The latency of live TV is still the sole thing that's putting me off. If they can get the delay down further to become more in line with Terrestrial or Satellite I would probably jump ship. It's mainly live sporting events where this becomes a real issue.

These reasons; Big disadvantages I think, them forcing you to rent the sky stream puck from them and lose it if you ever don't subscribe, the channels not including +1s when unauthorised IPTV services usually have them, no recording means losing programmes or not being able to get them at all if not on demand, enough other missing channels for it to be annoying (eg that's TV and where's Now 70s, Now 80s and Clubland? If you can get more on satellite then why not just have satellite, another one sometimes your internet connection goes down, what are you going to do then, use mobile data?

The whole thing is a terrible deal for viewers and I hope it fails, forcing them to re-think their marketing proposition. You're required to subscribe to their 'entertainment' programme; that's content you've paid for already, but are forced to watch adverts during playback. If you just want sports or movies (cinema), you still have to take the entertainment package, regardless of what the content is. That means $ky is making money from you twice, forcing many to pay even more (£5/m) to use the ff button, it's not even an automatic skip. Want 4K and surround? That's a £6/m paid add-on and certainly not worth the additional charge. $ky pays a fraction of a penny per gigabyte for their data services, it's like an extended warranty for a fridge, virtually all profit. I thought Now TV's output was terrible, but by wearing someone else’s glasses and rubbing your eyes really hard, you can get used to the lowest quality 720p playback fidelity (of all other streaming services). The marketing team at $ky must be laughing at us.

I still have my sky HD box and I’m keeping it & here’s why. Say the football game kicks off at 7:45pm…I set record for it, I watch say ITV Corrie and at commercial break put on the kettle and fill the T-pot, come back & sit down to watch the second half of Corrie, when that’s finished I pour my strong brew come back and sit down & start my footy recording from the whistle, then when the ref blows for half time I go live to the channel just as second half is about to blow. No Ads & from one prog straight to another when I choose. I do this with most TV programming as I also have BT box, Google Chrome, Amazon 4K stick, Roku & many many apps on my 5 TV’s whilst gaming too. Best of all NO ADVERTS.

Great video Steve I used to have the Sky Stream pucks but switched back to Sky Q. Sky Stream had its bugs with constant app crashes and box freezes but seeing this has made me see that it’s improved significantly. I know from reading up the press releases that Sky have the SES Astra contract for 28.2 & 28.5 degrees east satellites until 2028. One would assume we have 5 years left until Sky will switch over to IP completely? OfCom has asked the BBC to build up proposals to broadcast using IP, whether we like it or not TV is switching to IP. Overtime I feel Sky Stream and Glass will be solid products as what happened with Sky Q when it launched it had a lot of issues. The Sky Q hardware is getting old and with more and more apps demanding more from the hardware technology needs to keep moving forward.

Hi Steve great to see you back mate hope you're doing well, I've had SKY stream for 5 months now i got it after watching one of your videos on it, SKY should pay you commision lol. When i first had it it had a few blips but now i get no issues at all, my broadband is 1000mbs down and 1000mbs up, i think SKY stream is definately the way to go if you have a fast solid broadband. I love how i can just move the puck to the bedroom if i'm having a very lazy day or if i'm ill.

Great review. I’ve got SkyQ. Stream looks much cheaper p/month. Is it possible to pick up live tv and restart from beginning. e.g. I turn on the football late, can I watch from beginning. Currently I set up record and watch as I want.

can you browse up and down the channels? So if I was on BBC2 could i go up and down a channel and flick through to see whats on or do you have to choose from the guide or OSD ?

How do you customise the Sky display to remove services (such as Disney+) that I don't have? Can it also be configured so that the terrestrial channels are displayed at the top of the home screen. I don't want movie recommendations when I first switch on my Sky Stream. Is there a way to re-order the layout of the home screen?

Got this today. Seems great. Only problem I noticed was the Apple TV app was not playing in UHD. The quality was not the same as the app on my tv. All other UHD on sky itself looks good and crisp. Not sure what the issue is with Apple TV?

Great review. Does the TV guide take you straight to the live program (thinking about the public broadcasters here) or merely to their app eg BBCi rather than straight to Match of the Day for example? Cheers!

Takes you straight to the live programme/channel. Remember though, there will be a delay (as in behind live broadcast), as it is streamed.

Had sky stream since last October on multiroom - has been great but like all sky stuff just annoys me the price hikes! Have invested in Apple TV 4K which is brilliant & covers my USA apps which u should consider doing Steve. Videos are great & very entertaining

Some are yes like esstenders has a weeks worth at times. Other you have to wait half an hour or so.

