I think the way that the Secret Six Samurai fits into the story is by the fact that they are the children of the first Six Samurai way that came.

I remember being on master duel, seeing my opponent playing Heroes, and proceeded, on turn 3, to summon Shien’s Advisor and declaring Warrior. Without realizing the consequences of doing so. Neither of us could special summon, neither of us could attack (apparently my opponent was playing a pure variant). We just both had to sit there for turns on end, me with Shi En that I summoned turn one along with Advisor and an ever increasing number of other utility six sams, and my opponent with vision and destiny heroes that were continuously getting buffed by that one continuous spell but unable to attack. Eventually after a game of chicken to see who would lose their patience and surrender first in the 40+ turn game, I assembled enough Hand, Mizuho, and tribute fodder to wipe their board and gain the courage to get rid of advisor for an underworld goddess. Moral of the story: don’t declare Warrior with Shien’s Advisor

YES! YES! YES! Six Samurai are my favorite archetype ever! LET'S GOOOO!

Feel like we missed the opportunity to have a main character use the Six Sams in the anime, and then immediately get hit with a DNA surgery to turn them all into reptiles in a thinly veiled TMNT reference

I can't be the only one thinking that shien's advisor looks like Jackie chan's uncle in that animated series "one more thing"

Ah Six Sams. I'll always love you guys and gals because both you are a sick archetype that basically taught me what synergy can be in a deck and because you inspired Evenly which made the battle phase scary again

Insignificant side notes: The substitution effect of the original six samurai or the protection of the secret lineup can be used to circumvent Asceticism’s destruction if you really want to keep the monster you targeted for whatever reason. Asceticism can also be used on Fuma for summoning Kageki to trigger Fuma’s floating effect during the end phase. You miss out on Kageki’s effect, but you can get a quick effect bounce from Enishi, a search from Kizaru, or whatever else you might want to get. It can even be done during your opponent’s end phase if they were too chicken to run over your Fuma. Cunning can be used on the Synchro Shi En if you want to recycle its negation effect after activating it the first time, since it becomes a fresh copy upon being sent for cost and resurrected. Return and Double Edged can also be used to trigger Fuma during the end of your opponent’s turn to get whatever Six Sam you want from your deck in preparation for your own. If you’re still running kagemusha as a tuner, you could play Naturia beast as an alternative to Shi En. If you happen to have a Double Edge ready after summoning Shi En, you could consider making a Baronne de Fleur for a larger body and more utility.

53:45 Also to add on, you wouldn’t be able to use this in your first turn to negate your opponent’s first turn since Shinobi only skips the *next* turn and not turn current. 55:07 This could actually combo with Shien’s Spy since if your opponent has hard to get over monsters, just give ‘em a weak monster so you could go for game.

I think I figured out the full lore (not sure if anybody else theorised these, but they’re my guesses): I guess I should cover the secret six to work out what happened after Kagemusha defeated Shi En (who later became the spirit of the six samurai and suffered the same fate as he bestowed on Shinai). Rihan: the secret son of Shi En (Kagemusha’s uncle, meaning Mizuho was likely Shi En’s sister/twin sister) who dawned on his father’s armour in the secret skills spell card to get revenge for Shi En before he discovered the truth about his father/his father possessed him. He was then freed of his father’s dark and vengeful spiritual influence. Hatsume: Kagemusha’s daughter who has his red hair and Shinai’s heirloom. The other secret six being the first-ever released samurais’ children or successors based on their attributes. So, before them, Shi En, for some reason, killed Shinai or got him killed. And so, Kagemusha went to Mizuho to disclose about his father’s death and that he became Shi En’s body double to carry out secret missions on his behalf. This led to the final battle in evenly matched. After Kagemusha defeated Shi En, he became the shadow of the six samurai. I hope these make sense.

More Samurai Still need a in-archetype monster negate Maybe another Synchro, since they have enough Tuners to make it possible Maybe a Lv6 Synchro, that explains What happened after Evenly Matched

completely agree. Praying this happens. it sucks to have to use this archetype as just an engine for non six samurai boss monsters and negates.

