Sky King

Sky King was an American radio and television series. Its lead character was Arizona rancher and aircraft pilot Schuyler "Sky" King. The series may have been based on a true-life personality of the 1930s, Jack Cones, known as the "Flying Constable" of Twentynine Palms in San Bernardino County, California, although this notion is unverified.
The series had strong Western elements. King usually captured criminals and spies and found lost hikers, though he did so with the use of his airplane, the Songbird. Two twin-engine Cessna airplanes were used by King during the course of the TV series. The first was a Cessna T-50 and in later episodes a Cessna 310B was used till the series' end. The 310's make and model type number was prominently displayed during the closing titles.
King and his niece Penny (and sometimes her brother Clipper - first season only) lived on the Flying Crown Ranch, near the fictitious town of Grover, Arizona. Penny and Clipper were also pilots, although they were inexperienced and looked to their uncle for guidance. Penny was an accomplished air racer, rated as a multi-engine pilot, whom Sky trusted to fly the Songbird.

I was a little kid when this show was aired. I didn't miss too many episodes because of my love for aviation. The old black and white shows were always clean with no obscenities and wholesome scripts. The airplane photography was very good for the time. I was glad I grew up in those innocent days. I dont even watch an TV shows anymore. I just watch documentaries on Netflix or KZread.

Sky King! I was convinced my Dad was Sky King. Growing up in South Dakota, my Dad had a single engine plane and would fly around the State. When I figured out that he was using it for work, he was still a Hero to me. He was a veterinarian. Those ranches and sick animals are miles and miles apart. 2-way radios and planes. We were high tech for those days.

Wonderful TV show, wholesome family entertainment, of the 1950s. Kirby Grant as Schuyler "Sky" King, and Gloria Winters as his niece Penny, and their western style adventures in the modern era aboard his trusty Cessna airplane, the Songbird. Ah, great 1950s TV nostalgia...

Two comments: 1). The antenna on the aircraft mock-up is backwards… You would think 🤔 someone would have noticed! 2). When the large stone hit our “ne’er do well” the force of it would have crushed his skull… Here, it just knocked him out of the boat!

I think set design and continuity errors like these were quite common in these early days of television. Thanks for pointing them out. Even in modern times, we can find these types of errors. I like to remember that television is not real life.
