    After several sleepless nights aboard our Balboa in a choppy bay, I got home and priced 'rocker stoppers', I almost dropped my cold beer at the prices. So I sewed up two canvas 'funnels', about 18" wide by 18" deep, tied a 'three hole brick' to the bottom and added a four strand bridle to the top, I glued and whipped four ten inch lengths of curved rubber hose between each bridle line to help it stay open and dropped each one amidship to about six feet. They would open on rise and collapse on drop, they made a big difference on my 26 foot craft, and I suppose you could scale them up for larger boats, or even go for four units. Big benefit was their ability to fold flat for stowage...

    Adam's Mr. Mellow take it all in stride and crack a few jokes along the way. Khiara is this sparky goddess that doesn't ruffle his feathers even in a tizzy so the best way to handle the situation is have a laugh at the challenges. Some kind of perfect balance at play here. No matter what Milly may require of them she's so loved she gets by with it no prob. Put all this in Nature's embrace and it all just amounts to a lot of salty love. Highest Blessings

    Did you ever learn how to do a "swell bridle"? If so, has it made the rough anchorages any better? If not, you should look into an "anchor riding sail." Sailrite sells a sew it yourself kit so you can make your own anchor riding sail. I've also hear that the "FinDelta Anchoring Sail" is pretty awesome. You should look into one if you are still having rough anchorages. BTW - I love your videos! You guys are living out my dream! If I could only get my wife onboard!

    As you have said nothing about replacing the anchor winch, what would you like? Assuming what you have freewheels, have you considered making up a long rope loop to go over the capstan side to save your hands from the chain? Also, FWIW, picking up a smattering of the local languages makes the experience much more interesting IMHO.

    You can get a pretty effective antiroll setup with a good sized drogue or sea anchor. Pole it out from the mast on a halyard and weight it so it sits vertically. Check out Seabrake's website for a better explanation. We picked one up as emergency steering for NZ offshore certification, but use it often for a good nights sleep!

    I've noticed you have a ships clock and barometer. I've never heard any bells announcing the time nor have I heard you figure the weather by reading your barometer. Both are great to have on a boat I think and a lesson on how to use them would be great.

  • @SailingMillennialFalcon

    @SailingMillennialFalcon

    5 жыл бұрын

    We don’t have bells on the clock (thankfully as that might bug me.. I’m the kind of person who hears a clock tick from 3 rooms away and have to stuff something around it to block the noise!) The barometer is actually broken, it worked when we bought the boat but the face fell off and after that it just stays at 1010. We’ve attempted to fix it a few times but to no avail, a new one is on the list of things to buy... in the meantime, in true millennial fashion, we have a barometer app on our phone 😂 yes, even I’m embarrassed to admit that.

  • @trongod2000

    @@SailingMillennialFalcon After 22 years in the Navy, I got to where I could near the bells all night and know when my watch came up. Like if I had midshift )12 I had to be near my station by 11:30 so hearing 6 bells meant time to get up. Not sure how the brain figured out I hadn't heard the first 4 rings but it got to the point where my internal clock knew somehow. To bad about the barometer. I'm guessing it also has a thermometer in it that still works. Those things are a common sight in thrift stores. You don't want to pay premium prices like the tourist so all you can do is wait for one to cross your path like your doing. I didn't know phones had pressure sensors in them. I knew they had direction but thought they got temp and pressure from the internet.
