SITKA Films: The Quiet Place

Спорт

Credited with pioneering some of the most effective tactics for taking trophy whitetails in the Bowzone, SITKA Ambassador Jim Hole takes silence pretty seriously. "The Quiet Place" takes you into the world of big whitetail deer and complete silence.

Stresses silence, then drives a ranger to the stand lol

The ranger drives away after and the animals think any threat is gone as long as the hunter stays quiet. If you walked in you would make a ton of steps and make a bit of noise and there would be no sound of the threat leaving.

Why not enter the stand while the ranger is running then it leaves and the deer think the threat is gone? This video didn’t make a ton of sense to me.

  • @pennyontrack

Michael Cheser - Natural Visions Media I can’t speak for Jim but I would imagine the answer would be it’s all about making as little noise for as short time as possible. The ranger isn’t loud enough to cover noises you would make if you climbed fast and walked the last 20 yards fast(snow crunching and possible metal clanging from the stand and steps) so you would still have to move slow anyway for them to not hear you get into the tree. The longer the ranger sits there the more time the animals have to become suspicious of the area. If you drive up stop for a few seconds and than drive away it could easily be heard but the deer hopefully think no one got off. It’s not perfect but it’s better than walking all the way in and trying to be silent for hundreds or thousands of yards. Teleporting would be best :) Lots of negative comments about his techniques on here but I think people are forgetting that they are hunting old mature deer that have survived 4 or more hunting seasons and they are doing it with a bow so it’s significantly harder to outsmart them than younger animals. Plus with no rifle hunters in the area they prob have had a ton of encounters with unsuccessful bow hunters which means close encounters so they may have had a lot of training to learn from. Most hunters never even see deer that old except on trail cameras so to guide people and have them be successful regularly with Bows is very impressive. Shooting an 4 or 5 year old deer from hundreds of yards away with a rifle is one thing but getting 30 yards from one and getting a shot off without them scenting, hearing, or seeing you with a bow is hard to do and even harder to guide someone else to do.

There are a lot of opinions when it comes to hunting. Some guys walk in and set up early others ride in and take forever to get in the damn tree. All I know is my way of doing it has produced results That being said, there are always things to change and I can learn something from this guy, but I’m sure as hell not doing everything this guy does. A deer will smell you before he hears you so that’s what I tend to focus on.

To some, hunting is for meat. To some others, hunting is a competition. Not about who can shoot the biggest deer, but the competition is between the hunter and the deer. To some it's more than drinking a beer and blasting a buck, it's a year round competition with nature to get the food plot to grow, to get the shooting lanes just perfect, and to execute the shot when the time comes. I'm sure this guy wouldn't want to hunt with you either.

I hunted the Edmonton Bowzone in Jim's camp 14 years ago. Was one of my greatest whitetail hunting experiences to date. Hunting the zone is quite different than your typical fall rut hunt in the midwest. The differences must be fully understood in order for one to appreciate the attention to detail that Jim enforces. Glad to see the partnership with Sitka. As soon as I laid eyes on the NEW fanatic pack I knew Jim had something to do with it.

Cool video. I'm seeing a lot of negative comments on here criticizing his methods and dedication just because its not what they would do or not representative of what hunting means to them. That is not the point of the video at all. It's to communicate what it means to the narrator. Why criticize him if his tactics work? Are there other ways that work in other areas? Sure there are. These are his ways take it or leave it.

I don’t agree with the tape. I feel that cloth tape holds more scent than it’s worth. I do tape up my carabiner and a couple other things but definitely not everything. With that, said to each his own. The reason why he has all of them big bucks on his wall is because his system works for him.

I've hunted and fished with Jim many times. I see a few negative and quirky comments here and everyone is entitle to them. I've gone hunting with many other and they're a bunch of yahoo's who 'stalk' the farm lands with a beer in hand while driving their 4x4 till they spot some deer, peel out, walk for 30 meters and shoot. Then they claim they had a tough day hunting and the embellished stories I hear them tell. That's not hunting. Jim is a purist as they'd say. If you don't know anything about him, research first then see if you can get as close as 25 yards to a deer with a bow and no blind. Nothing wrong with learning from someone. He asks me if we want to go fishing or catch fish...and he can guarantee catching fish as we watch others float by waving their fly rods like newbie traffic officers.

I’ve had white tail in 3-10 yards my first year of bow hunting... sitting on 5 gallon dove bucket from the 1980’s. Scent and self control go a long ways. But don’t get me wrong I’ve blown 10 deer out before I got stuck one

Many archer hunters, question ! How to take it to another level! There you go. For me (retired) when I hunt with most guys, I try to get them to take it too another level. They listen but don’t act, like getting in you stand a hour before legal light or go a mile, even two. Same guys help me drag my deer. Still won’t get up earlier or go deeper!! For me weekends fun & hit the diner. During the week game on! Like two different hunts. My drag an average of an hour and half.

I have to be honest, I'm not sure why anyone would want to hunt with this guy. Yes he is successful. I love attention to detail, but this is ridiculous. Deer hunting should not feel like the first day of basic training. For all the beginners out there, be as quiet as possible, but studies have proven that deer audibly pick up about the same amount of noise as a human ear. A mature white tail will smell you long before they hear anything. Play the wind right and don't forget to HAVE FUN!
