Something that really amazes me about this old video clip is that it feels like the cameramen were ready IN ADVANCE to take the best shots and you can see more than one camera working, you can even see the facial reactions of the audience in the right time. It is a brilliant job that today it's easier to do with our modern technology, but we're talking about a video clip from 1970! Stunning! It's like the cameramen had been guided by an illuminating force to leave us a magnificent video clip from those old days.

The audio technology at the time couldn't handle his voice, those speakers were ready to explode😂

The song talks about been sad about a breakup, in the second part you understand that is not an ordinary breakup is an "eternal" breakup if you understand what I mean, the lyrics alone send chills to my bones.

he was 22 or 23 at the time, this was a competition and he didn’t win first place, those faces you saw on screen were already accomplished artists genuinely reacting to his talent, this performance made him famous over night, i’m 23 now, my parents were born two years before this performance, this art is truly timeless

This was the first time he performed. It was a song competition they used to have which involved competitors from many Latin american countries. Nobody knew the guy, the reason they applaud and cheer is because he was representing Mexico. He finished third place if I'm not mistaken and eventually went to become a legend in his home country.

He was from the same town as me Azcapotzalco and my dad tell the storie that for a bottle of Ron he agree to sing serenates on his young years. But he was already famous. Thats why Cantoral choose him for sing the song. Muñiz the way with open mouth he new him already. But that night he make historie

He was well known already and it wasn't his first performance of this song. They did not applauded and cheered because he was representing Mexico, they did that because he was a virtuoso, he gave them a once in a lifetime experience that might never be replicated in the history of humankind. Of course there are a lot of good singers and performers out there, but people that day were blessed to experience such an amazing performance, not even José José was able to replicate what he did that very time. We are lucky all of this got recorded and we can experience a fraction of what happened in real life.

What many people don't mention and you may not know is that this is one of his first real performances. He did a lot of club and opening for others and off course he was trained by his opera and piano stars parents. But Cantoral the author of this song wanted him because he feel only he could give the song the strength that it needed. Both Jose Jose and Cantoral got famous out of this. Funniest thing they end up on third place on this competition. No one remembers the winners.
