The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim: an arpg video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios.
The main story is about the player character's quest to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is going to destroy the world. The game takes place in Skyrim, the northernmost province of Tamrie and is set 200 years after the events of Oblivion. Over the course of the game, the player completes quests and develops the character by improving skills. The game is an open-world arpg like its predecessors and allows the player to travel anywhere in the game world at any time, and to ignore or postpone the main storyline.

Only Rockstar still spend stupid money on developing games. Witcher 3 and Skyrim both cost well under $100 million to make though. Great game but with all its bugs and terrible performance at launch its not exactly a special achievement that they managed to make this game.

Hmmmm... Warhorse actually delivered what he promised and MORE with KCD. They promised a "realistic", old style, no hands-holding, no button mashing, hardcore RPG and we got actually more than people thought. They even had an interesting plot, well written characters (Sir Hans made me laugh a lot) and a lot of depth. Sure, the game could spend a few more months in the oven, iron out some technical problems and difficulties, maybe try to improve some mechanics, adding different weapons (polearms sucks in the game, no crossbows) but hey, that's their first game and it was crowd funded - they achieved more than giant studios could hope for. It is not a game for casuals or everybody really - even some hardcore players hated it - but boy I loved it and I want a sequel.

Regarding the beauty of nature in KCD. It's not purely the visuals. It's spooky how much the forests actually SOUND like forests do as well. The in-game music isn't playing all the time. Especially not at night when you're just walking around the countryside. I remember I sometimes just stopped and listened into my headphones and thought "holy crap, the sound makes it feel like i'm actually standing outside my house right now". Kingdom Come really does have the most gorgeous terrain, forests and landscape than any other game I've seen. It's so naturalistic and beautiful. Another point, Skyrim doesn't really have crafting gameplay. It has resource collecting gameplay followed by using a menu to "craft" stuff. That's not crafting, it's a scavenger hunt. Kingdom Come's grindstone mini-game is closer to crafting gameplay that anything in Skyrim. The same for the alchemy brewing mini-game. Compare that to Skyrim, which is all menus and no gameplay.

    @einarblood-axe9328

Well, no, not really. I mean you're right about KCD, Skyrim not so much. Skyrim is not at all pop culture fantasy, if you actually look into the lore and inspirations for the games world and mythology, it too is very niche. What you see as pop culture is not the game being pop culture, its the game being able to be played by people with all levels of fantasy knowledge, including those only pop culture fantasy knowledge. Lets say Im some kind of super intellectual. I pick up a book and read it amd enjoy it. Some meat head with an IQ comparable to a sack of rocks, picks up and enjoys the same book. I enjoy it for its complex story telling and deep existential themes, he enjoys it because it had a cool story and the main character was badass. Does this mean that the book is meant for stupid people? No, it means that there are several levels to the book, and I was able to perceive levels deeper than the meat head. Im not a super intellectual, I mean Im objectively smart, but Im not on the level of Einstein or Hawking. Im also not big on reading, I dont dislike it but its hard for me to find something I really want to read. But Skyrim is just like that hypothetical book. Its got complex story telling, deep existential themes, and extremely in depth lore, but its also got a cool story and a badass main character. The pop culture types who pick up the game will really only experience it for the latter more shallow reasons one would like a game. True fantasy lovers will experience it on all the levels its intended to be experienced on. They will explore the world in its entirety even reading in game books and will see it as the complex lore filled game that it is. KCD isnt bad, Skyrim isnt bad either, and they are practically incomparable because one is pure fantasy, they didnt even intend for any historical realism, and the other is purely historical, they didnt intend for anything fantastical or unrealistic. They are very different games. The reason Skyrim has such a basic combat system is because combat isnt the games primary focus, its important, but the main focus is to be an RPG. When you play tabletop RPGs like DnD, do you complain about the graphics or the combat system? No, because that isnt the focus, the focus is building building your story. Yes I know its impossible to complain about graphics or combat in DnD but Im sure you get the point. Skyrim isnt a fighting game, its a roleplaying game and it does so fantastically well. If you have a good PC or an XB1 you can make it a good fighting game as well. PS4 isnt even worth mentioning because they allow for so few mods

