    Hi Tim, Thanks so much for the comment! To be perfectly honest, I don't ever shoot macro so I wouldn't be the best person to chat with about it. I think perhaps this could be a little overkill with the waterproofing unless you were shooting in really wet / coastal environments. The tripod has all the functionality to put the camera in the right positions from what I can gather but you'd best research some more on what macro shooters use. If you were to go down the Sirui line, perhaps you'd be better to save some $ and purchase the non-waterproof range! If you are going to shoot across a wide variety of environments that include water, then by all means this could be your tripod. Hope that helps mate.

  • @etchd_

    @etchd_

    6 жыл бұрын

    Hi Fraser, Thanks for the feedback. Do you mean the inner blue ring that is on the main knob? if so there is no function, it just has numbers 1-11 that represent tightness. I don't really ever look at them, more so do it by feel. In terms of how to adjust the tension of the ball head, I am a little confused? The ball head is tightened much the same as other ballheads. If you wish to play around with the inner locking screw, that's how you can calibrate it so that the camera will not flop around. Once you have adjusted it as per the video then you can tighten the main knob all the way and the camera will not move. Hope that helps, I did have a section in the video about that part. But perhaps it wasnt clear enough. Apologies if that is the case. Please let me know if you have any other questions. It really is a great system.

It will most certainly be enough for the Xt3! I have a friend who uses that camera on one of these. You'd have to put a large lens on the camera before you'll have many issues with the ballhead. Funnily enough I never knew that! I remember going to one of Ken's talks and he had his huge wooden tripod out to show people! There is a reason most good landscape photographers use them. Your explanation of the thumbscrew wasn’t clear. What is it used for? Is it a pretension adjustment for the ball head?

  • @etchd_

    @etchd_

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi mate, sorry for the slow reply! Yep, you are correct. It adjusts the tension of the ballhead when the full tension knob is at it's loosest. So you adjust it to suit the weight of your camera set up so that the ballhead doesn't flop if you accidentally loosen the knob all the way.

  • @etchd_

    @etchd_

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi mate, thanks for the comment. In my experience it does really well, however as mentioned in the review, I am using it with my Olympus and i will often leave the IBIS turned on . I know the purists might be against that, but the magnetic IBIS is so good it is a non issue. Whenever I shoot in windy conditions I always hang my bag from the hook and that negates almost all micro vibrations. Sorry I can't offer much more advice on the matter, it will depend a lot on your set up and the conditions i think.

    Hi Etchd, my set (Nikon D500, 70-200mm f2.8 and teleconverter) weighs 2.8kg. This tripod looks very good to me and corresponds to what I'm looking for considering it has spikes, the type of dish and the automatic locking system at the angles. I think these are the normal requirements for a good tripod choice for nature and andscape photography. I'm 1.70m tall and I don't use the extendable column (I only use it in "emergency"), this tripod isnt low for me? Anyway, i'm in doubt with the new sirui ST124. What's your opinion? Thanks

    Hi Paulo, thanks so much for the comment. To be perfectly honest, Sirui have really upgraded their tripod manufacturing technology with the new ST series. It is so much smaller, lighter and easier to use. I find the thick legs of the W-2204 far to cumbersome for my work now and it's now just used as a timelapse or secondary tripod. Where are you based? if you can also grab the new ST-10 series ballhead, you then have the perfect package!

    Dear, sir! A big THANK to you, for this very good and nicely made, fine and helpful review of this unique tripod made by Sirui! May I ask you if you are comfortable with the total weight of this W-2204 in carbon fiber or would you consider sometimes to have the "little brother" I think having the less weight about 1 400 g but also being a bit shorter compared with W-2204? One more question, have you ever considered giving the Arca Swiss Monoball p0 Ballhead a try and attached to your W-2204? Why I am asking, it is because P0 has a unique function to make to the very comfortable panorama head if you sometimes also capturing panoramics? Anyhow, your review is a joy to watch! Thank so very much, and I do wishing you all the Very Best always! Best Regards from Sweden!

    Hi mate thanks so much for the kind words! I'm glad you dig the review! Look to be honest the weight isn't much of a concern as it's pretty light to begin with. It's the physical size of the unit that I it's where I take it. My camera stabilisation is so good that for the majority of shoots I take the A-1205 as it's so small. Most weekend shoots though where I have my car I'll take the w-2204 as it's no sweat there. What camera are you using? And what is your main focus of shots? Night? Stars? The next model down would definitely be a solid option and you can shave much needed weight and size down. My best mate has the w1204 and loves it with his A7rii. I haven't considered that ball head really as I never do panoramas. The Ballhead is easy to remove though so you can play around with that quite easily! Hope that helps

    I had it for one year. My photography style forces me to stay inside the water continuously. IT is not as much water proof as they say... mine died definitively after one year. The gaskets stoped working so water started to go inside the legs, and in a few more the carbon fiber inside the joints broke up and two of the legs lost its ability to be folded. A disaster. Not a hater... I have two Siri travel tripods that I love... but don-t spend the money in this one if you expect to be really waterproof. I didn’t get any support from the seller (I bought it in an eBay shop... my mistake). I can send you photos of the broken parts if you want. I don't care how "good" a product is, even a Bentley or a Bugatti or a Leica xx or whatever have "downsides". The good things speak for themselves. Tell me about the negatives, the downsides, even a couple of (yes they're super subjective, but tell me anyway) pet peeves or things you would change. You did a great job by mentioning that "thumbscrew" issue. That's 'deal-breaker' for me. I prefer the traditional setup of 3 separate knobs, because, as you pointed out, that thumbscrew is not conducive to using in cold weather and/or while wearing gloves. How does their warranty stack up against competitors (Benro, Manfrotto, Giottos, etc.) in the same class? A few years back, I bought the MeFoto travel tripod because everyone online was sucking MeFoto's dick. I bought the thing, used it three times...…………………….well, technically, TWICE. Fucking thing (fortunately) fell apart in my living room (instead of on a cliff) on the third try. Want to know the DOWNSIDES of a travel tripod, no matter how "light" it is or the "cool" colors it comes in or the "cute" little tripod bag that comes with it? The fucking legs (sections) are held together by shitty little plastic clips (probably made in China...………..and that probably cost the company about 10 cents apiece to mold, extrude, or whatever. "Yeah, so what Alderman, everything is plastic and made in China nowadays." Fuck you! That's "So what". Does it seem "smart" to put your $1,000 (or whatever) camera and your $2,000 (or whatever) lenses on something that's held together with $1's worth of plastic? Yeah, well I've seen a lot of video's about, "travel tripods", but I ain't seen none that talk about the shitty little plastic bushings, clips, whatever you call them. LPT: Implement a daily pushup routine into your life and buy a used, name brand aluminum (or wood) tripod that was made in the 1990's...……………..preferably manufactured in Japan or Germany. You're welcome.
