They took away the lyrics for some reason, so here they are: Can you believe it? This is not Rutter. It sounds a bit like his style of writing songs. I can believe it. This is not Rutter. It sounds a bit similar, but something's gone all wrong. Here's the chorus; it's often melodic. This is the style but less harmonic. Shame we can't give you a better lyric, but there you go. That was a key change, made to suit our range, or we sound strange, though no-one knows why. There was another (another key), but it's no bother: we can sing every note and even way up high. Here's the chorus; the tune's in soprano. Sometimes it's sung without the piano. No staccato no rubato, vibrato, so there you go (go). Oooh, sing out your oohs now. Sing out your ahs now. Ooh, sing out your ahs and ooh and ah and ooh. There must be another bit where we are so articulate, and we utter it, not mutter it, or splutter or Rutter it. Here's the last chorus; the final climax. Now quite familiar but has some drawbacks. If sung too loudly this is where your voice cracks, just at the end. Amen.

You really do have to know Rutter to appreciate this, don't you. I laughed most of the way through. He and I are the same age. And I have been hearing Rutter for the majority of my life. My wife has sung in church choirs... as did I (briefly, to the relief of many.) I can recall more than once hearing a piece and saying "That has to be Rutter."

Last fall a new piece appeared in our folder at church for Wednesday night rehearsal. I was late walking in and just picked it up and moved to the page indicated by my fellow baritone. We read through the entire piece, at which point I turned to me friend and complimented the composer on his Rutter impression. At which point I turned to the cover page and discovered that it was in fact Rutter. I wasn't shocked, obviously!

Hahaha. Compose with the style of Rutter! Graceful melody with jump interval, with common chord progression, and modulates everywhere (usually minor 3rd, goes up or down). Begin with light soprano chanting, and followed by tenor and bass in chorus with classical harmony. Hahaha I've known and become a fans of Rutter. God Bless Mr Rutter!