I don't know why we end up talking about how good is Skyrim and if it's a fighting game or an RPG, but I think we all know what Skyrim is about. Personally, I don't mind graphics, and my problem with Skyrim is that I think is highly overrated. Games like Witcher 3 or Dark Souls are way better in storytelling and Lore, but you have to look for it instead of just accepting that bullshit about you being special and the most powerful mortal in the universe from the start(cliche garbage for me) I was not impressed at all with Skyrim's story, and I don't hate it either, but If I want some reallly good fantasy setting, I will play the Witcher 3 or GOW4 before playing Skyrim.

Way i see it, Skyrim's combat is not even a combat SYSTEM, it's just mindless whacking with pool noodles until the numbers run out. Blocking is pointless, you just receive a little less damage. Dodging is pointless, enemies lock on to you and hit you no matter what. Mods may improve this somewhat but the problem remains that it's not even the most rudimentary rock paper scissors kind of thing like For Honor, it's literally all about grinding stats by clicking mouse 1, then keeping on clicking mouse 1. What's perplexing is that they could have gone the Dark Messiah route, they had the guys from that studio around during development.

Fanboys need to get of this games dick and accept how shit it actually is theres a point where "realism" isnt an excuse to make a combat system this fucked up. combos are useless especially early game as the game does seem to punish you for repeating yourself even when its really your only option to deal decent damage early and even then the ai will just block it 95% of the time.

@@SolomonCaineReaper that's what makes this game so amazing to me. In skyrim, you face 5-7 enemies and it's not even challenging. Pop a potion and go chop away and they're dead in a few seconds. In KCD you have to be strategic, you need to be thinking ahead and taking out the ranged enemies first while watching your back for them closing in. The entire fight you'll have your butthole clenched and be sweating buckets. I'm level 20 now with maxed out defense and sword fighting with full lords of leipis armor and when I run into a group of enemies it's still a fair fight. You never get truly OP in the game and I love it. every fight is intense

@@scarecrow0774 really? I killed the entire camp in the vranik escape on hardcore mode with all negative perks, define OP then. All you have to do is move around to keep your enemies in front of you and pick them off with masterstrikes, they can barely hurt you once you get high vitality (stamina) and high defense (easier masterstrike and perfect block). KCD combat is only fun in a duel because you get to be aggressive and try to combo, in a X vs 1 all you end up doing to sit back and use masterstrikes because you don't want to lose stamina. Honestly combat in mount and blade was better against multiple enemies.

Me too, but forging an entre suit of armor in real life could take a couple of days, and there aré a lot of factores to take into a count with the point the game wants (realism and immersion), because smithing obvously wouldnt be like in Skyrim, and for making a piece of plate armor you need steel, which you need to use una forge (both things that would requiere new Gameplay), and then you need to work that steel; you want to make a Hauberk? make the 15000 rings!! Connect each ring to each other!!! You want to make a cuiras? Heat the steel and hammer It for More than an hour!! What want to say Is that It would requiere a lot of new mechanics, and the perks I its not too much of a problem.

To be fair, in KCD they can have this complex combat system centered around fighting other humans because in that game you only fight against other humans. In Skyrim, you fight against other human-like creatures, and also dragons, giant spiders, local wildlife, more dragons, mages(while human-like, they don't use weapons so I'm counting them separately), Dwemer robots, more dragons... You can also use magic yourself, which would disregard any "complex" melee combat system they could come up with. Having KCD's system works when both the player and all the enemies abide by it, but I don't believe it should be implemented into just any game.

