When watching Janine play with major orchestras you get the sense she is really particularly suited for this kind of music, which is so collaborative. She is eternally connecting with members of the orchestra as she tackles a major concerto. Here she is doing it with this group of fine young musicians. She is not only an outstanding violinist but also an inspiration to younger performers. This is gorgeous music and a wonderful performance.

We have often heard that it takes a lifetime to be able to play with the right insight, maturity, or whatever you call it. How about this? A group of young people play as they had lived a long life? No, we have to change our thinking about this. And accept that young people have the same insight in what it is to be a human beeing, the same deep feeling for life. And sometimes they play better than the older. Thank you, Janine, you have done a great job!

These folks are incredibly talented, skilled, well-educated and experienced. This gives them the tools to be expressive where some others might be inhibited by lack of talent, education, technical skill and experience. In past years, excellent teaching and opportunities were more limited, reached fewer people, hence fewer musicians could reach this level. So what might have been true in the past is not true now.

And still they do, these young musicians, they are playing on a level I never heard before. Perhaps I´m overenthusiastic, but no again, I dont think I am exaggerating. This is thrilling. I've loved this piece since hearing it as a child (repeatedly) on 78rpm records in the 1940's, with Heifetz, Primrose, Piatigorsky, et al. It always moves me. Curtisgrindahl's comment nails an aspect of Janine Jansen's playing I've long loved, myself, and have commented on several times: her love of collaboration, including with orchestra members when she's playing a concerto. It's almost as if communication is in her DNA. She grew up playing chamber music with her family, and that spirit of intimate cooperation has informed everything she does. What a privilege and learning experience it must have been for the people who joined her in this performance! She's a musician who feels deeply and understands the value of subtility and nuance as well as passion. Maybe best of all, it is so clear that she loves the music she plays. I could name very few musicians since Dinu Lipatti who convey so much love. How can a sentient being not be moved by such greatness, from the teenaged Mendelssohn, the mature Jansen, and her colleagues, here?

@@Musicienne-DAB1995 She sure does. It's so amazing that, as a conductor, she has to listen to every note of every instrument, all the while playing as well as she does. My mother played violin in various orchestras around the world for most of her adult life. Therefore I've been to countless concerts. Any player in an orchestra generally can't listen to the other players since they've got to concentrate on their own playing. In fact, my mother always said she couldn't hear anything else but other violins and loud instruments like trumpets and timpani when she's not playing. It's often hard enough to hear your own playing with other violins around you. If you watch metal bands in studio they generally wear headphones. same for others that record music. This is done so they can't hear other instruments. So the fact that she's conducting a small group is even more amazing.

So happy to hear this. I've heard the young players at Greenwood Chamber Music Camp play this in several summers; I also heard the Mendelsohn Quartet play it with the Brentano. What a joy it is to be a musician on such occasions, and a listener.
