SketchUp Follow Me In Blender
Ғылым және технология
In this video, I show you how to emulate the Sketch Up Follow Me tool in Blender with Construction Lines - the accurate CAD modelling add-on for Blender.
Create accurate profiles and paths with Construction Lines and use Blender's curves to copy the profiles along the paths.
I use Blender 3.1 and Construction Lines version 0.9.63 in this video

Thank you! You explain very well and I learned a lot!
CRTL+M + X or Y or Z is a shortcut for mirroring object in desired direction. Thanks for the helpful tips. I will check out Construction Lines. It seams useful for architectural modeling.

That's a great tip. Thanks for sharing. Construction Lines was designed for architectural/CAD type work. I hope you find it useful for your needs.
Great addon! I rushed out to get it immediately!
Yeah, I'm buying this.
It's amazing addon for Blender :) I yust buy "now", i so very happy.
Wonderful -- better than SketchUP.
Could you organize profiles in other scenes so that they won't pollute the main scene when there are many profiles?
Kindly try for arch side
I just bought this, it's like the Blender Carver tool on steroids' 😊 But, Wood joints; how do you cut a miter, and cut at angles? like a wedge, the extrude is not working if I draw with Line tool? should it work like the push/pull tool in SketchUp?
Thank you for this! I have an issue where when I apply the bevel to the line around the room, the crown moulding shows up hugely scaled up, even though the profile and the line are both at scale 1,1,1.

That's very strange. Have you applied the scale on the profile? If you have and it's still not working, can you send me the file (or a file with the profile and path copied into it)?

I had this problem until I moved the profile curve's origin to the point where it should attach to the curve, and also made sure the origin of the path curve was centered to it's geometry. Update: I just recreated the problem by moving the origin of the profile way off to the side, and found that was definitely the problem. ;-)
hi, i just bought this addon and i love it! but i have an issue... when i exit the tool blender becomes really slow, even if i just draw a circle or two, or rectangles on a face and extrude them. f.ex. now when in normal blender edit mode just selecting a face will take like a second. if i save and restart everything is fine again. is this normal, or am i missing some setting or something? sry if this is a stupid question, i am a total noob... using blender 3.2

Hi Ralph, Thanks for purchasing CL. Can you message me through my website contact form (dndrawing/feedback) so I can get your system info and I'll look into what's going on. It's not normal behavior so could be a conflict somewhere. Thanks.
How would i trace over an image? i have profile i want as an image but need to trace over with these tools, is it possible? Would be a neat feature to have, also is it possible to input amount of points on a curve?

You can use Blender's own Import Images as Planes add-on and easily use Construction Lines to draw over the image. To change the number of segments on a curve you can either use Ctrl+Mouse Wheel or Ctrl+ +/- you'll see the segment count changing in the top left-and corner.

Just click and drag an image to the UI I do this technique a lot
Hi I have a question. At 2:07, when the cursor is placed at the origin 0, it is automatically detected, but when I want to fix the grid at 10 mm intervals, it is not detected automatically. Is there something wrong with the settings?

Hi, you need to be in orthographic mode and Grid Sub Divs needs to be checked in the tools panel (press 'N' to toggle)
*is there "follow me" feature to pull 2D to 3D like in sketchup..?*

There's a similar feature in the curve properties: Using the same method I describe in the video, there is a group of settings called Start & End mapping in the curve properties. If you adjust the Factor Start and End settings you can control how far along the path the profile travels and also where it starts. Is this the sort of thing you mean?

How did you get it to snap on 10mm grid, I cant for the life of me do that?

Hi Claus, you need to be in an orthographic view (5 on the numpad or use the viewport widget) and you can set the grid spacing in the viewport overlays (top of screen). You might also need to turn grid snapping on in the tool panel ('N' on the keyboard). Hope that helps.

@@dndrawings Ortho mode top view space bar to highight the grid snap/increment and still when I draw my line it is incrementing in .0001. There are no commands in the N panel to snap anything. Not sure why it doesn't work.

@@clausbohm9807 In the N panel, if you click on the CL tab there should be "Grid(Ortho Mode)" and "Grid Sub Dis (Ortho Mode)" check boxes. If these arent visible, it might be that you arent running the latest CL version 0.9.64

@@dndrawings On a different note: think about adding "delete line segment" and "add vertex point on line" in your next release so one can model the line while inside your addon. Also maybe if possible a mirror command around the x,y and/or z axis so one can model half the outline and then mirror the other half.
Where is follow me tool like sketchup bro?
Cant thank you enough for the tutorial, waiting for the next one, and the new add-on 🦾