I have Sky Q and only watch recorded programs like the snooker on Eurosport and the F1 highlights on Channel 4. Are those programs still available to view after they have aired on Stream?

My only concern with Sky S is that i have TNT Sports for WWE and with having sky q i tend to watch it the next day but with seems of it the stream doesn’t offer the option to watch it the next day due to it not uploading to the stream instantly

I'm on the same internet connection as you with EE and we're not allowed a dish up. I got the Sky puck yesterday as BTTV pro was pretty terrible. Awful picture quality and sluggish. I cancelled that today after nearly 2 years and the box is going back. This Sky stream puck looks so much nicer on my 83" LGC2 telly. So far I'm loving the puck. No issues at all. I got a few months free UHD viewing but it's not clear what content is in UHD. I'm guessing movies but I don't have Sky cinema as I have a better way to stream 4K/Dolby atmos content. Do you think it's worth keeping UHD when I don't use the puck for movies? Is there any TV shows that are in UHD? I can't see a list of UHD content anywhere. Great video mate.

I’m thinking of taking up the £19 a month offer from Sky although it comes to 75 with addons but it’s still £40 cheaper than I pay for Q. I don’t really record since I either watch live or on catch up the next day so it’s not something I’d miss. Early reviews for stream weren’t great especially with regards playlist but landscape seems to have changed now. Is it now easier to find the latest eps because that was a issue previously? I have 350mb package with virgin.

The only issue I wish could be sorted out is adding films split into two on channels like 5. It only ever records or adds part one so you end up with half of the film. Also movies on C4 and other channels you have to watch during the broadcast and when it ends you no longer have access. Other than that really happy with Stream.

Sky Stream looks really good, sadly Sky Germany still focuses on Sky Q. They have a Sky Q IPTV Box that looks like it has the same hardware as the Sky Stream but it still runs on Sky Q Software and it seems like they gave up on releasing Sky Glass in Germany.

It’s got to be said tho, as good as it is, if you have sky q multi screen it is better, you can record, you still get access to “playlists” thru the box sets and catch up areas, get all the apps and you can move the mini boxes where you like Plus the fact if the internet goes down it still works!

Where are you live in Liverpool? I live in a flat and the communal aerial isn’t working and I can’t get any reception. I bought some arrows but they didn’t work so I went over to sky and I get all my channels so it’s not too bad. 👍👍

Totally agree with you regarding Sky Screen. I got rid of Sky Q because of pixels when it’s windy outside causing the dish to shake. Now with a Sky Screen it’s perfect for my needs. My slight irritation is exiting the Apps like Netflix. The Apps seem to vary exiting. But like you said No extra cables throughout and the TV can go anywhere. You mentioned Apple TV did you use the app or separate box? The sad part is the cost tied to a contract ok that to be expected but Movies is a con

Another informative video Steve. I will be coming to the end of my Sky contract soon and thought about Sky Stream when renewing but keep thinking about the recording aspect, as many others do, I have with Sky Q. However, on doing a channel audit we have realised that the majority of channels we watch can be found on Freeview so are thinking of staying with Sky with just the Broadband, unless your EE video makes me think otherwise, and save the cost on the basic package and get a recorder. As an aside we did alter our living room around and contacted Sky about moving the cabling and they did it free of charge, apparently customers get one free move. Any chance of doing a video on the Humax, Manhattan and Freesat recorder boxes? Many thanks

How do you get sky store to work coz I can't get mine work on sky stream puck

I’ve had Stream since April - one problem after another sadly. I was wondering if you have the same Netflix issue as me. If I voice search a title that is only available on Netflix, such as Leave The World Behind, Sky Stream skips a step and takes me directly to the Netflix page instead of taking me to the tile of the title. This means I can’t add it to playlist. With other titles (on any other streaming service or if it is available on netflix and other services), I’m directed to the tile of the title. This means I can add it to playlist if I want to. I’ve complained about this to sky 5 times so far. Each time I’m told that nobody has ever complained about this issue which tells me it’s being ignored. Do you or any of your subscribers have the same issue?

If there are adds, you wont be able to fast forward through them as when you have recorded a programme. So your left with putting up with it or go premium on all the channels you use. Also you have an excellent internet speed. You need to cost in that too.

Hi Steve. Great video. I’ve currently got SkyQ with the full package that I watch on my LGOLED. I’ve been so tempted to switch to Sky Puck one of the positives for me is if I get a Puck for each room I’ll be able to watch in Dolby Atmos and Vision. My sister recently got SkyGlass it seems decent as well. Your sound bar is that a Dolby Atmos system. Do you have a review for this on your channel? I’ve been looking into purchasing one. My LG TV have Dolby Atmos built in.

