Sissel Kyrkjebø performing "I Know Him So Well" from the musical Chess, with American singer and actress Judy Kuhn at a concert in Skellefteå, Sweden in 1989. In this duet, two women - Svetlana (Sissel), the Russian chess champion's estranged wife, and Florence (Kuhn), his mistress - express their bittersweet feelings for him and at seeing their relationships fall apart.
Sissel, the international singing sensation and national treasure of Norway, is established as one of the world’s leading crossover sopranos. Her angelic and powerful voice has made Sissel a national institution and she has sung all over the world, selling over ten million solo albums. She has contributed haunting vocal tracks for the soundtrack to Titanic and The Lord of the Rings, and has been performing duets with singers like Charles Aznavour, Andrea Bocelli, Jose Carreras, Placido Domingo, Mario Frangoulis, Josh Groban, Brian May, Neil Sedaka, Bryn Terfel and Russell Watson. In 2005, she was knighted by the King of Norway, as the youngest ever to receive this honour. And in 2006, her album 'The Spirit of the Season' with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir went to number-one on the Billboard Classical Charts, and received a Grammy nomination. A very remarkable voice that only comes once in our lifetime.

Many nice versions of this wonderful song on KZread, but this by far the best I have ever heard. Absolute perfection. The fact that it is a live performance shows how incredibly talented these women are.

I'm absolutely agree. There's an incredible perfection on the attacks and they are fare one another! Judy Kuhn is at the top and Sissel is about only 20 years I think.

Sissel and i have had a long time ago together and now all is over and we want each other more and more.Our hearts are linked together for ever.
Beautiful performance by two acclaimed voices. The notes above might also include references to Ms. Kuhn's impressive credits on Broadway, etc.Both ladies are really exceptional here (this is a challenging duet.)
Judy Kuhn have to honor the Disney Legends award for the Broadway musicals and the singing voice of Pocahontas from Disney's American musical historical fantasy romantic comedy drama film Pocahontas.

Sissel became a great voice as her career progressed, but in _this_ performance, Kuhn's voice quality and physical presence absolutely overpowers Sissel. It's almost too painful to watch.
