Sketchbook 2018 tour (part 1)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

[ EDIT: INSTAGRAM NAME CHANGE- I'm no longer @artistofu on Instagram! I've changed my account name to @dayitofu. ]
Here we go with the new sketchbook!!
Couple of things - I'm still using gouache for my watercolor-looking paintings, but my friend got me a new palette (link below), so this year, I've been reaching for my paintbrushes more often then my pens. This palette has been super incredible, and I feel like I can be way more flexible in my techniques and control colors easier. Also, I've been inserting a lot of text in this book, and I talk about what the writing is all about in the video.

I absolutely adore the look of the text mingling with the art on the page. It makes your notes look like a storybook. Your illustrations are so creative and unique.

You are the artist. The art should be what you want, what you like, how you feel, etc. It should reflect you, and what you're interested in. I love your little people-like creatures! They're a bit spooky, but they're also a bit cute and lovely. What a beautiful sketchbook!

your content inspires me so much. i really appreciate youtubers who remain authentic to themselves, and who do not try to emulate the 'quintessential' disposition of extrovertedness and exuberance. i love how relaxed you sound, and how that relaxed nature manifests itself in your video style and artwork. thank you for making my day with your authenticity. xxxxx

I love your Sketchbook tours they are so unique!!!! I look foward. To the jewelry concept Ahhh. And that girl. Duhhh that's so ridiculous. I definitely agree with you about the purpose and value of art. . . And it's not like lush and simple illustrations can't resonate with people and have a really profound affect on them! ✨💓once again, super nice. My favorite was definitely the girl with the striped blouse and the blue cirlce faces with red mouthes.

That girl, so sad, the comment came from her feelings that she is not able to create art and she can use that as her excuse to give up. Glad you shared that so you could get feedback that get comment was in no way related to art, you know you are creating art and I only hope that girl learns that she too creates art, the restrictions she places on art by her own definition only serves to limit her own growth.

I very much enjoy listening to your thoughts and I encourage you to stay true to yourself, it will always shine through. As someone who is more on the buying end of the art spectrum I can tell you that there is nothing that displeases me more than a snotty shallow and soulless fiend who wants only to make more and more money and has no regard for their client nor for themself. Good luck!

You seem like such a great person, not to mention your art and notes were absolutely beautiful in their simplicity & complexness (I️ know those words juxtapose each other but it’s exactly how you work feels; your illustrations are done in such a way that is minimalistic but eye catching. sorry I’m so bad with my words!! Haha)

Hi there! I'm artist/art major in art history (with an emphasis in Asian art history). Anyway, your "Smists" remind me of the Gaki-zoshi or the Hungry Ghosts Scrolls from Japan. The gaki are not visible to the human eye and are in a constant state of thirst, always consuming anything even yucky things. The gaki are some of my favorite in Japanese art because they appear in scenes were they're doing mischievous things or meddling with human affairs. You should look it up, maybe you can look more into it when you're in Japan. Hoprefully you can find some inspo or build on concepts while developing your Smists more :) Thanks for sharing, you got some really great stuff here!

TheeArlenzo oh wow I am really curious and will look up the Gaki! I’m really having a great time with all these references and things hat people relate my doodles to haha 💕 Art history must be a wild and exciting major!! I’m taking history of Black artists in America and also Contemporary Chinese art atm. They’re incredible topics but I always have a hard time paying attention through history classes..

Ah that's so amazing to hear! i'm trying to familiarize myself with different types of art/artists that I don't usually gravitate towards this year so i'm currently taking a Western American Art class and sometimes it can be a struggle to stay awake during class. Anyway, Black/African American artists in America sounds like a great topic, I definitely don't know much about the topic-I'll be sure to look more into it!

Great video! Your sketchbook is beautiful and I love your style of illustration throughout it. When it comes to what we think art should be, I 100% agree with you and I can just picture what that bitch is like in person and quite frankly, I don't want to meet them. A lot of what we consider to be art now was simply just embellishment and decoration centuries ago so illustrating with one of the intentions of it to be aesthetically pleasing is one of many ways to create art so definitely don't feel guilty about doing it. You do you! I've uploaded a few art videos myself (and one to come this evening) and I'd love it if you checked them out :)
