Slicing an Arrow in Half Mid-Air in Slow Motion - The Slow Mo Guys

Can Dan slice an arrow in half mid air and deflect it away from the target? Can Gav shoot the arrow at Dan without accidentally impaling him? Will they film it in Slow Mo? Definitely yes on that last question. Broken Monitor 2nd channel video - • Accidentally breaking ...

For those confused - the regular camera is filming at 50fps and edited in a 50fps timeline. The phantom is filming at 1000fps placed in the timeline at a playback speed of 25fps so each frame is doubled in the 50fps timeline. This means that all normal footage is much smoother looking and all the phantom footage is still played as slow as possible at 25fps. Why 50 instead of 60? 25 doesn’t fit into 60 very easily. Why 25 instead of 30? It means our phantom footage doesn’t get sped up. -Gav

By shooting that same arrow in a shorter length, you effectively increased the arrow spine, making it stiffer. If you have any shots from above or behind, you can probably see the tail end whipping further to the right than the normal length arrows. This would have been what made the arrow go further to the left than the point of impact that you got used to. You guys should really consider doing some experiments on the Archer’s Paradox. It would be pretty brilliant with your equipment. Sorry about the small HD, but I think it’s loss was worth this amazing video. Brilliant job!

I love slow-mo because it shows us the world we live in. One of my favorite videos was them filming the speed of light. The numbers were incredible. It would take thousands of years to watch some of that footage. I say this on this video because Dan's reaction is a myriad of things that are as close to instant as possible. His eyes focusing takes so many electrical connections , then that being sent to the brain to process what is happening, then that judging the timing necessary to make contact with the arrow, then that being sent to his arms/hands to swing to hit the arrow. And all of that comes together and he does it! All the while our nervous system is sending electrical signals for our heart to beat, to sweat, to digest food, to make urine, to make goosebumps, to grow hair and nails, to smell, to hear, etc.

It doesn't look like THE most powerful bow, but then again most people can't fire those- the speed of an arrow tops out somewhere around 200 miles per hour. Baseball players are able to hit a much shorter target travelling around 100 miles per hour, which might be closer to the speeds we're talking about here. It's probably a much less improbable task than it seems, still pretty impressive though Dan!

It's a lot of fun to watch regular guys do this stuff. Successfully chopping arrows in flight over, and over with ease. I'm sure you had plenty of comments about technique, and bow, and arrow setup for slow flight, but those guys missing the beauty as well as the point. You never missed. Perfect. And, of course, the slow motion footage is fantastic.

havent seen any comments about his archery form or technique or literally anything you said, so technically you are the only one who has said anything about it. guess you are missing beauty and the point.
