@@michaelclarkin2326en had awesome groove and feel (like Evgeny) for a metal drummer. ‘NECROTICISM : DESCANTING THE INSALUBRIOUS’ was ahead of it’s time in terms of drum composition for the genre. However, fr dude, Evgeny’s drumming chops are many levels above and superior across all aspects. Pete Sandoval, Steve Asheim, Sean Reinert, Gene Hoglan (to name just a few) were all technically above Ken at that time. Ken’s real gift was songwriting as opposed to raw drumming ability. Kind of like Joey Jordison in that way. Jay Weinberg is a technically superior drummer, but Joey created unique and timeless drum hooks for every track. That’s what I loved about Ken Owen in his prime. Edit : Along with Pete Sandoval and Steve Asheim, Ken was also one of the drummers responsible for pioneering the blast beat.

try Kai Hahto, one of the most precise drummers there is. playing in Nightwish right now, but his earlier stuff goes beyond hard. he and novikov are my top drummers

He’s truly mastered the art of metal drumming. I actually don’t know how he could get better 😂 we’re not used to such tasteful drumming, and I’m honestly surprised Evgeny hasn’t gotten bored of drums yet since he mastered them so long ago

It’s amazing how immediate his rise to my favorite drummer alive was. I mean like almost instantaneous. I love many drummers, from Neil to the Rev (RIP) to Eloy, (but Fa Q Buddy Rich), for me personally however, my favs will always be heavy metal drummers. So my favorite deceased drummer, J. Jordi. Favorite alive spot is now all Evgeny's. He energy is infectious and his precision is so crisp.
