Sliced by a Spiny Lobster!
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
On this adventure, Coyote, Christina, Mario and Trent are on-location in the Florida Keys free diving for spiny lobsters! But, a smack of moon jellyfish make for some treacherous diving conditions. Nobody likes a jellyfish sting to the face, or getting sliced up by spiny lobsters!
Always follow local regulations for the harvesting of spiny lobsters.

Oh il love your vids
A to pay respect for this man who has been doing this only for content
I worked buying maine lobster from boats. Picking crates with no gloves was my preferred method, with that being said, getting horned sucks(chances of being hit with claws is low because they’re banded, but doesn’t feel good lol) but the absolute worst is when they freshly shed their shell and you pick them up and they close their tail on your fingers(in water they swim backwards away from predators using their tail It’s like being cut by razors and the amount of itch and possible swelling sucks so bad If you can’t clean it and yes they swim, I also pounded them and have seen 2-4 lb lobsters swim up 20-30 feet to the surface of the pound despite what people say. Have also seen 28 lb lobsters that got sent in from Canada. Held its claws over my shoulders and the tail came past my knees, they aren’t legal to catch here as we have an oversized/undersized measure here in the US but it was incredible to see a hundred year old or more lobster. Sad that they usually die if not sold or eaten. Larger lobsters 4lb+ tend to die quicker in holding tanks from what I noticed, I can only assume because of the lack of pressure on their bodies once pulled from the depths, also I wonder if fish and crustaceans can get the bends like we do as these huge lobsters are found in 100 fathom(approx 6 feet per fathom/arms length) or deeper.
Christina was a godsend ❤
Jellyfish are my favorite animal, so even though it was unfortunate that they got in the way of their mission, I was thrilled.

I'm surprised you guys are getting stung, are the moon jellies different where you are? We have tons of Aurelia aurita here in the Baltic Sea (I'm from Sweden) during summer and I've never felt myself get stung by them, can touch them without feeling a thing. Or is it that some people are more sensitive to the sting than others?

I literally just came from the jellyfish challenge video where you said moon jellies didn't sting, but in this video you're screaming out in pain? I'm so confused
@darwin-evolution3948
Жыл бұрын
I looked it up, coz I was also confused by some sources saying they don't sting and others saying that they do. Here's an interesting paragraph I found from an article by Anna Klompen talking about the sting of moon jellies of the genus Aurelia: But as you can imagine, these animals would not have become so common in aquaria or labs if they were truly dangerous. In fact, I could only find two reports of these jellies causing major health issues. One is a case report in 1988 by Burnett et al of a 30-year old marine biologist experiencing local skin irrational and pain for over a week after being stung by “an unusually large” A. aurita. The second case is also a sting by a “quite large” A. aurita on a 25 year old man diving in Florida, which cleared up 8 days after treatment with medication (Simmons et al 2014). While generally considered harmless, there have been incidences of massive jellyfish blooms around the globe that have caused health problems simply out of shear numbers, including reports from stings in the Caribbean, Spain and Israel (Mariottini and Pane 2010). Just this year over 2,000 people were reportedly stung by Moon jellies in Florida, though there were no major injuries. Even though a single sting from one individual is relatively weak, a larger group of jellies (called a bloom or a smack), could pack a more powerful toxin punch. Most of the time these animals only cause mild itchiness, but moon jellyfish stings appear to be highly variable, and we have no idea why that variability occurs.
Hi im a very big fan, i watch your vids 7 years ago until now and im glad your still alive right now i dont want you getting too much hurt but nice and great content
I always look forward to lobstering when we go we typically take a big boat down and mothership. Then we have a tender to get around, and we average over 100 lobster per trip. It’s probably my favorite thing to do. And yes it is challenging👊🤙🏼
