Skyhunter 1800 maiden
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Maiden flight of the full size Skyhunter 1800 kit. This is a very big twin boom pusher for long range FPV. It's an easy kit to put together with nicely designed components. It flies beautifully. Handled the strong turbulent wind with ease and floated for ages.

I used to kitesurf and your intro gave me bad memories as I started with a 12 and 16m2 kite from 2004 haha. Really bad safety and it could pull your arms off, but you learn about the power of the wind when your lines are some 26 meters long. Now I finally started with an XK A800 glider and I think that's enough for me :)

Ha, my arms are aching just thinking about big kites and windsurfing.
Andrew, I love your videos and choice of planes. I too love wind riders, and odd plane designs. I'm a little behind but love these powered gliders, anything that will give me a good 30 minute or longer flight. I'm just finished my last brain cancer radiation treatment (#12) and the plan is to restart chemo in a month after I get an MRI to see about fighting the cancer in my body. I've been battling cancer since 2011. Right now, my body coordination with my hands, balance, brain and eyesight are not good. I have no energy or appetite for food. I just finished building my new Skyhunter 1800mm 3 weeks ago with some of the mods that have been presented in several different KZreads and can't wait to get her in the air, with the Runcam2 recording her onboard flight! Hopefully I will be able to fly in a couple of weeks. Take care, Thank You for your videos, they have been very helpful!

That's a hard battle Ricky, hope the treatment is successful. Thanks for watching and best wishes for a better year ahead
Big skyhunter the grandaddy of FPV , still one of the best 👍👍👍👍

The BIG CADILLAC!, Still flying mine!!!, and its the origional one! ha.
Great job sending that beast up in those conditions, look forward to watching your the mods video.
What beast...not a fan of planes where i can't launch and fly myself...great demo.. 😊
Congrats! Yeah, you need to do the Kevlar fabric and CA reinforcement on the tail and would help on the bottom as well.
I need to get that prop for my SkyHunter... Love the plane, a really great platform for FPV and long range. Great video would love to see more on the SkyHunter.

Don't think that prop is right for this 800kV motor, probably suit 500kV. Mod and flight videos coming soon
Beautiful Plane.
Arguably the greatest all weather FPV platform on the market. Such a great monster that can handle everything thrown at it which is also my favorite FPV airplane. Great look Andrew ... thanks chap.

Another great review sir. Displaying skill and courage in very average flying conditions.

Great Maiden of the Sky Hunter 1800 Andrew. It looks like she has the ability to cover a long distance at a modest throttle setting say around 50%. Large control surfaces make this an excellent long range FPV platform. It handles turbulence quite well [as any long range FPVer] should. Looks like you have cool weather down under during your [winter]. Cheers Florida USA

Nice solid maiden in choppy conditions Andrew. I love the SH, she's such a versatile plane and with a few re-inforcements there isn't a lot she can't handle (i've pulled hard out of a 99mph verticle dive with no problems!). My favourite plane in my fleet. Welcome to the SH club mate....enjoy!

Very nice flying plane. I use the Mini Talon for Fpv but that one would be a great plane for Longrange too ☺️. Probably i buy one soon 😁. As always great Video Andrew!
Thnx i have a 4s 3700mah so i will try that frist then.i just order the ranger 2000 pnp to start with . And will put inav in later .I do have omnibus fc and gps .cant wait start flying 😉
Really like this plane. Nice having some room to get your hands in and work on stuff compared to a small plane. Was happy to see your side toss. Im working on a big plane right now and am trying to think of how to launch as i hate landing gear.

Great to have so much space and it does have the power and glide to launch quite easily
I checked the price on this, its actually pretty decent. thats a really good flight. I like this plane

Nice maiden Andrew. One of my favourite big fpv planes. I was about to recommend a smaller non folding prop but in reading noticed you had changed it already. The over head one handed throw works well with this one for me. Even with bad shoulder I find it quite easy.
@AndrewNewton
7 жыл бұрын
Yes it just lifts off easy powered up now
I've laminated the tailplane and wings with 5 mil which helps to stiffen the elevator. I would suggest a smaller prop in the 12x6 range; although, it depends on your motor setup. Also, a "prop stop" helps to prevent the prop blades from folding too far back causing the start up out of balance issue. The SH can candle 13,000 mah for hand launches; any more and you will want to add landing gear or a big toss off a slope. Have fun and happy flying!

Yep I've just done exactly what you suggest and a non folding prop. Testing again soon

Ha, if only I could plug in your GPS coords and fly it up to you
That's definitely BIG and, from the on-board, just a little wobbly. (I see you've attended to that though) Nice to watch flying even in those conditions. I watching the wings moving whilst you were setting it up and realised that, given the size, that was a tad draughty.
Nice job in the wind. The wind is your friend..

Andrew I have seen you're depron wing video I have made one but I'm having a problem placing the servo in the tail
Nice going Andrew :) Good to see it was so easy to launch! A CF rod between the vertical-stab tips maybe, to stiffen them up a bit?

Laminated them and much improved now. I'd love to shorten the booms so it fits in the car better, but need to experiment
Andrew that plane looked big on your work bench but when you was holding it outside at the beginning of the video..... dang she looked big. Really under estimated the size. Them wings was a shakin during that flight for sure. Awesome maiden.

Very nice 0 THR glide,..I never tried this with mine but I do carry FPV gear and a 10.000 4S Multistar brick for med-long range FPV. TOW of mine is about 3kg. At launch I give it about 50% THR, throw it in the wind and give it 100% THR. Do consider reinforcing the tail section,.. most of us Skyhunter flyers use kevlar cloth + thin CA. Happy Flying ;)

Thanks Dejan. I now have balsa elevator and laminated tail surfaces, much stiffer.
What a beast, that prop looks scary. That one isn't for me. I usually launch and the power up on most of my planes too. Hope you see some better weather soon. Always enjoy your channel and thank you for all your time it takes to publishing them. Cheers

Hey, really like the setup with the folding prop! Wich prop adapter are you using for the maytag folding props? I already got some but they do not fit to the props...

@@AndrewNewton great plane😍 Can I know how much flight time did you got with 3000mah or 3000mah*2
That was a good video. Boy the booms move around a lot eh? Would laminate on the wings help stiffen things up? It always looked like a fragile way to attach a tail.

Just pushed back under the wing for this flight. I eventually taped the antennas to the floor and side wall for best reception.
Do You like this more then the volantex ranger 2000 . I want one with inav and crossfire on 1.3ghz fpv .but do not know what is better. I am coming from quadcopters but love to fly longer then 20 min . I have try the z84 last year but it was a disaster so now i want to try a bigger plane.maybe you can help a little Thanks in advance
@AndrewNewton
5 жыл бұрын
I like flying the Ranger 2000 better, it's much more efficient, but it cant carry the big batteries or fit lots of FPV gear like the SW 1800 can.
Well done Andrew in that awful weather....Cant wait to see you ditch that inappropriate folding prop...its just too big...Yes, those Fins looked rather flexible...You could try gluing some balsa strips to the edges and sand it off..?
@AndrewNewton

It's like the tail surfaces are from a different sized plane, just not right. I've laminated and strengthened it all and taken your advice about the prop. Should be able to test it today

definitely need a blade stopper. That would be disastrous up on air, when you suddenly throttle up from zero thr.
