Paul absolutely proved himself with the opening song (Killing Fields) of his debut on Divine Intervention!

Forbidden evil and Twisted into Form proved how amazing Paul was as a drummer.
Paul was a diehard Slayer fan when he joined,so for him its like a dream come true to drum in his favorite band. With all this respect he plays with all his hearth in the band and thats ALL any band can ask for!
his playing in divine was so good. decades later the album amd his playing on it still excites me.
One evening in 1994 my friend came to my apartment with Divine Intervention which just got out and, being a die-hard Lombardo fan, I was blown away. We played the cd for hours until the neighbor from two below came knocking on my door because he couldn't sleep lol. Lombardo and Bostaph both are gods.

Sabianfan dude, I remember when DI has released and I'm just like you, a die hard Lombardo fan, but instead of your atitude, I hated The álbum for non reason, just hate, months later I decided to listen again and, damned, its a masterpiece, amazing album, then became my favorite with Paul on drums, I also love DIM !!! Slayer rules !!!

Yup! Fully agree. My 3 neighbors are huge Slayers fans too, they just havent realised it yet , but I'm helping them !
I remember the day Divine Intervention came out, I took the day off school to go buy it, brought it home, smoked something and cranked it on a large system. The intro drums to killing fields sold me straight away on Bostaph.

@@AggressiveTendencies no bostaph sucks dave lombardo kicks his ass all day everyday anyday
i know exactly what he's referring to. dave lombardo is why i got into drums and i was nervous as hell to hear a new drummer. but the opening to the divine album put me at ease....this guy was a great fit
It's nice to see someone who can feel good about himself without dogging on somebody else - even his predecessor. That's strong, imo. Huge fan of both amazing drummers - and that's saying something, because drums are especially highlighted in Slayer's music.

THE best choice for Daves replacement for WHATEVER REASON. Pauls a VERY humble guy and a GREAT drummer. Very very underrated drummer and one of the best, one of my personal favorites, metal drummers of all time. PAUL RULES SLAYTANIC FOREVER
Paul Bostaph and Dave Lombardo are both legends. Great interview with a great bloke \m/
Paul is a BEAST!
Paul did all right, I was nervous when Divine came out, but was blown away by Pauls style, I see the band as having two paths, two flavors, both world class!

Paul's thoughts on Nicko McBrain playing on Where Eagles Dare is exactly how I felt when hearing him play on Killing Fields off of Divine Intervention.

Divine intervention is my favorite slayer album but Paul seemed to really be able to nail lamabrdos songs live he was still good tho
I like Paul Bostaph. He made me continue liking Slayer even after DL left. Such a great choice for replacement. I was very skeptic because in my books, SITA is the best Slayer album and on the Monsters of Rock, PB was the one to play drums and I was very impressed he held through with flying colors.
I like how he respects the sound and that's exactly what you want when you have a new band member in the band. Respecting the sound is respecting the band and the fan.
i always thought that slayer always manage to have great drummer, both Lombardo and Bostaph are amazing drummers
Much respect man! Stepping in for a legend like Dave with everybody doubting you and owning that shit like a boss. You're forever a part of this band in my eyes man

Simple Guy Lombardo show to the mortals that he is a fucking god in that song
Paul is good guy. I prefer Lombardo's style and creativity, but I have to say, Paul is tighter live, and God Hates Us All is my favorite album, tied with Reign In Blood, and Bostaph plays on it. I don't feel like it took away anything from the quality of the songs.
Bostaph and Lombardi, two great drummers each has his own groove
divine intervention is one of the best albums I've ever heard it's hammering from beginning to end
Very insightful, humble and respectable interview.
I was sold when I heard the intro to killing fields. Proof accepted. And then that long tom roll at the beginning of 213 blew me away.
Paul is a beast real slayer fans like him
I appreciate that he gives proper respect to Dave. Props to Paul.
Divine Intervention was the first Slayer album I ever listened to with Killing Fields being the first song I listened to, and when I heard that drum intro I was blown away as I had never heard anything like that before. So basically what I am saying is the first time I heard Slayer, or the first material I heard from Slayer was with Paul Bostaph. The Dave Lombardo stuff came after that.
love you Paul...i love the music you give us! Thank you for everything ! it's my strain now
I can't hate on such a cool guy. I was a doubter when Dave left as well. I even felt like Paul overplayed a little when he came in. But what a cool dude. 2 thumbs up man keep it heavy.
One of two great Slayer drummers. Much respect \m/
He looks exactly like a slayer kind of dude. Go Bostaph!
Some of the fills on God Hates Us All are frickin unreal.
I love how Paul said he likes how Nicko made a good first impression with When Eagles Dare. Paul did that with Killing Fields \m/

