I first watched Yuki on the television at the 2018 Boston marathon. He was a machine running in the heavy rain 🌧 💪 I wished to see him in action so i traveled to 2023 London marathon. I was so happy to see him at mile 21. You are an inspiration to us all.. Yuki the legend 🇯🇵

So as an elite, you're not allowed to have completed a marathon recently before doing a major because you would potentially not be super fresh and therefore slow elite pack down?

Yuki! The fact that you didn’t receive an elite runner status means I can relate to you more. You represent all of us who are not elite runners who strive to achieve the highest level possible. Thank you for your story. It has helped me believe I could run with the best too.

What a super guy yuki is. I ran Boston in 2018 - it was as close to 'hell on earth' for a runner as one could imagine. How this inspirational man achieved this feat is a testament to his super human talent. I should also add how breathtaking Desiree Lindon - the American pocket rocket - also was on that day. For me that day typifies what the running community are all about. As for the Bostonians who lined the road from start to finish, well they also earned a medal that day. The best of beautiful human kind 💜 As for me well I limped to the finish line, picked up my medal, flew to London and 6 days later in conditions the polar opposite to Boston earned my 6 STAR medal 🏅 My happiest accomplishment of my life

I don't understand it exactly, but I think the idea is that they want elite entrants to commit exclusively to the event (so that they are disincentivised from entering another marathon should they drop out). I think because he was listed as an elite at Osaka Marathon (a Gold Label race), it precluded elite entry within another label race for 60 days?

Why couldn't you just give him an elite start? Surely the printing of the bib wouldn't bankrupt you guys.

Hi James, each Major recruits its elite field and has its own rules around their participation. We were happy that the team in London were able to offer Yuki an alternative way to race that accommodated both his schedule and their elite athlete regulations. We just wanted to be able to bring his story to our community. So proud to be able to call him a Six Star Finisher!
