The sequel to the PlayStation's first snowmobile racing game, Sled Storm combines the ability to perform aerial tricks with arcade-style racing down a series of seven snow- and ice-covered courses. As in previous games in the EA Sports Big lineup, performing tricks earns players points used to unlock characters and acquire speed boosts. The eight male and female characters have varying trick abilities and they each have distinct snowmobiles, or "sleds," individually rated in acceleration, top speed, handling, and stability. New sleds for each character can be earned by placing first on the majority of courses.
Modes of play include Single Race on any of the unlocked courses, Multi-Player for a split-screen challenge against a friend, Time Trial, Practice, Championship, and Rival Challenge. Championship is the primary mode in which players unlock courses, characters, and up to five classes of sleds. Each course is raced against five computer opponents in a series of three laps. Players need to finish in a specific position to advance to the next track or achieve a certain point total to unlock one of the characters (only three of which are initially playable). Once a character completes the Championship, the Rival Challenge mode is revealed.
Rival Challenge allows players an opportunity to win another character's sled by racing for it. If victorious in the one-on-one race, the player can add another sled type to a character's roster. If players should lose the race, they forfeit one of their character's sleds offered as collateral. To win back a lost sled, players need to complete the same objective in the Championship mode. The computer randomly selects the course to ensure an even match for each Rival Challenge. Players can toggle the number of opponents and laps for non-Championship races, and unlocked courses, sleds, and characters can all be saved to memory card.

I never got to beat this game because it would freeze at the clown track all the time but man I still remember all of TJs voice lines because that was my favorite character. What makes this so nostalgic is that I didn’t even speak English back then, so everything sounded like gibberish but as soon as I heard them again now that I’m 23, fluent in English, shit just hit different. Good times.

Me and my dad used to play the hell put of this game. Witnessing him beat championship mode with tracy was mind blowing as a kid. Even trying my hardest afterwards to do it myself. I hope for a remake of both ps1 and ps2 sled storms, because both were great in there own right. I'd so play this one again, even as a let's play, given the chance.

Graphics look a bit nicer here but the soundtrack and everything else is a downgrade I'd say.

I have played Sled Storm for PlayStation. EA BIG took it to the next level and beyond with this release. The tracks are challenging but I'd have to say this is a great hidden gem for the PS2 library. If you can find component cables for your PS2 trust me it looks pretty darn good on a DLP TV. Almost has that arcade feel and look to it.

The difference between this and Sled Storm on the first Playstation is just crazy, especially considering how early this game came in the PS2 life cycle.

Ps1 the good ol days gray cord controllers and Rob zombie music sled storm was my very first game and I have to say for nostalgic reasons I played it recently and it brought back so many good memories this game is one of the classics and still a very good one

@Solid Snake i had ski-doo snowmobile challenge on both the 360 and wii, it’s not as good as the two sled storm games
Sled Storm for PS1 was amazing and I still really want a new one similar to that game. This is just over the top "EXTREME!" garbage, they filled it with random crap you might find in a cart racing game. The sleds just don't feel right, nothing like the original. The inclusion of different classes of vehicle might have been nice if it was done properly, like the snowbikes racing against other snowbikes, with different control feeling.

i like barely remember having this as a kid, like i cant tell if im remembering ssx, this or both
Loved this game at the time. Still have my CD. Actually, I just ripped the soundtrack from it again. Thought I had it stored away. That was one of the features I loved about the game was the killer soundtrack with Rob Zombie's awesome "Dragula", three songs by Econoline Crush. a tune by EZRollers, two Dom & Rolland tracks, an Uberzone song and two Jeff Dyck songs. Is that the sound of the sleds in the video or is the sound just screwed up?

This game is awesome! maybe EA can reboot the series develop two games, one that follows the original ps1 sled storm roots and another that follows the SSX style format of the ps2 version, that would be radical!

While this game might've made a good standalone game I personally don't think it's a worthy sequel to the PS1 Sled Storm. I don't know why but the PS1 Sled Storm just had a completely different form of attraction to it which this game didn't have, at least not to me. Oh and also rabbit.

It's actually pretty easy once you get the hang of it. This sled is just out of control and sucks. Especially on this track.
