    Actualol Little baggies. Specifically, how to buy them regularly from your local shop without the staff thinking you're a drug dealer. Also, condiment cups with lids so your tokens go from stored to set up in a heartbeat. And of course, dice trays, for the people who otherwise have an 8ft dice rolling blast radius. Looking forward to the series.

    Fantastic video! Even as someone who has sleeved for 5 years, I learned something new from this video. Specifically, I hadn't heard about Paladin before. I'll have to check them out. The comparison of the different sleeve manufacturers was very good. I've always been a fan of FFG's sleeves, but I've dabbled in various others as needed. That BGG GeekList is a gem, and I refer people to it frequently.

    Well, that's it - you've finally made me order very-oddly-sized sleeves for Tash Kalar. I usually sleeve cards where sleeves are readily available, but not where they aren't. But, I've played Tash Kalar with people who are less OCD than me before, and the cards do shuffle slightly less easily than they used to. It's horrifying!

    Great video. All the reasons for sleeving are valid, but it reminds me of when my gran used to buy a nice plush sofa and then cover it with horrible clear plastic sheets to protect it. I adore the feel of worn cards. The cards in my favourite games have that ‘well loved’ feel, caused by just how much I’ve played them, which makes them more personal to me. Kind of like a cosy, well loved sofa. Last year, my family and some friends holidayed in Lisbon together and played Diamonds to the early hours every night whilst drinking cocktails. One night, a friend accidentally knocked a mojito all over the cards. They dried out fine, but even now they still smell faintly of mojito, which just takes me back to warm nights in Lisbon, cocktails and great times playing cards with family and friends. In case you hadn’t guessed, I’m a non-sleever.

    I like the idea of what you're selling, but I don't think I can be that person in practice. Memories and well worn games sound quaint in theory but I can't get over that I like things to be well kept. It's probably something that extends far beyond board games.

    I love the idea of well worn cards too, but in theory only, because I can't bear stress of holding myself back from telling my friends to wash their hands, to not bend the cards, not press it up to their faces... I would much rather sleeve my cards and let my friends have a good and relaxed time, and me along with them ^^

    Thanks Jon for the video! I started playing Gloomhaven and I was finding the quality of the cards very poor when you put this video on youtube. I said to myself: What a great idea, I should sleeve my cards! Then, because there is a million of cards in Gloomhaven, I was wondering if I should use premium or normal sleeves. I started with normal sleeve for a small number of cards just to see and, OMG, you're so right, they are horrible. I when with premium instead. It's so much better! Thanks again!

    I instantly sleeve all deduction games. "Hmm, I wonder who voted against this mission? Well, clearly it was Tom whose 'no' vote card has a pizza stain?" Once a card is marked in a deduction game, it can be hard to ignore. One Night Ultimate Werewolf has tiles that many gamers claim are easily marked. When the publisher made custom sleeves for the cards, they were monstrously expensive.

    100% right .... once you become a sleever, it becomes an addiction .... and spot on when he says, buy premium sleeves !!! .... thin or penny sleeves are a waste of money, they wrinkle ... the only thin sleeves i can recommend are inner sleeves by kmc or ultimate guard because of their snug and precise fit

    Nice video! Agreed on all accounts. My go-to sleeves have become Paladin (for larger games) and KMC Hyper MAT (for LCGs like Arkham Horror or AGoT). KMC are really the nicest sleeves around, but they're also considerably more expensive than most other brands.

    It's great that you tackled this topic! I agree on not settling on a single manufacturer for sleeving needs in board games. Each of them has their quirks. FFG Yellow/Red/Green are defaults for any game that uses those sizes. I prefer Swan (thick only) for the different variations of the Standard European size and Dixit size cards. You may want to reconsider Ultra Pro since most of their new product has the logo considerably toned down. It's still there but it has a faded look to it now. I use UP for 7 Wonders, tarot, and standard card size. I have touched Arcane Tinmen and Paladin sleeves. Their shuffle feel is nice and smooth but has limited availability in where I reside. What are your thoughts on using sleeves with colored/opaque backs? I use them if they are of Standard size and if the card back conveys no information and/or looks dull. I use Ultra Pro Eclipse or Dragon Shield matte/original for those type of cards.

  • @actualol

    @actualol

    Good that the hologram is less invasive now. I've never really used coloured backs but I don't have loads of games with standard card size. I did think they look quite cool for people who play Netrunner.

    Hey all. A hint for using the BGG sleeve geeklist. An easier way to navigate to an entry is to look up the game itself on BGG. Then select the download labelled "Move". From there select "Geeklists" and then sort by "Hot". The sleeving geeklist should be right near the top and clicking on it will take you right to games entry on that list. Given the list is so large I've found this method easier than locating it on the geeklist itself.

    I use penny sleeves for most of my games. If I play them more I will upgrade my card sleeve quality. My friends complain about the sharp edges of some sleeves. I know how to shuffle the cards as to not bend them. Most of the time I still stack shuffle from back in my Magic days, when sleeves were not really a thing for games. Sleeve really will prolong the life of the card and game for that matter. Getting the size is a tricky thing. My LGS has a sleeve scale to see what size is needed. I still have not sleeved a few games like Dixit or Munchkin. I do sleeve my Dice Masters cards, even thou I don't shuffle them, I do like to keep them from scratches. Nice video.

    Some great links, but any chance you could add a couple for where you get your sleeves from too, for those of us relatively new to the hobby who don't know the go-to places? Excellent video anyway, subbed.

  • @DarthEd77
    @DarthEd776 жыл бұрын

    I don't sleeve every game either. It really depends on how much shuffling you need to do and how big the deck is. Terraforming Mars' deck is so big that I sleeved it immediately because shuffling a deck that big is so much easier when sleeved. I will sleeve every deck-building game I play though. If you don't, the starting cards will end up more worn than the other cards after even a dozen plays because of the constant shuffling.

  • @michaelgrayer7351

    @michaelgrayer7351

    +1 for that. Their sleeves come in two varieties - the normal ones and the "matte non-glare" ones. Their normal ones are about the same quality as Fantasy Flight's but you get 100 in a pack for ~£3 so are usually better value. The Matte ones are something special. They're not cheap but they're ridiculously high quality, aren't shiny and slippery, and come in a handy card box which is incredibly useful. I usually get mine from Chaos Cards although I'm sure you can find them elsewhere as well. And yes they are the company behind "Dragon Shield" as well which are really good for Magic/Netrunner-style cards but confusingly their "Clear-Matte" variety is only matte on one side and even then it's a sort of frosted plastic that isn't as good as the Matte No-Glare range. And breathe.

    LATCG Sleeves (clear) are slightly thicker than penny sleeves. You can get 1800 on Amazon for around $25ish in the US fitting Magic the Gathering size cards. These sleeves are great if you have a ton of games. You can visit their website to get 10,000 sleeves for $90. I have never ordered from their website it looks kind of shady. LATCG definitely isn't my favorite sleeve, but they are my go to for quantity, price, and good enough quality.
