Sky News explores why home schooling has increased by 78% in five years

Sky News has found that since 2013, the number of children in home education has risen by 78%.
This comes after a series of Freedom of Information requests to local councils.
An estimated 45,000 children are now educated outside of a traditional school.
In England and Wales, the law states that a parent must ensure their child receives an education that's suitable for their age, ability and aptitude.
The Department for Education is researching if there should be greater powers given to councils to allow them to check what education some parents are providing.
It is also investigating the need for a compulsory register introduced for all home-educated children.

Government attacked this from the wrong end. They should be looking into why the homeschooling is increasing. They should then take action by listening to ALL parents.

Exactly. My Council Hero, Independent of course, supports Home Education. Our Government MP is going to try to attend our daughters concert next month. Write complaint letters to your MP. Find out which MPs need sacking. And work as a team. I only know two amazing people in Government Service. And they support our Home Educated daughter.

@@retnavybrat The people in charge can't do much about that. But what they can do is disable the comment section. So none of the toxic people can argue and brainwash each other. And less hatred speech. In every KZread channel I've seen , the news channel has the most toxic comment section . When watching news on TV ,we keep our comments to ourselves because we can't comment and simply not needed to share with others.

Home schooling needs to be well monitored. There needs to be standardised tests. To ensure they're learning.

There should be no standardised tests. That's government over stepping their rights. In USA millions of students are home educated and I hope this trend increases in every other part of the world as well.
