Skilhunt H300R Review: The Perfect Headlamp?

Ғылым және технология

I review the Skilhunt H300R. Mine came with an XHP50.2 (90 CRI) which I was very impressed with - bright and floody and colors look more true to life. I was surprised by the quality, attention to detail, and performance. I guess they're one of those 'sleeper' brands? I hadn't heard much of them until recently. If you're looking for a solid headlamp, my video will help you decide if this is the right one for you.

Skilhunt H300R
General thoughts after a week of usage/size comparison/practicality/interesting things:
• The box looked unimpressive, but the goods… exceeded my expectations by a mile. The H300R has a build quality that matches or exceeds some of my so-called 'premium' flashlights.
• Doesn't come with a battery. Thought that was a bit weird.
• Comparison with other headlamps.
Overall Construction, LED, lens, bezel, and reflector
• Smooth Gray anodization, appears thick and the machining is perfect. Definitely a step above some of my other headlamps.
• Button/Battery indicator - blue, blinky blue, red, blinky red. Also functions as a location indicator to find light in the dark. The button is on the side rather than the top which makes it easier to press when wearing.
• No battery included in my version. Luckily I have a huge collection of 18650 cells. The headband also comes disassembled which took a while for me to put it together - no instructions. You could probably do it faster than me though! I like how easy it is to remove and install the light into the headband. Simple clip. I can't stand those rubber rings on other headlamps.
• XHP50.2 but also comes with other LED configurations. OP reflector. Aluminum retaining ring around the bezel. The bezel also has some nice deep fins cut into the back which is good to see given the size of the LED. AR glass lens.
UI - modes
• When off: single click to access the last mode in memory. Double-click for turbo. Triple click for strobe. Hold the button for Low mode.
• When on: hold to cycle between Turbo 1/Turbo 2, Low 1/Low2, M1/M2/H. Double-clicking switches from Turbo to the last memory mode.
• 4 clicks to lock the light.
• Quite a complicated UI for a headlamp but once you get your head around it, it's very versatile. If anything you can just use the M1/M2/H setting by turning it on and holding the switch.
Performance - total output, beam profile, longevity, practicality
• Ceiling bounce test, CCT, CRI.
• The beam is warm and smooth, the turbo is like a wall of light, and I'm glad there's a decent-sized hotspot thanks to the larger reflector.
Considerations
• Complicated UI if you want to access all the functions.
• No battery included, though this is probably because mine was a demo model. The instruction manual is a bit confusing to interpret and also does not show you how to assemble the headband. Skilhunt has a video on their page/KZread that shows you how to do it though.
Verdict
The H300R is a clear winner in my books, yes there is a complicated UI when you dig in, but you'll probably only use the main modes and turbo/moonlight. The construction is amazing and feels premium. I like the overall design of the light, it feels modern and well thought out.

Seems decent mate the things I like about it are the magnetic charging and the ease at which you can remove it from the headband. My Armytek Wizard has the rubber holder on the band like your acebeam and it’s a nightmare to remove so I never take it off the rubber holder. How do you think the plastic holder on the Skilhunt will hold up over time can you see the plastic getting fatigued over time and snapping or holding loosely with repeated clipping in and out? Cheers mate

Hi mate, the plastic clip area is quite thick and I don't see any issues in terms of it breaking. I find those rubber ring ones more worrying as they tend to take a bit of pulling and stretching if you remove/install the light often. I also wonder if the rubber will fatigue and crack with age!

@@DarrenYeoYT it will stretch for sure, at least on the thrunites. I've owned thrunites and I love them, I dropped my tn12 in the woods, I loved the stainless steel bezel on that light

Wish it had a type c port instead in a well protectes location. How do you think it stacks up against the wurkkos hd15 probAbly lighter, i like gow that wurkoss ca. Flash red and white, could be useful when biking home and all the drunks are out driving home

You'd get better bang for buck with the Wurkkos but quality wise, Skilhunt is a decent step up is build quality, better driver. Not sure if they have a red flashy mode version for the drunkies though :D
