    HatBoyHarvey absolutely it’s just the financial side that’s an issue 😂 found a beautiful set for £250 on gumtree but that’s a bit too much for me at the mo, Shame as they were trimmed a year ago and in lovely condition. My passenger electric window has just stopped working again even though a mechanic changed the fuse for me a week ago and it worked perfectly it’s just stopped again ! Very frustrating mate any tips or ideas? Could it be damp in the rear carpets making the fuses blow? I’ve had water come through the sunroof and drip through the interior light could that have blown the fuse again? Cheers for your help 👍🏼👍🏼

    VRS's with oem leather seats go for more money though, so the seats could add value which you could re-coup later. The switches wear out, the cables going into the doors can break, both with use, also the regulators. Check all connections/wiring. I've found mine had issues in long spells of rain before - parked up in rain and the driver’s window wouldn't close at all, stood there with my coat over it until it eventually worked! Changed the switch - sorted.

    HatBoyHarvey Thankyou for the reply, drives window switches are brand new and genuine. The passenger window fuse blew last week maybe it last that again due to the water ingress from the sunroof and general damp from the rear doors leaking 😢

    Hatboyharvey so I’ve taken out my front seats and deep cleaned them with some multi purpose cleaner all looking good and it came to the point of putting the seats back inside the car and bolting them down! But a thew of them are having trouble threading in they get stuck half way! Any tips or tricks! Or special ways...

  • @HatBoyHarvey

    @HatBoyHarvey

    3 жыл бұрын

    These are easily stripped so be careful. The thread needs to be free running as you tighten them down. What I mean by that is the seat rail tends to pull the bolt to one side or the other if it touches the bolt thread. I found it often miss-aligns the thread. So, as you insert the bolt try not to let the rail touch the bolt as it threads down, making sure it is straight and vertical to the insert in the floor. If you feel it is going astray back it up and re-align. If you have stripped the insert then you will need to either re-tap to use a larger bolt or replace the insert if that is at all possible. Don't leave it loose though as these are an important safety part and new bolts are recommended.

    My drivers seat got stuck all the way back today, quite miffed. I shall be attempting this when the rain stops. Can I not clean the bolts, reapply threadlock myself and refit the old bolts?

  • @HatBoyHarvey

    @HatBoyHarvey

    3 жыл бұрын

    VAG recommended (HatBoyHarvey also) to always renew the bolts as this is a safety item, but how many garages actually stick to this is anybodies guess. Cleaning with new thread-lock will probably be perfectly OK, but if the seat comes loose in an accident and someone is killed the insurance companies may withdraw liability if they have evidence old bolts were negligently installed - resulting in, as is so common now - you becoming liable and not the insurance. Anyway that's the theory, but how likely exactly is that?

    I haven't had the issue myself, but can imagine how that would be annoying. No video I'm afraid. I would go for a new second hand seat, probably two front ones to match from a scrapped car, but i could see seat covers with a pad underneath working also. my Aunt Gertrude has to have a waterproof cover and a rubber ring when we take her to the clinic once in a while :-)

    One of my bolts is smooth, can't even begin to loosen it 'cause the bit has no grip, don't know if anyone ever removed the seats before. Any idea how to remove that bolt?

  • @HatBoyHarvey

    @HatBoyHarvey

    2 жыл бұрын

    These are not always easy to remove. rust can lock them in place especially if you have had water coming into the foot-wells. Soak the bolt with penetrating fluid overnight and then try to get the bit to grip at an angle or even a larger one may be able to force it in to turn it, (any kind of mole-grips won't turn) otherwise you can drill down and use a bolt extractor or drill it completely out carefully and run an m8 tap in to clear the threads and a new bolt.

    Hi, thank you for the nice video. I want to check the connection for my airbag, because the airbag warning lamp is turned on permanently. As i saw on your description from the seat below, there are some cables and connections for the heater, the airbag etc. Is it possible to exchange theses cables or connections, I mean to remove the cover to find it? I didn't find it yet in one of your other videos....thanks for helping. Gerd from Belgium

  • @HatBoyHarvey

    As long as you disconnect the earth lead on the battery you can unplug the leads under the seat to change them out, but it is best to identify the fault by testing the cables with a meter for continuity and make sure the connectors themselves are a good tight fit. OBD diagnostics may help to narrow things down a bit. Are you sure this is the problem as the airbag light comes on for a number of other issue that are unrelated?

    @@HatBoyHarvey first thanks for the fast answer. Well, it was last winter that the car makes ridicilous sounds and effects. The tacho was turning off while driving. I never saw this in any car before :-) there was nothing wrong with the speed or power of the engine, but the electrical circuit was going on crazy, realy scary, the needles of the driving speed, the tank full or empty needle aswell...than after a few seconds all different kind of symbols were blinking and a sound beep beeep beeep permanently...we let check the car at the dealer who didn't found anything with the ODB2, no saved errors. It was the time that also the airbag symbol light turned on. So it realy seamed to me as if the car completely looses his electrical connection while driving....crazy shit. So after now winter was over and there was less humid in the air the error disappeared little by little and didn't appear again. Just when we travelled to UK and we went in humid weather time for how.many days. The dealer told us just that everything with the car is ok and we dont had to worry, and once it happens how many weeks ago when we experienced heavy rain for days! Anyway, the airbag light still turned on after starting the car and os permanently turned on now....

  • @HatBoyHarvey

    @HatBoyHarvey

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes, thanks for the detailed explanation. I've heard this many times and mine also did similar things when it was very wet and humid then corrected itself when dry. First thing I can say is check the rear foot wells for damp as this is a common problem and can be fixed : kzread.info/dash/bejne/YoSeytGOYcqrp84.html. The front carpet can also get wet so check that too. Rear washer jet pipe can come loose in back too: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZKKardyxirjLnLw.html. Second, make sure the battery earth to body and leads have good clean contact and that the battery shows strong Volts 12.3-12.6; if you are struggling to start it in the morning you'll need to change it. Unfortunately the only way to clear the airbag light is through OBD2.

  • @gerd6275

    @gerd6275

    @@HatBoyHarvey absolutely, the carpet in the back has been wet already how many times, even flood :) I really have to take time to put a silicon there, because the previous owner just made some simple wholes there in the foam cover of the door, so that the water can find a way out, but apparently it doesn't help. But is there any electronic cable or socket under the foot carpet in the back? I noticed also that, if the battery is getting older than 3-4 years and the current is getting less strong I mean the voltage there are electronic errors appearing. So first I changed the battery to a new one and it realy disappears. So i will let check the ODB2 at Skoda and than I will know if i can dix it on m own or to let them make the work. Do you have any picture or video what the socket for the airbag under the seat is looking like? (Sorry for my english, I'm trying my best and hope that you understand most of what I try to explain. Take care.

    The engineers would have thought about these things for sure as the seats are a very important safety component. Seat anchors are constantly under load, moving with person sitting on them in a moving car. Bolts with washers could loosen more easily than those without in that situation.
