As a fan of neither of these two teams, without question sir Alex’s legacy is unmatched. But all the kudos to Wenger as well. Because after his last league title, Chelsea came into the picture and Arsenal needed to reinvest in the squad, but he wasn’t given the funds to compete for the league. Had Wenger given the tools to compete, I would assume he would’ve led Arsenal to two or three more league titles.
Sometimes Simon looks at Martin like he has massive respect for him and his views and other times he looks at him like he’s a idiot sitting in the corner

Can’t recall the year exactly but I remember looking at the league table once and something like 13 of the clubs were managed by men who had played for Ferguson at one time or another at United or Aberdeen. It was ridiculous….

We’ll never know if he was capable of repeating what he’d achieved for many years in Division Two, but ultimately the record books can only show that he was a second division player. Sunderland were also in the second division when he joined, and were for three of his four seasons there - the only one they were top tier was the last one, when he played three times. Mackems and facts …
Wenger was brutal the last 10 years or so. Teams had no back bone or mental resiliance. He's lucky her inherited such a great defence at Arsenal when he first arrived.
Wow what a clash
Guardiola, Luis Enrique, Antonio Conte, Diego Simeone, Xavi, Zidane - all top players and good managers
Sir Alex record is outstanding but Wenger was a revolutionary manager. He changed the game In England. He also opened the door for a large influx of foreign managers. His achievements are underated. He was at a club that didn't have the financial muscle that man u and Chelsea and later man city had. He was working against the gradient. Arsenal were a selling club and yet he achieved amazing things. Most successful manager in fa cup history and the invincibles.

Always been a fan of Simon, he was honest, blunt but mostly respectful. He’s started to enter into the interrupting bully territory recently and I’m not a fan
If Wenger was given the funds SAF was he’d have done the same. They basically have the same trophies won their first 10 years at Arsenal & United. Then the emirates was built and financial backing went out the window and so did our trophies bar a few FA Cups.
Given his background the best way for Martin to reply is to say, every player who played under Wenger knew they could never reach his genius level of manager so they have just all decided to spend the rest of their lives living on a beach with a cocktail in their hand. Players who played under Ferguson just thought they might be able to influence the officials like crafty Ferguson did.
They were both geniuses in different ways. Let's leave it at that.
I think it is admirable that he took time to care for his mother. Could easily have paid someone else. Good man.
Why did Simon laugh just after the question about management? Either they are very good friends or they hate each other.
Arteta only knows what guardiola knows Xabi alonso is a more appropriate example because he's not strictly inspired by rafa benitez. He has had other winning coaches to learn from gerrard, riera, torres, kuyt all went into coaching too
Arteta was a top player at his peak. He just couldn’t get into the Spain side because that had his best friend Xabi Alonso, plus the likes of Marcos Senna, Xavi, Iniesta, Cesc Fabregas, David Silva, Santi Cazorla, Sergio Busquetts, Juan Mata… all the deep lying positions and playmaker positions were covered. Arteta at his peak for Everton and Arsenal was one of the best midfielders in England.
Tbf Ferguson not only shaped Bruce into being a manager, he made him into one that would get his teams to roll over for him too.
Cesc, Arteta, Henry, Viera, van Bronkhorst etc. are up and coming managers. Give them time.
5:38 Martin demonstrating there that while he can't match Simon for intellect he can very likely exceed him on much more important attributes like empathy and friendship

On the Wenger V Furgie question Arteta is the best of the bunch. Steve Bruce second due to haveing a long career with several promotions. I dont think either were great at having 'accolites'. Pep, bielsa etc have a better reputation than both at making managers. Rooney, Thiery, Carrick and Patrick V are very average managers that have forged their own way , mostly on the basis of their playing career. None of their styles of managing, resembles their old playing style because the game has changed so much.

Isn't Arteta a "Wenger Acolyte"? Wenger is the most successful manager in FA Cup history, and Arteta has already won an FA Cup; as well as completely reinventing Arsenal as a club, as Wenger did.
Why is this even a debate Im old enough to watch the rivalry in the late 90s and yes wenger won a few premier leagues with one of them invincible brilliant but he couldn't reinvent himself when Chelsea where bought by Abramovich then Man City by Abu Dhabi were as SAF did reinvent himself by still winning the GOAT