Looking at these comments I'm seeing 3 things: 1. Meme "Get this guy his crossbow!", which I agree. KCD2 should have crossbows unless it takes place before they were invented which could be anywhere from 1066 to 136AD depending on your sources and region. Also, make horses more realistic. 2. The Witcher 3. I'm sorry, but that just doesn't work. It's a completely different game. Now if TW3 had character creation, a less involved main quest line, and first person, then maybe. 3. KCD is too complicated. Short and sweet: "This game is not for you." Long answer: I think KCD did a great job in the field of first person melee combat, but it would not work in third person or in multiplayer. Find a mod that speeds up combat by about 20% and play on hardcore... at that point, you would need the hand-eye coordination and reactive training real HEMA grants you. In that light, it's current form I can see as being clunky, but it's much better than pressing one button repeatedly. All the other slight realism aspects people complain about in KCD are actually all things I mod into Skyrim so I'm a bit biased in that regard in saying I love them and want more. Honestly I wouldn't mind a 3 irl day hike in a medieval setting if I could do so with friends in like a D&D adventure with all the realism aspects, rationing food and water, resting at night having watchers in shifts, I even wouldn't mind the added realism and challenge of "hang on, I have to take care of something in this bush." *ambushed!*

I love them both for vastly different reasons; most of them being the positives you pointed out for each respective game. As far as the camera goes, in many cases. I prefer 3rd person in many games so I can see my awesome armor. However, KCD definitely wouldn't work with a 3rd person camera. As for crossbows being OP, halberds were also OP, but you couldn't store them in your inventory/ on your person, due to their size. I wonder if crossbows would be nerfed like that.

Finally someone said it! polearms were the biggest let down of the whole game (apart from the missing crossbows and Henry having the personality of a plain white bread): Find an awesome bardiche and butcher a camp of kumans, feel awesome, decide to keep it and carry it into the city, everyone goes batshit, pumped up kicks starts playing, the watch murders you...

Walking to the next city, 6 days? I would take that time down by half. I once walked to the nearest other city where I live and it took around 9 hours, but the closest city here is very close, around 40 km. So anything from 1 to 3 days seems more likely, 6 days would be a pretty long distance. Obviously it's not entirely feasible to walk 40 km a day over a longer distance, but 25 should be pretty doable for city to city. That would give you 75 km over 3 days. That should get you to the next city in most of Europe even with the lesser city density of the middle ages.

What do you think of he new hero in For Honor ? Personally I like them a lot especially the male version. He sounds crazy and a like his play style. But I also think that he is the most unrealistic hero of the game with Hitokiri.

@@Spr1ggan87 Yes during KCD's timeframe Firearms were still relatively new but plenty of ornate and engraved firearms date back to KCD's timeframe. The sort of guns that clearly were more jewelry than weapons. And considering Henry hobnobs with three separate Lords, a Lord's Son, and various wealthy individuals some firearms should have been present. Since if the mostly ornamental firearms of KCD's timeframe can survive into the modern age than that would indicate the presence of more heavily used firearms not surviving the passage of time and use. Even if Henry never got his hands on one they should have been in the game in form or another. Perhaps as an unobtainable NPC weapons, would give a reason to bother with heavy armour aside from aesthetics.

Unreal Engine is derivitave also, I guess Street Fighter V, which was made with Unreal Engine, was made with the same 20 year old shitty engine that made Unreal Tournament!

Crossbows and crafting weapons and armor were actually planned to be added to the game but they left them out due to time and money constraints. Same with halberds and polearms which is why you have the option to train halberds with captain bernard despite not having a skill for it in the full release.

nah, "Mordhau" combat (its actually Chivalry combat) is unrealistic and doesnt fit to the rest of KCD gameplay model. In Mordhau armour is a mere numerical factor, in KCD armour plays a vital part, materials and areas are integral in the effectiveness of a hit. Additionally the whole point of KCD is that its based on actual techniques. Thats my opinion on it. Mordau is a very fun arcade game with literally zero historical value and KCD is a demanding almost simulator

If you level up to max with Henry the combat isnt clunky or stiff at all, knowing combos (not just learned the skill but actually knowing them irl) in combination with Henrys skill makes the combat really smooth. Great points otherwise!
