Slay the Princess is a fully voiced visual novel where you have only one job. Slay the princess (duh). This is a video essay summarizing and discussing the game's narrative. I made the video with audio in mind and 99% of it is watchable in an audio format so you can feel guilt free watching and working. Full spoilers for the entire game (I give fair warning a few times in the video)

If you like what you see in this video be sure to like, comment and subscribe (I know lol) but it really does help a ton with letting me know I'm doing something right and getting my videos out to more people. Also, if you click this link it brings you to a page where you can become a member of the channel which only has 1 tier at 5 dollars a month. This gives you early access to any videos I have scheduled ahead of time, a membership badge, and (I think) most notably it will land your name in the supporters scroll at the end of every video. I think the narrator missed something important in his plan to end death, you have the shifting multitudinous part and the part that doesn't change. The long quiet. The quiet isn't the life part. We get to live because we die. It's a fair enough price, all told.

hard agree, even beyond the context of the game has there not been like infinity stories and such that warn of the consequences of things not having an end? the end allows for the time before the end to have value

@@NotAbsolutelySure In fairness if your the last living thing in existance. I can't blame you for reconsidering that position. The lion with wings is not your friend. (Spoilery for certain anime) I guess Covid got us all existential about life and death and everything in between it.

I didn't play the game, but I watched some playthroughs not knowing what I was getting into. I wish I hadn't. It's too late for me to play it myself. If it's not too late for anyone reading this, I implore you to do so.

I like this game because both the Narrator is Correct, but rejecting the Narrator is also correct. As someone who’s had their life flash before their eyes I completely agree with the Narrator, Death is scary especially on a Worldwide, on a Universal scale. To die is simple, for everything to die? I’d fight tooth and nail against. Him lying to us makes sense, if we knew that the princess reflects our thoughts. The Princess might be innocent but to me, the princess as the incarnation of Change and Death is the Root of all Human Suffering. I’ve seen some people talk about how the Narrator wanted a universe forever frozen in time but I think what would of happened would be similar to 17776 by Jon Bois

i think one of the coolest aspects of this game is that, funnily enough, perspective matters SO much to how you view everything coming out the other side. both your own life experiences and the media thats influenced you as well as the perspectives and information you were witness to within the game significantly alter how you view the events of the game and different endings, its fantastic writing

I've been hearing this randomly for a while and it just irritates me every time I hear it. What's wrong with co-dependancy? People are dependent on a lot of things. Depending on other people is fundamental to a healthy lifestyle where you can spend time doing things with people you love rather than just work on a death march. Independence as a universal good is a lie meant weaken our ties to the people around us and isolate, atomize us.

i think you are misinterpreting what i meant by "codependent" being dependent on family and friends and people we love is not a bad thing, thats part of having relationships of every kind codependency in particular is an imbalanced relationship where one half of the relationship has toxic, extremely selfish or behaviors that are enabled by the other half to an unhealthy degree OR where a pair of people are so overwhelmingly dependent on one another that they are incapable of functioning without the other in the context of the video, that particular princess i was talking about is 1000% incapable of having her own opinion or doing anything on her own (she slipped her hand out of the chains but didnt do it until she was told to lol) what i meant by weird codependent kind of way was moreso nodding to the writers very obvious and on the nose (to a funny degree) characterization of that princess. she has no opinion, she doesnt do anything herself and BECAUSE of that, the smitten voice loves her. says a lot about that voice if their attraction is specifically because of how dainty and incapable the princess is, ya know? If I've mischaracterized your view on things I apologize, but I think you took the pop term for "codependency" rather than what i meant, which was an unhealthy kind of codependency. its like people saying "im literally gonna jump off a bridge" where literally has had its meaning bastardized, same deal here (i think)

@@NotAbsolutelySure yeah, I jumped the gun. I've never looked at the damsel as a dependent, just lacking agency, but I suppose in the end it's the same thing. No, you didn't mis-characterize my position. I just hear the word too much in the context I described and dependency is just framed as something to rid humanity of like a plague. On top of all this I've never heard co-dependant used to explain toxic abusive relationships so I couldn't see that possibility.