Tucson, Aug 12, 1994 at the tiny Buena Vista Theater. Probably less than 500 people. I believe my buddy won the tix on a radio show in Phoenix and it was advertised as a show using their new drummer. Phenominal Drummer ! \m/😈 .very cool dude too. Down home brother👊
Metal bands have the most intelligent musicians. This dude is a bad ass drummer to boot...
Best Slayer drummer for me. I first heard Slayer on a mix tape my friends brother made around 93-94. It had Seasons of the Abyss and Dead Skin Mask on it (still some of my favourites) Slayer then released Devine Intervention. That drum roll at the beginning of Killing Fields blew me away and I knew they were in good hands with Bostaph. I saw them at the time in Leeds with a young up and coming band called Machine Head. That album was the soundtrack to my early years at high school. I even stole the lyrics from Devine Intervention and made them into a poem about school for an English lesson 😂 My teacher liked that much it was put in the wall haha They didn’t know it was Slayer 👍🏻👍🏻

Well Paul, to be honest I like Dave better as a drummer, but Divine Intervention is my second favorite Slayer album and only second to Seasons and a big part of why I like it is the drumming.
love the Maiden reference to Nicko and Clive

Slayer made the right choice with Paul. Undisputed attitude is probably my most favorite
Pauls contribution to divine intervention was really cool. abstract and even progressive. I was sad slayer didn't do more of that stuff in odd time signatures.
Always be the best drummer for me.
great album! and drums!
He said at the end of the interview that his favourite song is "Behind the crooked cross"
Pauls fav slayer songs are also mine ! 2 under rated songs... I was hoping he'd mention one but both is a result !
Mission accomplished!
Paul Ghost of War my favorite song in SOH aka South Of Heaven and love Silent Scream as well
Divine Intervention is my favorite Slayer album!
I would like to see paul playing behind the crocked cross one of my favourite slayer’s song too
Paul is classy lad and great drummer.
Just two completely diffrrent styles, two great drummers!!
Paul acts like a true professional.
That's a real drummers forearm right there.
Divine Intervention is one of my favorite Slayer albums. Don’t let anyone give you any shit Paul, Dave is awesome but so are you.
Behind the crooked cross has the most fills of any slayer track, its basically a Dave Lombardo drum solo
@azrihazim6800
5 жыл бұрын
To me..live.undead is the.drum solo song..
Paul seems to be a down to earth guy. I like him.
Paul is an amazing drummer, but just like Mike Mangini he stepped into a huge band that had a sound whose foundation was a very specific drum sound. I know it must suck for both of them being constantly compared to their predecessors, but that's just the way it goes. Slayer's legacy is built partly on Dave's drumming. They would never have been as good with another drummer.
I love Dave Lombardo and will forever be my biggest influence but that doesn't mean paul isn't good either. His drumming on divine and especially diabolus were my first cracks on trying to get on the technical side of drumming before I went to shit like korn and tool to mastodon.
I want to learn how to play the drums like Paul Bostaph. Yeah!
Just my opinion but divine intervention is underrated and possibly underappreciated... fantastic album!

Killing Fields is a masterpiece. Both Dave and Paul are elite at their craft. There’s none like Slayer.
Kerry is basically the voice for Slayer. Just like Scott Ian is the voice for Anthrax, Dave Mustaine is the voice for Megadeth, and Lars is the voice for Metallica.

who was ever not sure who drummed on undisputed attitude? I think both their styles are very distinct and you can tell right away who's playing. and the hair thing reminds me of mike tyson in 1987, forget the term but he had a similar looking missing patch of hair due mostly to stress
great drummer
Paul is an exceptional drummer and has recorded some of my favorite Slayer songs. These include Sex Murder Art, Circle of Beliefs, SS-3, Bitter Peace, Point, Disciple, and Here Comes The Pain. I'm totally fine with him as Slayer's drummer until the band calls it quits.
