Excellent, perfect video especially for the beginner, just getting into splitboarding. And I now know why you put skin's on only when the ski's (splitboard) is cold, not at home where it's warm. REI, KEEP THE VIDEO'S COMING IN, ESPECIALLY ON SPLITBOARDING.

I don't see a reason to not put skins on when it's warm.

What’s that vest Grant is wearing? Looks like a cool alternative to a backpack when you don’t need to carry a lot.

Great tips. One question: When would we consider using ski/split crampons when skinning?

You'd use ski crampons when the snow is particularly hard, icy, or you're doing a steep side hill! They increase your grip when used with skins.

Great!! Can't wait to try it!! Silly question though: Can you do it with your regular snowboard boots or do you need specific boots? And when you're walking with split skis, do you have do lift your feet when your walk or can you just drag them?

  • @ryan1collins

You can use your regular snowboard boots but they do sell specific boots that are more geared towards mountaineering. You mostly drag your feet and it makes it easier than the effort you'd put if you were hiking

A very well done and informative video, but It's really titled incorrectly. It's much more of a video for the touring beginner than a video with 8 tips to improve your uphill skinning.
