Six Million Dollar Man Bionic Grip Action Figure - Restoration

Ойын-сауық

In this action figure restoration episode I'm working on a 40+ year old Kenner Bionic Man with 'Bionic Grip' arm. Bringing it back from a roughly played with condition to an excellent displayable collector's figure.

This shows my method for re-creating a decal for the arm, mixing touch-up paint for scuffs on head and brows, clearing up the bionic eye vision, and a thorough overall cleaning.

always pull arms straight when removing the arms , don't angle remove them , you can crack the arm at the shoulder or break off the mounting spars on the body.

I still have a Steve Austin and Jamie Summers in storage somewhere from the 70's when we were kids, Although i'm sure they're not in as good a condition as this figure was. Used to have Maskatron and a Sasquatch as well from that toy line but those have long been gone.

Hello Could you please post how to repair the bionic grip on this figure? Mine has the hand closed and it doesn't open anymore. The yellow button doesn't work either. Thanks.

Hello Charles, At this moment in time I haven't had to make a repair on the bionic grip action on this figure and don't have any first hand experience opening it up to look at the mechanism in the arm. Sorry I couldn't be of more help -

Hello - I'm not sure about replacing the hand on this particular arm type. I haven't come across that issue before . If you can it's probably best to switch the arm out, I'm not too sure what the odds would be to find only the hand itself. Thanks for watching the episode, and try to keep it away from water this time😊 😊

I love the video definitely. But it's kind of a bummer you took the skin off. Because believe it or not finding finding examples that still have great skin on them are far and few in-between. I have a couple in my collection that have fantastic skin still covered from the shoulder all the way to the hand with the decal completely in place. I've been collecting both The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman for over 30 years now..

Sounds like a great collection! I definitely saved the arm rubber skin, which was my reason for carefully removing with cornstarch. It has fine holes from age, but no tears from removal. It's a keeper for sure. Thanks for watching!

+Toy Tinker Tim yes indeed I love my recollecting of my childhood collection. I lost my original collection quite a few years ago which really bummed me out. but I have replaced every major key of my original collection in spades and in a very short amount of time. Mainly because of my 30 years of expertise related to the two perspective television shows. Lately I've decided to collect other similar related items such as Pulsar Man and he is pretty cool looking.

That sounds like a pretty immense recovery for your collection. Pulsar is a pretty unique but not well known figure. I have a couple in the different body types as well. Thanks for sharing and stopping by!

Do you have a fix for the wobbly arm? That’s a very common issue with these figs. I have some that are so loose, the arm often pops off when I put the shirt on, etc.

  • @ToyTinkerTim

I'm thinking it's the design of the connector, the piece attached to the shoulder that has a 'split' peg look. The figures were designed to have the legs and arms come off, so with age the plastic doesn't spring back. Without looking at the figure, I would suggest either try wedging folded paper into that wedge piece in shoulder to help spread it out further (without too much force), and then see if the fit on the arm is any tighter. If that works, maybe go with a material more permanent or a bit heavier to make it even snugger.

Toy Tinker Tim Thanks for the reply! I’ll try that wedge approach and let you know.
