Sister Sledge is an American musical vocal group from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Formed in 1971, the group consisted of sisters Debbie, Joni, Kim and Kathy Sledge. The siblings achieved international success at the height of the disco era. The year 1979 saw the release of their breakthrough album We Are Family, which peaked at number three on the US Album Chart and included the 1979 US top ten singles "He's the Greatest Dancer" and "We Are Family". A third single, "Lost in Music", reached the US top forty. "We Are Family" earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.

I love Kathy's raspy voice. It makes her stand out. I see why she was chosen to be lead singer. No one sounds like her. I hope the other sister's appreciate the fact that Kathy's voice is special.

And she was cuter than an armful of kittens! The Sisters were a very important girl group, right up there with the Ronettes and Shangri-Las who were the baddest of the bad. R.I.P. Joni.

Recuerdo cuando empezaron a pasar esta canción por las radios argentinas de aquellos días de finales de 1981 (y todavía no sabía que eran las Sister Sledge) yo estaba convencido que las que cantaban eran Alfa Anderson y Norma Jean Wright de la banda CHIC ¡La voz ronca de Kathy Sledge sonaba idéntica a las de ellas!

Chic's hits: Dance, Dance, Dance; Everybody Dance; Le Freak; I Want Your Love; Good Times; My Forbidden Lover. Bernard Edwards (bass), Nile Rodgers (guitar) wrote and produced Chic's songs; Luther Vandross sang background and wrote vocal arrangements. all 3 were tge inspiration behind Sister Sledge's "We Are Family" album.

Impresionante cuarteto de bellas féminas, todas hermosas, esto lo escuche en aquel Julio de 1981 tenia yo tan solo 19 años de edad, y la época Discotheque era lo máximo ya sea cuando íbamos a andar en Bici con mis cuates allá por los manantiales de Santa Catarina en mi querido TEXCOCO, o solo caminando por las calles de mi querida ciudad, , cuantos recuerdos , nos trepábamos a nuestras bicicletas de carreras de 5 y 10 velocidades y a darle a la montaña. con nuestro WALKMAN escuchando a estas hermosas damas, hoy ya tengo 60 años y los recuerdos me ponen la piel chinita, porque recordar es volver a vivir esa hermosa época DISCO la cual me gustaría regresara algún día, mientras tanto a nuestros hijos ya les hemos platicado y enseñado al respecto. Probably because their was a backlash to disco in 1981 when this song was released and the Chic sound produced by Narada Michael Walden was diluted and not authentic.

@@maatspear this song is a boogie song, it's not a 4 on 4 beat. And this song has synths. It may sound like "we are family" but the snare and clap is louder, which was the (boogie/post-disco) sound at the time. Listen to the pointer sisters "he's so shy" or Patti Austin "do you love me" remix version. The synths can change a song in a big way.

Bruno why do you bring up color. They were not that way, I met them all and was invited to a birthday party for Debbie's daughter in Honolulu. It's about empowerment not race. The American pride never color or you didn't know them at all.
