Awesome to see a speed run of this. I've seen a bit of game play before and after the 1.0 release, but it looks like a really fun game.

seeing your "what if" vids where you optimize builds like thief or living armor or get oberon are always fun, but they always make me wonder what it would look like to optimize the game itself and blast through everything as quickly as possible. so this video was REALLY satisfying for me haha. good job man! hope to see more like this, perhaps with a magic run or the new physical buffs etc. keep it up!

I definitely prefer magic runs over physical ones. This was a big surprise. Ideally I want to get Reaper + Lich or at the very least just Lich with Deathtrap. I'll endure and eventually get my run!

Just subbed and wanted to say this is an awesome video. Personally just started playing skul, and absolutely love it. I really hope it can have some longevity like dead cells with lots of dlc.

My first clear was with th warrior and predator, both legendary. My build was tanky enough to let the warrior charge his skills fully. That was the first time I realized the potential of a tanky build on power skulls.

A tip for your future runs: if you ignore the skull reward and go through the door without picking it up, it will be destroyed and you will get the fragments for it. This is faster than breaking manually I found this out completely by accident while playing at 4am and so spaced out I went through the door ignoring the skulls several times

Never knew basic skul can be used this much. Great video!

He's always been pretty powerful when given the right items. People were worried when 1.0 came out that he would drop off because of his lack of upgrades and the fact everybody else (almost, Prisoner) gets one. But luckily he still maintains his badassery!

That skull you got mid run looks awesome, also nice run!

nice. got my first clear earlier, with hunter on legendary + champion. also had shadow knights. was a lot of fun, really grew to like champion over that run.

Feels weird to watch such a old version of the game.

Neat! I wonder if the Ice skull could do comparable on the active physical front with the damage aura..

quick note, you can save a lot of time by not scrapping the skulls, it auto scraps skulls if you go through the door without picking it up.

God I love the new Destroyer Skull whaling on the enemies ... my first successful run had a similar build

Yes! I'll be doing a new tier list but it's going to take a little time. I want to get more experience with each skull, all of their abilities and determine how good they really are. All at legendary of course. It'll be tough but I'm definitely doing it!

I finished with legendary berserker and legendary shield

I thought i would try the same. Started with ghost rider (which i think would be the ideal speed strat skull), got lucky with a few legendary items but died at the end of act three because of my recklessness. Your run is more impressive when you can properly gauge it.

That's a pretty good start for a run. Balancing HP is the tricky part these days. Too cautious and you lose time, too reckless and you lose the run lol

I'll be honest here - as person that haven't bought the game yet, this video show me its actually worth to buy it (i would do that in future anyway just for the story lel) and as you were speaking i got some knowledge about builds so it was nice experience (it was my first time watching the speedrun btw).. There's only 1 more thing that makes me worry about - I'm not ps/controller player, I'm used more to keyboard even if I use it for first time so let's say I would buy this game now on steam - can I play in it just by using keyboard and things? By the way cool video.

Yes you can. You can change all the controls in the settings as well so you can make them whatever you want.

Before 1.0.2? If so im pretty hype for the physical attack buff. I played a little since the update makes werewolf broken as hell.

Speedrun commentary is fairly entertaining.

Great video mate :) I have a bit of question - isn't there an achievement for summoning Oberon? It feels like it should - i just got him for the first time today - had a great run - got all 6 Fairy Tale items + Master Duelist + Demonomicon + Ritual Staff + Archlich. It was awesome but i didn't get any achievement :(

Off the top of my head I'm not sure. There should be if there isn't though. There's an achieve for turning on Rookie mode but not for Oberon? Now that's weird lol

It's just that summoning Oberon is actually very hard (almost impossible to happen randomly) - that was i think my fifth run dedicated to that - i used the strategy you showed with Petty Thief and finally got it just now. It's hard to do and kinda bad there is no achievement for it :(

A small time save that I found when trying to get past the Area 4 boss; you don't need to pick up items or skulls when leaving a room! If you simply open the chest and see the item/skull and know you don't want it, you can leave, and the game will automatically destroy it for you and give you the bone fragments and money!

@@Beelz55 Nono, I was just trying to get past the boss, and on runs when I was making my way to act four, I noticed that if you just leave items or skulls, they break automatically. I haven't tested to see if this works for, say, the painting NPC's item if you leave that on the ground, but I know that if you get a chest item or skull that you know you don't want, there's no need to take the time to break it.

@@Beelz55 The full timeline of events is my sister asked about skull, I did a run or two to show her what it was like, got some good luck with the items I got at the start and decided to do a few runs to try and get to Joan, and during those runs, I did some testing where I left skulls behind, left the room, and watched my fragments. Upon entering the next room an waiting about half a second, the amount of fragments I had went up. I tried the same thing with items, and again, coins went up.

Update: I have finally beat the first tree boss, I got to the second boss, the sisters and well ;-; get annihilated in the second phase. Pretty happy since I progress a lot (to me) and that was the furthest I got :)

You talk wayyy too casual for how insane you are at this haha, like, "yeahhh, and this is a 2 on 1 boss fight where I dodge almost all their attacks and cut through them like butter."

