SINUS INFECTION or SINUSITIS-(BEST WAYS TO PREVENT AND TREAT)

A Sinus infection can be miserable. Check this video out to get ideas on how to recognize one, what you can do at home to treat and prevent from getting worse and when to see the doctor!
Here's a review of the material presented:
Most common symptoms of sinus infection are
• Cough
• Congestion
• runny nose
• sinus pain and pressure
• sometimes fevers
• Drainage down the back of your throat.
Some reasons you may want to go to doctor sooner:
• Persistent fever over 101.
• Symptoms that are getting worse or lasting more than 10 days are a concern
• Symptoms that initially started to get better then all of a sudden got worse and continued to do so
Most of the time we don’t consider treating a sinus infection unless they have been going on for over 10 days or if you are having severe symptoms not relieved by normal treatments
Things you can focus on at home to help:
The first thing we can start trying are Decongestants: Now there are three main types that you can get over the counter.
a. The first is Phenylephrine- this is the ingredient that you can find in most of your decongestants that they sell on the shelf. It can help some and it is easier to get but it’s probably the least effective out of all of them.
b. The second you can get is pseudoephedrine or Sudafed. This tends to work better than the phenylephrine but its main problem is that government does control the sale of it. You need to ask the pharmacist for this one.
c. The last one is oxymetazoline, these are your Afrin nasal spray type productus. Theses are very fast acting and can work pretty well. We have to offer up a really big warning here though. You don’t want to be taking Afrin for more than 3-4 days
2. A Second group that can be helpful are taking some mucus thinners such as Mucinex. These medications when taken with a lot of water help to thin out the mucus secretions and can help facilitate a little better draining of the sinus. So look on the box and take them as directed.
3. The third thing you can do is start using some Nasal Steroids: these are now over the counter medications such as Flonase, Nasacort- these work best in trying to help keep the inflammation down in your nasal passages and sinus. These medications don’t start working right away. It takes a few days for them to start to take affect so they aren’t meant for immediate relief. They are best if you use them daily to try and prevent recurrent infections.
4. Sinus rinse- These include things like saline spray, Sinus rinse kits such as those made by Neil-Med, Neti-pot or the Navage. Use them according to manufacturers instructions.
**Disclaimer- Remember my purpose in sharing this information for you is to educate you in things that you can think about in trying to make decisions in your own health. In no way should be taken as direct medical advice to you in your own situation. Please consult your own doctor for concerns regarding your specific situation.

🌹 Take some ginger root and chop it up fine or put it in a blender with water. Then simmer it on the stove, creating a light amount of steam.Rap a wet towel around the rim of the pan and form a tunnel for the steam to rise. You then breath this ginger steam.Be careful not to burn yourself on the steam..Keep your face close enough to breathe the steam but far away enough to not get burned. The ginger is cleansing and anti-inflammatory. Ginger is antimicrobial and has shown anti bacterial activity against staph and strep.Your sinuses and your lungs will love you 😻

Excellent video. I was desperate about a week ago. My common cold turned into a sinus infection. When this happens, my head feels like it’s packed with cement and I can’t breath. The pharmacist recommended Mucinex D, which has the pseudoephedrine and an expectorant in it and Flonase. I believe the doc is right. The key is to keep the nasal passages open, so you can drain it out and heal. He shared many good ideas.

Had recent viral infection (nasal congestion, runny nose) that differed from my usual seasonal allergies. I agree with your suggestions above. What I did differently this time was to address runny nose and congestion by taking dayquil (containing phenylephrine) as needed for 3 days. I also minimized blowing my nose (preventing viral spread). Ten years ago I had severe sinusitis which I felt during descent on a plane ride. This time, I had very minimal pain during recent plane ride. I think prevention is key, but also treating symptoms early on to prevent spread is helpful.

The data on zinc is mixed. The studies lean toward showing that it can decrease the duration of colds. Problem is that there is no consensus on the amount, frequency and length to take that will work. Other than a stomach upset and bad taste it’s not going to hurt so go for it. Just avoid the nasal zinc. It can damage your smell. Stay tuned in the next couple weeks. I have a video coming out exactly on this subject.

