Shostakovich is amazing. If you listen his music when you feel bad, you can forget everything you have in your mind and just plunge in the music

Augustin, I have never regarded Schostakovich as music when you are feeling bad, but perhaps you are right. The bottom in Schostakovich is the the bottom in you/me. We are the same, more or less.
As well as anger there is a sadness almost bordering on despair in this quartet and this interpretation brings out both. Excellent

Sorry to bother you 6 months later, but you have a great ear! Shostakovich wrote three quartets that fairly explicitly engage with awareness of his own mortality: the first, eighth, and fifteenth. He very famously wrote this one in only a few days after seeing the devastation of Berlin in world war 2. He intended to end his own life on the night that it was first played for him, but when his friends finished the piece, he broke into tears and asked them to play it again, and again after that, and he chose to live.
This is a milestone in chamber music. Never can it be neglected. One of Shostakovich masterpieces, in a small format. Thank you all for this wonderful rendition!
Finally found Janine's full ver for this piece
This is one of my favorite interpretations of Shostakovich's string quartet 8! These four really get deep into the sound; I've heard other recordings that are too fast to me and lose musicality.
0:11 I - Largo 5:26 II - Alegro Molto 8:12 III - Allegretto 13:13 IV - Largo 19:21 V - Largo

Thanks
Jansen is truly sensational: such understanding of the style and character. Amazing sound with "meat". Just perfection. She is extremely emotional and passionate which isn't matched 100% by the rest of the musicians.

Janine Jansen is a unique musician. You can't expect others in a chamber group to play as she does.

@@donaldallen1771 I have to oppose your nonsense, Donald Allen! "You can't expect others in a chamber group to play as she does." All in this chamber group are highly qualified, top notch of all chamber musicians. Together they all together make this Schostakovich unforgettable.

And Yaroslav Kargin, remember that each musician has his/her personality, and if not all of them has Janines exploding temperament they still are higly qualified, and among the best chamber musicians in this world.
Just brilliant, this playing...Thank you Janine, Boris, Amihai and Jens Peter.

Geweldige uitvoering, de intensiteit spat er vanaf bij janine. Een van shostakovich's mooiste werken

The second mvm is horribly played.... They lost coordination and pulse ... and because of that climax lost it's punch Janine rushed into it without listening to others. She is not a bad chamber musician but sadly she shifted into solo mood this time instead of listening to the others as well.

The cellist mixed it up big time there. At 6:16 the cello starts lagging a whole bar behind even.

It's Janine's fault, she played an extra measure
Magnifique !

Janine!!! I love her and the intense way of her renditions. This second movement it's a little probe!!!

Yeah for real, what is up with Shostakovich and his pieces interrupted? His first cello concerto was constantly interrupted by a radio in the audience
Bravo
The violist also is great. So intense
It takes an elite quartet to play this piece. Thats cleanest version of the Allegro Molto I’ve ever heard.
Bravi! Bravi! Bravi!!
I am crazy about her🤩🤩🤩🤩

Big mistake in 2nd mov.
Listen to the cello at 6:02 and 6:16. The rhythm is off in one and he's completely lost and lagging behind in the other. :/

Janine Jansen great as usual. The others couldn't always keep up with some mistakes here and there. Can anyone recommend another recording?
