Shin's greatest skill is his ability to put the spectator at ease. He's so relaxed, so soft-spoken, that they let their guard down and get caught up in the trick.

This is how close up sleight-of-hand card magic should be performed. You shuffle the deck, select a card, put it back, I find it in an interesting way. Short, sweet, simple idea, mind-boggling. none of this... deal three piles choose one pile give me the remainder cards choose another... mathematical Voodoo. Shin is top notch

When you try to be so professional that you keep your eye on the camera every second but then mess up your whole interview because of that.

these guys are so good, they actually know where the deck is cut - shuffled, and cut again. that's not magic; it's skill. some kinda photo memory.

Definitely tapered, saw the flip of the deck but I missed where you pulled it and put it back or when you looked at it.

I got this figured out. The reason why he had to ask her to push it back in is because when she did it at first her hand was covering the top of the card so Shin couldn't see. The deck is special kind where there are subtle differences on the card cover face which tell you which card is which. He got a good look at it when she push it in back in the deck.

@@robwilson92 Google marked butterfly cards and you'll find the answer. At 2:20, he rotates the deck in his hands and is thus able to locate her card because the hidden markings, which also give away what card it is, are on one side only.

Dont know who cassidy woman is but shin lim is a legend. Love him 🔥💯

Look at him when he is talking and doing his performance. Oh My God! If you're in love with the camera, just do an interview with yourself.

I agree.....This overly casual , even sloppy interviewing technique seems to be the Par for the course now-days. Another trend I have noticed is that no longer does an individual even have to be literate ,or speak well to get into media work. All you need is an annoying overabundance of personality, and be handsome or pretty.

if you watch on mute, you can see only how his hands move and not get distracted and you can see how he did it. Very clever and smooth.

It's a shaved deck and they are marked did you see him turn the deck and notice when she places the card in he looks at to identify the marked card

I had no idea Shin was on the Cassidy show. Now the show is defunct. I don't think it's on hiatus. Cassidy did say late last year in 2020 that she was leaving to pursue her Internet endeavors, not to mention the effects of the pandemic, which is why I haven't even seen her on TV news either. But glad that this meeting was able to happen right before the sh*t hit the fan a month later.

Dear friend, I can totally understand why you changed the trick as it went and decided to end it up the quicker way. When the spectator pays more attention to the camera than you, would piss me off too. Nevertheless you are my hero, and the best thing I like about you is that you remain humble. Top man!

I've watched several of his individual tricks and routines. This is the ONLY one I have even figured out PART of, and I still don't have a complete or half picture. I'd pay to see him perform and I can't say that about most performers.

ok so a friend of mine used to guess all the cards i used to pick out. told me after that the back of the card has a pattern, which you can tell which card it is. at 2:25, she puts the card in and shin had no idea because she was quick...so he pops it back out again so he can study the pattern. happens quick but you will notice it.

the only way to my mind is that the choosen card is marked with Shin Lim finger when she put the card back in the deck and he has contact lens so that he can see through

I do not know how he did the trick, but if I was to guess, I'd say all of the cards were marked on the back so that it is easy to know any card at a glance.

Before he gave her the deck, he had already used sleight of hand to put the chosen card into his right hand. He gives the deck using his left. Hence, it doesn't matter how much she shuffles it. When the deck is given back, he simply puts the card he already had in his hand (4 of hearts), to the top. While she's shuffling, he can also take a peek to see what card it is which is how he knew even without revealing. I use this trick often, but it only works if the insertion of the card back to the deck isn't perfect.

@@flyingchimp12 in the context of this type of interview, the interviewer is supposed to stare back at the camera repeatedly. This back and forth keeps the home viewers (or live audience) engaged. You see it on virtually every interview for late night shows (Colbert, Fallon) and morning shows (Good Morning America, CBS This Morning).

@@att.6134 Using a fold, crease or bend on the side of the card. On 2:27 Shin's index stopped her from putting the card all the way. Then he pushed the card outwards and to the side. His thumb also moved to the side at the same time.