Hey ill be honest it would be dope if they added a dragon skull to the game, like sorta a combination of minotaurus and gargoyle but...more refined like its ability will be able to switch stances like say from flying to walking it would breath fire and land doing magic and physical damage if possible? And from walking to flying it would flap its wings to make wind pressure doing magic damage and small knock back as it flies, and the second ability would change like maybe while flying it could do a flamethrower attack like the gargoyles eye laser but better and do like a swing motion? Like instead of being straight like the gargoyles eye laser but it swings its head up and down to hit ALL in front no matter tge height, for walking it would be like the minotauros uppercut...but better as well maybe like a slow/semi-quick but hard hurting flurry of swings? Of course it would be legendary and may not be AS powerful as the arch-mages meteor but still cool -3- just an idea i made up on the fly Edit:it would also be possibly half the size of THICC ghoul skull if not a little over half, still big but not too thicc to not fit through doors XD

Shield is literally one of the few skulls I haven't properly used since the update believe it or not. Which is weird because I really liked him in Early Access (counter abilities are a guilty pleasure for me). I've GOT to get around to it soon!

Like the game seem to only get to the 2nd boss and just lose. Wish I had all the traits unlocked before the release. Seems having those maxed make a huge difference. Great video.

They do but just keep playing to learn and you'll get used to it I just recently got to act 4 adventure fights. A lot of the game is learning the attack patterns and for the types of skulls to use Beelz told me when I asked him Its all opinions so just play whoever you think is fun.

What papasmurf said. Practice practice practice. A tip is to make it to an enemy that gives you trouble. For example let's say it's the spear guys in act 2. Kill all the other enemies except 1 spear guy. Then practice dodging their attacks until you're barely getting hit anymore. Repeat for each enemy until it's basically muscle memory. Then when there's a group of enemies you'll have a better chance of seeing what's coming at you and moving at the right time. I recommend doing this for all the adventurers & bosses too if they're giving you trouble. Also yes upgrading the traits helps a lot. Good luck!

hey man, you dont need to destroy any of the skulls or items, it auto gives you the bones and gold when moving into a new room, that includes the ones in the castle from the npc's

I thinks it's a new feature that comes with the official release before the hotfix saw the increase in gold and skull as I forgot to destroy before going into the next room

I couldn't watch it all but a quick question, why not take other better skulls before the predetor comes? Is the default skull good in any way anyway?

You could realistically take any skull and wait since you'll probably be destroying them for fragments regardless. But yes, the basic skull is very strong with the right items and as far as Commons go, he's very good.

if your really trying to min/max as much as possible, should have been teleporting with skul a lot more to close distances especially when switching rooms where you seemed to prefer to dash to the exit.

although i did down the last two fights really fast, only 1 min for joan and 2min 4 seconds for all three phases of the last hero

you lose time when you break skulls, you can just go through the gate and get the bones

in 1.3.1 my speedrun was insane, IGT I did 15 minutes.

ngl destroyer, neo samurai and eternal werewolf are my favourite skulls I worship them more than grim reaper or archlich

You should try to get the legendary samurai he has a one shot meter

Yeah I've had a few runs with him but they weren't like....long enough because I keep getting him later in the run lol. I'm being greedy and want to show him off properly by getting him in the first two acts at least. I also want to try adn build him with Orc and lots of physical to get the highest moon slash I can

Somebody else has said this too, is it something they did in the new hotfix maybe? They were addressing the bug where if you leave a room too quick you don't get fragments but they might have just made it automatic. Either way that's a great time save!

@@Beelz55 From watching people play the game for the first time not knowing you can destroy skulls I've seen commons get auto sold for 5bones, 10 for rare skull (1bone penalty) so I would imagine its about 20 for unique and 40 for legend, 3 and 4 bone penalty. For speed runs probably worth only breaking unique/legend.

@@NikRsmn 22 for rare and 44 for legendary. The issue is RNG and numbers. If I hadn't broken down all the Commons in my run I wouldn't have had enough fragments to get Predator to Legendary when I did. By the sounds of it skulls are auto destroyed when you leave a room anyway. So you're either taking skull rooms and living with what you get, or you take item rooms and don't upgrade skulls at all. At that stage you're relying exclusively on Adventurer fights to give you a strong skull, which isn't ideal.

@@Beelz55 for sure. Just tested it and all of them auto broke for full bone fragments. So just speed wise you can shave like 30s throughout a run by not manually breaking skulls. Minor but relevant

I still don't get the game completely. Usually before watching Beelz I've just stacked up on items that increase physical attack% and/or magic attack%. It doesn't seem to work that well. What is the real "Recipe" for Skul?

All comes down to which skulls you're using, whether or not they're using Physical or Magical and learning what items can do for you. Power skulls in general are harder to use. Magic is typically king, some skills are better than others. Inscriptions are still very worth managing depending on your build. Oberon for example, or Madness. It's a balancing act to be fair. You can go all in on power, or take some utility like Sylphid Wings, Warrior's Pauldrons and give yourself breathing room

For power skulls I tend to stack HP and physical attacks. Magic skulls it's magic attacks. And speed skulls I tend to go for physical and critical attacks. By follow this formula and being familiar with enemy patterns its been a while since I've lost a run.

So, I have actually done a physical speed run using Samurai and werewolf.

If vampire tooth healed 1 HP for every three hits instead of three kills it would be so much better

Question. What does cleansing do at Chapter 4?

Enemies in chapter 4 can debuff you and cause you to take extra damage. Cleansing removes this debuff from you :) If you're the kind of person who never really pays attention to your buffs/debuffs, just cleanse each time you see a fountain. That's all you really need to do, if you had a debuff, it's gone, if you were clean, no harm done.

@@Beelz55 yeah xd but im glad they did as magic was always the best way to go.. much safer and overall better dmg.. i wish they did pishic a hard playstile but way better than magic as much of the phisic builds usually ends up being with power skulls draining ur hp while u attack as their slower