I do it and it's s wonderful. I got an ear and brain infection for not using distilled water. If most of us don't drink regular drinking water, why would I want to put it in my nose? I am having post-covid sinusitis and it's miserable. Essentially: Steam is useful - bowels of water and showers, inhale steam. A good diet - fresh fruit & veg if possible, avoid junk food (heavily refined garbage and oily nonsense are a no no). General hydration. Gentle exercise. Lots of rest. Minimise stimulants like caffeine, as this won't help. Obviously no alcohol and don't smoke! Try to remain positive. If it doesn't clear after a few weeks, maybe Antibiotics - ask your GP. * Ibuprofen has helped to relieve aching and pain sensations

I’ve been dealing with sinus infections for over 7 years at least! The symptom that it really bothers me is the fatigue. Along these years I’ve done a few things that it really helped me. 1.First of all, for prevention: Lemon with water every day on a empty stomach. Once I stopped doing this daily I got infected again! 2. Sleep with two pillows to keep your head slightly elevated so it helps on your breathing. The air goes through more easily. 3. Nasal spray at least twice a day. 4. Drink a lot of water. 5. In worst case scenarios I had to go to see a specialist and take antibiotics, because they were caused by a bacteria, so I could feel brand new ! I hope this helps! 🇧🇷 Oh! Check your vitamin D levels! Once I had mine in a good level, I had only one little mild episode of sinusitis and it went away quickly! This makes your immune system much stronger! I have it again because I had coronavirus. Getting better though! 🤦🏻‍♀️☺️

Bloody excellent video. I do the sinus rinse, I use the pharmacy Sudafed, I spray… and my nose is definitely addicted to the oxymetazoline. As one (unhelpful) ENT Doctor once said, I am blessed with slits for nasal passages. He was so not helpful. I’ll try the cortisone sprays and try to be patient but this is weeks of no relief and I have to fly for 6 hours in a few days and my ears are unbearable with pressure. I’ll try the mucinex. I’ve not tried that one.

My ENT consultant gave me a massive syringe and told me to mix a heaped spoon of salt and a half spoon of bicarbonate of soda into a pint of water, then use the syringe to spray the mixture up my nose every morning……I’ve not had any issues since I started doing that. I constantly had sinus and throat issues, hence why I was referred to ENT.

I used too much salt when I did irrigation and choked giving me the scare of my life. So if you are going to do nasal irrigation please make sure you don't put too much salt in. Unfortunately that put me off so I got a nasal spray sinusoothe and that keeps my sinuses clear. I used to have terrible congestion due to allergies that also caused sinus infections but this not only keeps my passages clear but also has cured my infection and my allergies don't seem to be as bad. I also haven't caught a cold, flu or even COVID since I started using this over two years ago. But I still take COVID precautions. maybe I've just been lucky.

I was pregnant so I couldn’t take everything but my husband got it too and was prescribed Ivermectin, a monoclonal antibody infusion iv, zinc, quercitin, daily aspirin, high doses of vitamin d, and vitamin c, a steroid for his lungs later and an antibiotic. I had a cold in January and have had congestion and drainage ever since. (Although I have hayfever/allergies which has been flaring up the past few months) I lie down and when I wake up, my nose is totally blocked and the backed up mucus persists annoyingly for about an hour and about every few weeks ALL DAY (this has been going on everyday since January). I finally tried some facial pressure, massage the past month which FINALLY started to clear my maxillary sinus'. But it wasn't a "permanent" solution. Yesterday, I took some vigorous exercise and in the morning air my ears were too cold and started to give me intense pain, which spread to my jaw, nose area and forehead ( behind my eyes). I was on the verge of tears. ALL MY SINUSES ?! I'm taking painkillers right now, because this pain has GOT TO GO! I hadn't even thought of taking nasal spray or decongestants. But this pain is really debilitating and I don't want to take painkillers every day! I have no idea why I haven't tried to fix it sooner, but I'm going to fix it now. Thanks for this informative video- really appreciate it!!!

If you have severe pain, you have an infection, and have to get treated with antibiotics. Do a panel test to know exactly what you are allergic to, then get a sinus wash, rinse with the powder it comes with all that removes the substance you are allergic to, you will feel better in no time, the spray is used only when your glands are swollen but it only temporarily relieves symptoms, the sinus wash will remove it completely

I have had swelling in one side of my nose & pain in the roof of my mouth since April. I took antibiotics last December & it went away, but now has returned & won't go away. One ENT wanted to do surgery. When I went to a 2nd ENT she told me I did not have a sinus infection. She advised for me to put neosporin in my nose twice a day.The swelling in my nose went away but the roof of my mouth still hurt. I then went to my primary Dr. & he told me this is happening to me because I have a lower than normal immune system. I'm at my wits end & I guess I have to live with this. I'm miserable every single day. Sinus rinses don't take down swelling. I'm afraid to use flonase or nasocort because I have osteoporosis & was told this could make it worse. The swelling is now back in my nose that makes the roof of my mouth hurt even more. I can't keep using neosporin in my nose because that could be bad. Any suggestions?
