being split in two, partly financial- partly WW2. GI bill providing funding for school and, well, apparently passing the Eddy Test. Off to Electronics Training Program before returning to aeronautical engineering degree post war. From there to 4+ years at Alcoa, then off to a quiet, western NY aircraft company, doing a bit more than aircraft. Would the VP of Development (Dornberger) hire a young aluminum structural engineer ? This isn't rocket science, is it? Lol. Those efforts are hidden in front of everyone. While Von Braun got things to space, Dornberger's crew created navigating in space. Two completely different things. From there, he went to navy's model basin. Smart folks and slide rules. Seems he was always working inside some armed guarded buildings going back to ETP school. Mumms the word. Thanks for the lessons. My first "slide rule" was made by him: 2 peices of paper with makeshift C& D scales along the flat edges for teaching a 2nd grader multiplication tables.

Well I find after doing hours of calculations with one, you start to hear voices, which I assume is the slide rule telling me to put it down and take a break.