Dolby Atmos this Dolby Atmos that. Dolby seems to be getting away with a lot of shit lately! IMO Dolby Atmos on a soundbar is just a marketing ploy. Actually some regulation wouldn't go amiss. Just for the record Dolby Atmos with a soundbar, I'm afraid to say is only virtual Atmos. Whether the soundbar has upfiring speakers drivers or not. One is unable to achieve 'object-based audio' when all the speaker drivers are within close proximity with one another! Even though it's only simulated I would imagine to an average listener it probably comes across the quite good. But it's certainly not object-based audio as where all led to believe.

Are the 720p channels in 1080 ?

I found the media apps on Sky Stream to be really slow compared to using the apps on the TV itself. There’s also no way to clear your continue watching list.

If I only have 1 puck and have premium netflicks subscription from Sky, can my child watch Netflix on a regular smart tv? Also is Prime video provided through skystream? Thanks

The premium Netflix should be connected to a Netflix account so you can log in for anywhere to use it. It does have Amazon app as well, as does Sky Q but you need to pay for it from amazon as the actual subscription isn’t included.

Only thing that puts me off , if your internet goes down which it seems to more lately , you will have nothing. With a dish or aerial at least your not going to loose TV altogether.

After a ropey start my Sky Stream service works really well, sound and picture are great and the user interface is fast and slick, don’t really miss recording as nearly everything is on catch-up, the only thing I don’t like is you have to watch the adverts unless you pay extra (minor issue) and you can’t “record” something that you’re watching live if you have to go out, you need to wait for it to be available on catch up which is a pain. Sky are really pushing Stream and Glass, the satellite days are coming to an end, a lot cheaper for Sky to provide the online service rather than satellite dishes, set top boxes, cables and engineers. Who knows, one day Sky tv might be an app 🤷🏻‍♂️

Ive got Sky Q so no need to downgrade.

Mine still hasn't been installed. Being charged for months with no Internet access. Using my phone.

I've had sky stream for about 8 months, it used to be ok but has now developed a fault, audio will not sync with the video, it lags approx 1second or so behind, the only way to resolve this is to switch the sky puck off and re start it. Even after doing this the audio starts to lag again shortly afterwards, v annoying. Internet search provides others have the same issue, sky blame Internet speed, I have fibre which is very fast so I don't believe this is the issue,

Would be better if the remote was rechargeable instead of old style batteries..

I changed over to sky stream so i have 4k ultra hd and hdr all around the house as the sky q minis are limited to 1080p and no hdr ,been really happy with it for the last 7 months, yes you cant record but ive rarely missed out on anything if at all, also if on the rare occasion the internet goes down the puck has an aerial socket allowing you to watch freeview 👍👍

Well Sky sent me a letter after i left with a cracking price for Sky Stream, which was cheaper than just using apps. Unfortunately when i called them for some reason i couldnt get sky stream, but offered me Sky Q back at same price as stream deal. Couldn't say no.

The box itself is quite laggy,not the snappiest streaming device out there,yet you pay £26/m for the basic package.IPTV finally,that’s good but this features were available in East Europe 10+ years ago. Sky services are extremely overpriced,unfortunately.

No it does not. It also does not have any SD channels either. The idea is, that you catch up on the missed programme, using the streaming services.

I moved from Sqy Q like yourself, mainly due to having to reboot the box etc. The biggest difference was the picure quality, HD channels actually look HD now, where on SkyQ they sometimes were more akin to SD, UHD looks on par with Netflix, Amazon and Apple now for the most part, which before the quality wasn't quite there. As you say the apps are much more stable now, I used to use the apps on my TV directly instead of Sky Stream, but now I'm pretty much Sky all the way. I've only got a couple of gripes, can we have a filter to show ONLY HD channels? And the Watch Next section sometimes doesn't sync correctly, had to re-watch programmes by fast-forwarding through them to remove, so a remove option on that list would be ideal. Otherwise VERY happy with my move. Cheers Dean

My sky plus contract is coming to an end soon so been looking in to getting sky stream, but I'm a bit confused about live TV pausing and adding to a playlist/recording. As an avid F1 fan I often start watching the programs may be an hour later. I've been reading some things online that this can't be done can you give some advice.

