Probably the best vid on the topic I've ever watched. Thank you! I'm an old fart, learning to do it and I'm currently at exactly this basic level, having successfully mastered a few correct drop ins, and kick turns like described. Huge boost for me to watch how it's done, seems I'm on the right track then.

+Anders1236 Props on getting your drop ins dude! It only gets more fun from here :) When you're ready to step it up, I would recommend looking into either backside rock n rolls or rock to fakies. Thanks for the kind words by the way!

Just tried skating these mini ramps and its like I've never stood on a board before. Bomb instructional guide.
Here's some help on dropping in. I can drop in on flat only, so I don't know how much this will help on vert, but the #1 key to dropping in is to SLAM DOWN. When setting up a drop in, I make sure that my balls of my feet match up with the top part of the tail, just behind the bend where the board hits the tail. NOT on the crease, but a little bit behind it. When putting your front foot on though, what I do is put my foot on the board with zero weight on it, then I take my front foot about an inch/few centimeters off, then immediately SLAM my front foot down on the board, and as I'm doing that, I take all the weight off my back foot, then put some weight back on when all four wheels hit the ground in order to do kick turns. For any beginners, a good way to practice this trick is to find a place where you can put your board half on concrete/smooth ground, and half on grass/soft ground. I then do the drop in onto the concrete side. After I get used to that, I do it the other way around. After that, I hold something while on smooth ground fully, then drop in. And after that, I do the real thing. Now, the funny thing is, I couldn't commit to it for a couple of weeks after I got to the final stage of practice (I did all the practice steps in one day) I set up, then my mind just drifted off, and I didn't focus on what I was doing, and just did the drop in. When doing the drop in, you cant focus on it, because then you get scared and walk away. Instead, try to daydream in a sense, and just let your body take over. If it sounds like I'm tripping, it's because it's 2:30 am, but not focusing on it actually helped me. I hope this advice helps y'all, goodnight.
I've skated since middle school and now I'm 26 and decided to start again but no matter what I've always been scared of the drop in. I always stuck with leveled rails and flat ramps so soon im gonna put this video to good use and practice the drop in. I really really wanna start skating the mini ramps so I just need to get over my fear and just do it! Thank you so much for this video!

Justin Lauria Ive practiced dropping in on a smaller incline but still have trouble commiting my weight to my front foot. Ill get a few successful drop ins on the smaller inclne but then i go back to not commiting the weight. Ima keep practicing still i do it consistently. Ive practiced pumping in the mini ramp to get the feel for it. Thanks for the trick suggestions ill definitely try learning those once i build up to actually dropping in on the mini ramp.

Rat Crew That's really good, man. While skateboarding does have its moments where you have to push past your fear and try something your mind won't let you do, you have to know when you're ready (and usually you really do know whether or not you're ready), so props for building up to dropping in the right way.
I wish I'd watched this before going straight for it on a ramp and dislocating my shoulder. 🤣

Liking this video man. Been skating on and off for about 9 years but never got around to learning anything more than dropping in when it came to park skating. Now I work night shifts 30 seconds away from some decent halfpipes so I'm giving it a shot at long last aha Looking forward to more videos on pipe skating!
this was really helpful, it had exactly what i was looking for, it wasn't to long, and it got straight to the points. this was a great video, i just subbed and liked, so keep up the great work :)

really useful, thanks - just started skating at 50, am at the stage of rolling up and back in fakie; next = kickturns. Hardest thing is finding somewhere quiet to practice.

Thank you!🙂
By far, best "How To" series on KZread. You seem to be based out of Austin. What's the park you are at in the very first clip? I'm visiting Austin in September and want hit up some spots.
Justin super great job now I don't have to do my own how to video,u cover it all dawg,I say covet it all because nice job for a brand new person there s a couple of things that I could add, really just one people don't realize new skaters you don't lean back to lift the front of your board you stay center and lift you front leg and push down on your tail, but dude the flat land tip is the bomb I was ten or eleven when I first went to a skate park and I did so much flat land stuff till a pro happen to come to skate the half pipe and I was lucky enuf to gets some schooling. The other thing I use to focus on was pushing on my back foot when I dropped just so my brain new the back of my board wasn't gonna move till I was on it and away, but great video I love how you did a great job of showing ramp size on of the other balance tricks I used to do is flat ground grab the front of my board tail stand and one eighty kick turn on my tail only all wheels in the air it a good one your on the ground and it gets you comfy moving on your board like you will later when get to airs or kick turns and I practice a tail stall, great work that should get them going from zero to having fun safely...see ya.
