Skoolie Interior Feature Door
Skoolie Interior Feature Door
We finished up the interior walls around our washing machine stand, the man-cave (electrical closet), and between the front and back halves of the bus... all so we could make and hang this custom "feature door" that Mike was dying to build! Since we're not really going to have a feature wall, I guess that makes this our Feature Door instead. We're not sure if it's more of a Hobbity Pirate door, or a Medieval Pub door, or maybe a Dutch Dungeon door, or, well... you decide! And let us know in the comments what you think!

About Us:
Hi! We are Mike & Kerry, the proud owners of a 1992 Bluebird rear engine (pusher), 40-foot school bus! We named her Bussy McBusface in honor of the RRS Boaty McBoatface travesty.
We're building a Tiny-Home-in-a-Bus for full-time living in the most adventure-friendly way possible! In other words, Bussy will not be parked in our driveway, waiting for weekend or holiday getaways... when we finish the build, we'll be packing everything we're keeping into the bus and driving away from this old house forever!
We plan to be boondocking the majority of the time, so you'll see that reflected in our choices throughout the build (100 gallon water tank, composting toilet, solar power system, etc). We'd love to have you stick around and follow us on our journey, throughout the Skoolie Build, and to Infinite Adventures Beyond!
Mike & Kerry

As experienced DIYers ourselves, we remain amazed by the skills, patience, cooperation you two showcase. There are a lot of couples who could never do this let alone make a channel about it too!
Mike's tone when he busts out his Director's hat: "Okay, let's start again...." 👌 It's fairly pimpish, I'm not gonna lie.
He does it all! And he does it all in flip-flop ladies! What are you Mike super human?
I think one of the best things about this channel, besides the name, is that you show us exactly what the process is of making any new, novel home. All of us can find ourselves in common situations and it’s totally fun to see how you manage the challenges.
Mike you are da man!!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽😊😊
Oh man, you guys that flat black hardware looks good with the sweet double door or whatever it’s called lmao. Have to tell you how much I enjoy your story since watching video after video of this bus reno and just impressed with your work! Even the layout I wouldn’t change if it were in my hands and the natural wood tones just soften and warm up the stark white naturally but all the details of the facing closets that create a cozy bedroom nook to the fabulous pex install for such a clean and (I never thought I’d look at a bus bathroom and say “woohoo!!!” welcoming/non-gross space to look forward to bathing in among other uses for bathrooms haha! And sorry I left out details such as in those gorgeous closet cubbies are moveable shelves and omg it could fit a ton of clothing. So there’s 2 things that impress me about your builds and videos... first off you show damn near everything and I sooooooo appreciate it because others leave out more than half and it’s not worth the frustration but yours are filled with great footage of how-to’s. Secondly and just as important is this love story between the two of you. Reminds me of how my husband supported my projects and was just as enthused as your hubby is for you and the dream of 🚌 BUSing off into the sunset together. He just adores you and you him!
I love the editing, especially the scraps at the end.
Your so lucky to have a husband that can build! Your bus is so beautiful! Bloopers were so funny!
Mike's work is amazing. Your bus is beautiful.
I think we are about to spend more money on our tools than our bus cost. We seriously only have a drill as far as electrical tools go. That's an awesome door!

Yeah, that happens.... it's your home. It's worth it!
Thankyou for showing the build. You guys do what the others don't, show us everything. Knowledge is wealth and after watching your channel I feel a little richer. Great job You are the first Bus channel I have subscribed too but I'm from down under so my bus will be backwards and upside down, thanks for adding some knowledge to my dreams keep up the good work.
I know the work is not easy but you both make it look as though it is, that door is the best I have seen...
dude i like your tools this is what my shop looks like a bunch of man tools.
Hello, it's Deb here. You're living my dream. I'm 54 now and disabled. I don't see my dream coming true in this life time. I spent the first half of my life moving every 6 months when my father was in the military, As well as my ex-husband. I've been stationary for 20 years now. I would love to help build one and live in one. I've watched all your build videos and got all worked up all over again lol. Take care and God bless. Deb
The craftsmanship on this build is spectacular!
ARRR!! LADDY checking out me porthole ay!
Okay you two now just stop it your having way to much fun. Great door can't wait to see the stain glass in it great idea I had almost the same idea but not in a split door anyway just wanted to give you prompts its really looking great congratulations on how far you've come its one day at a time right so make it count and someday before you know it you'll be cruising down the Hwy playing that great music you use in your videos good times guy. As always thanks for the ride.
Nice work on the door!!.. I wish I’d paid more attention in woodworking classes 🤔😂
Another great video! As we say in Maine: "You two are wicked clever (wickid clevaah)"!
You two picked (each other) well. Terrific job McBusface team. Really wonderful.
Nice door!! So what, 3 miles to the gallon :)
G’day I just happened to stumble across your channel by chance and after watching a couple of videos I became hooked, I would never contemplate doing what your doing but I find it very interesting in what and how you are converting a school bus into a home.. you are doing a terrific job and I can visualise what she will look like when you have finished her. Your skills are very good and between the two of you it’s fun to watch and you both have filmed and edited it very well, I don’t know where you get the time being a Paramedic because I didn’t when I was. Psychiatric nurse now retired. I’ll finish up by saying I think you two are great and a lovely couple I have subscribed and look forward to the next video kind regards John Kinnane Tasmania Australia
Awesome work! One bit of advice: When wiring your switches, or anything with a wire around a screw terminal, wrap the wire clockwise. That way as you tighten the screw it pulls the wire in around the shaft of the screw. If you wrap it counterclockwise, it has a tendency to try to unwrap the 'hook' as you tighten it down.