Had to get rid of my satellite dish and got this stream systems….after 3 months….mine and my wife’s views….it’s the most annoying pile of poo ever invented….crashes constantly…when we go to another box in another room and try to pick up from where we left off…it’s out of sinc….hate it everting about it….waste of money….just wish I could have my satellite and recording system back

If you were to ask me, I would say playlist right now is a fucking mess. Steve, I mean shit the bed, there’s no way of individually adding episodes of the TV show, that just sucks because let’s be real here the playlist is basically a shortcut to every episode available for that show, it’s a mess. What I’d like to see Sky do is say oh, do you want all the episodes or do you just want individual episodes (like the recent episode of insert show here). From there, just making sure that the most recent episode is about as far left as it will go, and then as you go from left to right you just going from newest to oldest. With little niggles aside I don’t really see any other issues or problems with the OS, it’s very clean and definitely a slight step up from the Sky Q OS. However, there will always be people complaining, even if some of the issues are somewhat minuscule and I could just be down to not knowing what you’re getting into. I think having a virtual remote for sky glass/stream should be next on the list, also baked into the Sky Go app, they’ve already done it for the Sky Q system.

@@RateMyTech it’s the only reason really, I haven’t pulled the trigger. Although in all fairness, I probably wouldn’t if NOW actually offered 4K/HDR/Atmos and the Apple TV didn’t have hardware limitations when it comes to multichannel audio with the NOW app, I’d be happy to stick with NOW. Hopefully that makes sense like? Anyway, how are you doing like since your mental health video?

From what I've been reading Sky Q will be stop sell this year and shut down in 2026 due to no new satellites being launched for them, can anyone confirm this?

Could I ask you, in what way is the Playlist better than setting a prog to record? If you add a prog/series to your playlist, you have to hope that it's available - either by Sky or the other streaming services. On many occasions, since I've had this utterly unreliable, trashy nonsense, this has not been the case. When I've called Sky, I've been told that the progs I've put on my playlist have been recorded in the 'cloud', instead of the hard drive of my Sky box. This is total BS and the lie needs to be investigated by trading standards. All the streaming puck (please interchange first letter) is a one stop shop for apps. But, since I've had the damned rubbish I've needed a new remote; new puck and, because of software glitches, I've watched more adverts than programmes. If you want to relax and watch TV, don't buy this cheapo gizmo. It is misrepresented and doesn't work.

Wow that sucks Clive sorry to hear that man. I haven’t had any issues apart from early days of buggy apps. But that’s why we have choice so we can choose what fits our needs best sky Q sounds like it will work better for you and that’s great.

I got the misbegotten nonsense because my satellite dish encountered the new craze for tower blocks in the SE of England. Sky 0 is a better option for me. I'm thinking of starting a puppet theatre with weekly themes including: vampirism, Bond, astronauts and anime.@@RateMyTech

Couldn't even set it up ,refused to take the pin number so couldn't go any further. Cancelled and went bk to sky + , says plug in and go. Don't be fooled it's crap.

Very strange not had a problem really at all

I do love ur videos but I have to say the exaggeration on the whole satellite cables was annoying today. Plus the whole ugly dish stuff was almost like Sky corporate had asked you to be over comical or exuberant about them. Who is moving their TV????? We have moved ours from one wall to another around 3 times in 20yrs Also with enough slack in the cable it hasn’t been a problem and it’s so so easy for an amateur to extend it if needed as I did around 3 years ago when I wall mounted the TV & Box. You glossing over the record function is also a MAJOR obstacle for millions of people so being so dismissive is disappointing. They could easily have added a hard drive and allowed ‘limited’ “downloads” similarly to how they allow this on Sky Go to plug the gap. Sorry but this is a bad Sky advert and we know Sky love their adverts so with Sky Stream or Glass fast forwarding through their constant ads is impossible. Which is basically the whole point of ditching Q it’s about forcing ads not enabling you to move your box everyday maybe to a room with better internet eh as the internet is another thing you glossed over. Very disappointing. I’m with u on Apple TV 100% but this stream and glass promo is Shockingly bad and disrespectful to so may across the country you have failed to understand or reflect. It’s ok for you and that’s fine. Try taking that box around the country instead of just ur house with amazing internet access plus kids who need a backup of shows on demand or people who just want it there without the horrible faf yes your a techie but what about non techies. Are you ignoring them as much as it seems you are! I love ur show but I hated this one. Please tell us Sky didn’t pay for this one?

That’s a fair comment man, I promise you I don’t get paid or anything by them it’s just my opinion of it all. For me personally the SKY Q box is just to big and you can say the dish isnt ugly on the house? The record function is good it is but for me not important. Might be for others just not for me. But I do take what you say on board.