The artwork is what drew me to the archetype. The game play got me hooked. It has some of the most beautiful any OP cards in the game. Always been a fan of the Samurai 😁

58:07 No big unaffected guys are no problem for samurais. You see there is this line of text on gateway that says, make your monster gain 500 ATK, that has as consequence that you can push any samurai on field to infinite attack once you have established your red and blue counter loop. Also kaijus are not enogh for samurais because they only get rid of one interruption of the opponent while there will be most likely at least two more interrupts. And there is where the decks real weakness lies: playing through interrupts. ALSO your deck usually wants to go first and kaijus do not add anything for going first.

i love my solitaire six samurai deck that gets completely wrecked by a single piece of interaction

Six Samurai id such a great theme with loads of toolbox options that I am really stunned it never was the deck of a protagonist

Six Samurai is my favorite archetype i really hope they add to it soon. It really needs help in modern yugioh. Stronger boss monster and some form of searching for the spells and traps.

hopefully one day goldennova will review superheavy samurai to finish all the most japanese archeytpes.... and clodians too for the lols

They need some more extra deck monsters, maybe another branch of the six samurai who follow pendulum or ritual summoning could be cool :D

Awesome!!!! I love Six Samurai, I hope they get some more support soon. Maybe in the form of another 6 Six Samurai monster, with one of them being a Ritual monster based off of Yasuke since Shien is based off of his Shogun, Oda Nobunaga.

I honestly enjoy the ad I've watched this video a few times because I'm a huge fan of six but I appreciate how much effort you put

Off topic, i love the fact that the wise owl forest theme from dark cloud is in the background during the secret six samurai's. Nice touch.

One of my favorite decks I like to use in master duel.

I’ve gone from loss to next turn win with Backs to the Wall, it really does round out the deck. It also fits well with the samurai theme, with all of your strongest fighters coming back from the brink for one final “do or die” attack. Either one cracks and the game is over, or they hold through for the most vicious of jumpings

I was listening to this then I heard the Wise Owl Forest and got hit with PTSD of searching for the Sundew Drop to finish the dungeon. Nice OST selection Nova. I would love to hear your thoughts on Dark Cloud at some point

I love playing with the original 6, hand, and grandmaster in Edison. Combined with gateway, United and double summon the deck is funny. It can also main floodgates like rivalry of warlords and in Edison specifically royal oppression. Also have a shi en/xyz build with the newer samurai for hat format

14:46 An MtG reference from a Yugioh KZreadr. That's something I don't expect yet wanna see once in a while. Also, I enjoy how Golden brings up Nashi, Moon Sage's Scion, despite him being a ninja. Though tbh, Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty doesn't really have any notable high-tech samurais. But the fact that Nashi is an artificer (aka MtG's fancy way of saying mechanical scientist) makes the joke of futuristic samurai gear all the funnier.

When I started following competitive Yu-Gi-Oh, Six Samurai was one of the first decks I wanted to try because I randomly have a Chamberlain of the Six Samurai in my bulk. Didn't because I wasn't smart enough to figured out the deck. Gravitate towards it anyway because of Power Rangers Samurai and MTG. It's Morphin'Time! Samuraizer! Go go, Samurai!

I love this archetype and have since I assembled a clunky original Six Samurai deck without any of the good support, not even Grandmaster. When I found out there was a structure deck, years later, I stumbled my way into a semi-competitive deck, though in true fashion I lacked many of the key cards.

The amount of lore in these cards, it's so much I can almost taste it (licks popsicle)

Just started getting back to yugio after like a decade later lol lost all my cards and luckily someone gave out a deck for free and it was a samurai deck. Gaining knowledge of this video helped me out to make it stronger.

Used to duel my friends during my high school days and I ran a six sam deck and nobody was ready for it lol. This was back in 2012 so it was just the old style traditional duel lol

Out of the original six Samurai Links, Irou, Zanji and Grandmaster are the only ones I use with secret and legendary at the moment

One thing that bugs me is that the six sams dont replace others with themself (as in jumping in to save a comrade), they replace themself with others ( as in they throw another one in front of the attack)

It's a shame that you only covered Shien Effect monsters, because you missed out on the most historically important card in the theme, Kagemusha of the Blue Flame, the first card seen in the DM anime.

My shame is eternal.

I have a love/hate relationship with this archetype, as it was one I was never able to actually beat when I started playing again, but I find it amazing with great lore, excellent art, and populous enough for my style of play. This archetype is probably the second biggest, second only to the HERO archetypes.

I've been playing the same six sam deck for so long and wanted to spice things up. Theres probably not a person in existence but me dumb enough that plays rescue rabbit and chamberlain of the six samurai or junk warrior. Well its more that I'm bored than anything. If gateway of the six is more than one, the six samurai archetype would become op with infinite more summoning and more mischief. Also, let's not forget why gateway of the six was forbidden in the first place and later limited.

I wish Ninjas would have got the same treatment back in the day like Sams got. Ninjas are okay, but they get held back by their costs to use effects that other archetypes use for free. And they don't really have the same toolbox like Sams do either.

@@darcytoews8841 i actually run most the twilight ninja stuff, only problem with that is that the ninja deck in most cases should be built around stalling your opponent as your normal summon is so important, and there are currently only like 3 ninja monsters that can even utilize a special summon. Long story short this new wave of support coming out is going to be more spam oriented with protection sprinkled in there, but none of the new support are warrior monsters so theres that.