Mike, I really like the split door! It's amazing how many different things you can do. You're a very talented craftsman & mechanic. I also love watching Kerry do her crafts. That shower she done was amazing!! Safe travels, God bless you both.
You have some serious skills my friend!!! I love watching your videos!
I'm the same Pamela on facebook Skoolie Nation, I got my bus today, She drives really good! you know how a big truck feels when the fly by you in a car well you can't feel it that bad in a bus, I white knuckled her all the way home! Traffic was so bad! bumper to bumper on the way up and almost on the way home! I did 50 on the way back half way home I got passed by a smart car I told myself ok you can speed up and do 60! So I did! LMBO oh I was so scared. The man parked her in a tiny shopping center let me say that's how I found out how much u have to swing out and turn! I named her Gina that's the first name that can to me! you can see her in the group!
Looking great guys
Loved it.
I was SURE that beefy thing was going to be an exterior door, lol.
God I wish I had the talent as you mike!!! Amazing.

Absolutely love this
Once again another great video from my favourite couple, made my day.. Thanks to the both of you...
Wow!!!! Love the door. Y’all make me smile. Keep having a great time
Nice job. Love the detail work.
Looking great!!!! I was chatting to a guy at work the other day. He does relief work all around the state, filling in gaps in the paramedic rosters in a lot of small towns. Pity your EMS isn't statewide; you could do casual work from town to town while travelling around. Keep up the great work and great videos! Best wishes from Australia.

The wife and I throughly enjoyed watching you craft a very cool looking, nautical door. Very inspirational and it really sets your bus apart. Love your videos.
You two are doing a great job together! 😁
Love the door! You did a great job :)
I’ve been looking forward to this video after I saw the finished product on IG! Great job Guys!
Very cool you two. Your range of skills never ceases to amaze me. Well done.
Excellent job and detail on the door! You two put a lot of thought into each phase and the end result will be amazing. Keep up the great work and videos.
Nice door indeed. Love your videos
aka Captain Jack Scrapper....dang ... I dreamed about this last week...now you just showed me how to do it! No wonder my ship is named " Syncronicity" :-) You 2 are awesome... hope to see you in January
Aka Captain Jack again... since that is a "dutch" Door so to speak, you 2 could do puppet shows from behind the door. Make some sock puppets...charge the kiddos a quarter and give them a Bussy McBusface pin to wear after the show...lol...maybe Captain Jack Scrapper can come in as a villain or something...lol
So cool how she supports and loves your! You have amazing skills and an amazing shop!Love the music!
When i first pressed play i couldnt figure out what you were doing but Woe! How clever!!
Another GREAT Video. You two are Fantastic together . :-)
Very nice job editing 👍🏼👍🏼
That should definitely keep "the Knights that say Ni" out
Another fabulous video ya'll. . So i guess when I'm ready to build I can do it at your place :)
I'm so excited about your bus build. I'd love to see it one day when it's completed. I want to build a Skoolie and become a nomad, but it looks like it'll be 2021 by the time everything is done.
Did you install a hot water line bypass in the shower back to your fresh water tank? Why? Because when you are boondocking and start a shower you can open a valve and let the water go back to your fresh water tank until you get hot water. Then, you close the valve and start your shower. This way, you don't waste any water waiting for hot water.
I would love to see a background video on what decided you both to do a bus conversion and why. I love how the bus is looking ... thank you for the post
I am in love with this door! I want to do one for the bedroom in the back of my bus that will be my daughter. What kind of saw did you use to make the stop of it rounded after gluing the boards together? Any tips of making the door itself?
You know it occurred to me while watching you, that all the tops of the divider walls so to speak will be the same. Have you saved a template for cutting them? Then all you'd need would be the height measurement right? None of my Bussyness of course, I'm just sayin' ; )
Curios ....if you haven't already...what paint are you going ...to paint the exterior with?
Such heavy construction! Are the plywood walls needed for stiffening?

Yes. Unlike a normal house, this is going to be subjected to forces most homes will never see.
Beautiful music selections, as per usual. So. If you set up you're very own jig-ah-mah-gig... you can basically do you're very own version of a CnC machine with your very own router... *$()%($ EH! I believe the kids would refer to such a thing as... "clutch, dude!". Cathy (out o' Ottawa, who continues to gleefully steel her husbands YT while plotting 'ze ol' van build-ing...)

Cool fact 531 that I've gathered in me research? You can use a heat gun to warm up PVC trim. So you can bend it into curves. Home Depo has some really pur-dee trim on the on-line. Just thought I'd put that little jem out there. Night!
