Sled Pull and Awards Ceremony - Diesel Power Challenge 2017
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
On the final day of Diesel Power Challenge 2017 Presented by XDP, each of our 10 competitors hooked their truck to the pulling sled, and attempted to drag it as far as possible across a track created at Bandimere Speedway. After the final pull, we wrapped-up the weeklong competition with a banquet, where specialty awards were presented, podium finishers named, and, for the second-straight year, Charlie Keeter accepted the First Place trophy for being the overall Diesel Power Challenge champion.
Starting October 9th, 2017, 2017, host Brian Lohnes takes you through our weeklong torture test that features 6 competitive events, 10 trucks, and 23,172.2 combined horsepower and torque at the rear wheels. We push Cummins-, Duramax-, and Power Stroke-powered trucks well beyond their limits in this search for the ultimate street-legal diesel truck and driver.

There's no way it was a 20 minute drive. Let's pretend it was, and if you go 30mph average for 20min that's 10 miles. So if Charlie Keeter burned 0.21 gallons in 10 miles his MPG would be nearly 50, which is of course bullshit. The truth is, this is garbage data on both ends.

I got the chance to meet Keeter in VA while he was towing his truck to the strip. Great guy that knows his truck. Well deserved 2x champ! Unfortunately you can only win twice before you aren't welcome back anymore.

Would like to see that happen too. Lavon's truck was so well rounded and awesome. And it was by far the most economical truck as well, when they actually had to drive them on the roads rather than simulate the stuff. And I don't think he used NO2 in the competitions either. Charlie has a nice truck but I would still rather have a clone of Lavon's.

Why is ben carson reporting this event?
Alright now it’s time to bring back some of the former winners and put them head to head. I want to see that. I like the competition but I want to see the best of the best duke it out a mile high.
The Humming bird @ 10:50 was the best part of all
Ahh, another year with the 6.oh dominating the competition. Congratulations Keeter-
Anyone else notice how on Charlie Keeter's run the weight box doesn't seem to be all the way forward like it is for every other puller?
You see powerstrokes are powerful. But people say that powerstrokes are trash but they are made for heavy weight. Powerstrokes are good trucks what so ever. I don’t care about what all the haters say.
Really hope McCoy Black comes back with that truck next year! really wanted to see more from it.
Charlie ketter’s truck doesn’t sound like a normal 6 liter because the VGT was taken out of the engine. That answers all the questions about that.
I saw a couple Wisco guys in there and maybe 1 from Minnesota! Way to represent boys!

I used to watch this sled pull at the monster truck shows but they would use fixed/ tuned up FARM TRACTORS to pull the sled & they were even LOUDER than the massive monster trucks🚜🚜🚜
May not have been a fan of the looks of the trucks, but this was still pretty entertaining.

1st: FORD 2nd: FORD 3rd: FORD Enough said
Even our amateur stock class truck pulls around here are required to wear a fire suit, a helmet and seat belts. A 4-way racing harness and diff scatter shields are required for all classes above stock. And no kill switch! Lucky they didn't have a serious catastrophe. Using stock shifters is not easy. Better off getting some heavy duty clutches, and leaving it 3rd gear for the entire run. Tool easy to loose momentum. Most of us use a manual trans with multiple clutches and geared the truck perfectly for RPM and wheel speed. Lots of trial and errors to get it just right. Tires and weight distribution makes a huge difference. They took the weight of each truck and from there, they should have picked a weight class like 8000 lbs. Allowed everyone to add weight up to the max 8000 lbs. It makes it a more level playing field by taking the weight out of the equation. It's more about tires, weight distribution, horse power and driving ability.
Everyone hates in the 6.blow but in the end it will beat you and then tow you back home

I always thought you held the gear you were in once you got going vs shifting that said the only time I have hooked was a gasser with a 4 speed so maybe its different for diesels.
@truracer20
6 жыл бұрын
Depends on the number of gears in an automatic, the more gears you have the less drop off you have between gears. Nitrous helps. Notice the overall winner shifted just before hitting the nitrous? Nitrous gives the same over all effect as boost so when he lost rpm and boost on the shift he put the nitrous to it which helped make up for the loss of boost. I'm also sure the guys have the smarts to boost reference their nitrous hit as well, more nitrous under low boost less under full boost.
@kainhall
6 жыл бұрын
ya.....you might be able to shift early.....but when that weight starts moving forward, you want to be in A! gear at high RPM on a th350/400/700r4....id pick 2nd and ya dont want to downshift either.....might end up breaking something...... but any time you take away power from the wheels....even for a split second, when the weight is forward.....you are going to loose so much momentum so much that down/up shifting, even if you dont "bog down" or break something.....it just isnt worth it.... ya cant gain that momentum back

me I'm guessing they only went 30-40 mph. At that speed after 20 mins, would be about 55 mpg. I'd say that's possible with these modded diesels that probably have an economy (or super lean) tune among others on their controllers.
@blacktrucksfly
6 жыл бұрын
the zero wind resistance and extremely low friction of driving on rollers will inflate those numbers quite a bit.
@sugonmaballs
6 жыл бұрын
blacktrucksfly They supposedly simulated hills with resistance on the rollers. But yeah, who knows how much resistance there really is on it. I'd say the lack of wind resistance is a considerable factor as well, as DOA pointed out above.
