Singer Buttonhole Attachment No. 86662
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
The Singer Buttonhole Attachment No. 86662 allows any low shank, straight stitch sewing machine to create a variety of buttonholes
While it may look like you would need a degree in engineering to operate it, once you have used this buttonholer a few times, you'll marvel at its simplicity.
Considering the design is over 70 years old, it still produces quality buttonholes that will rival any modern machine.

Thank you for the tutorial kind sir ! I recently was gifted this model button hole attachment for my 99k hand crank. So excited to use it. Without videos like yours I’d be a lost pup 🙏🏻

Oh wow - I have three vintage Singer buttonholers, but not this one! I LOVE the buttonholes that they make. I’m thinking that I’ll dedicate one of my vintage Singer’s just for making buttonholes as I rarely use it anyway! Then it would be used quite a bit! Thanks for showing us this version!

This is the most common version of the buttonholer here in the UK. I have three or four of them. I think the ones with cams were more popular in the States.

@@CurioByBSpokeDesigns I think that yours is more useful than the ones I have with cams as it looks like you can do tiny setting changes in the size of the buttonholes that I can’t! I think I’ll look on EBAY and see if I can get one in the USA. I’m from Oregon. Or, when Boris finally lets us into the UK again - I’ll look around the shops for one or have one of my UK friends pick one up for me! Our governor has locked us down for 9 1/2 months. Our theaters (cinemas) have never opened back up here! On a happy note - I’m getting a lot of sewing done and catching up on all the UK Christmas Sewing Vlogger’s. The UK really knows how to decorate for Christmas! Love, love, love your little villages.

I just had a look at Ebay and Etsy for your version of the buttonholer. I think that I can fly to England for less, LOL (not really)! I think two were from England and one was from Greece. With the shipping, they'd be about $145.00. I'll keep an eye out for one though. Wow, huh!

Hi there. I am new to sewing and I'm using your vids as an excellent guide so thank you so much. I have this holer and a singer 66. My problem is it clogs up under the feed dog plate half the time. Without the attachment it never clogs. If you have any ideas then I'd love to hear from you. Many thanks guys

You may need to play around with the top tension a bit to get it right. Are you using a feed dog cover?

Thank you so much for the advice mate. It worked. After an hour or 2 fiddling around with both tensions it finally sews correctly, no nesting underneath and no clogs. Very happy about that.
This video is so, so helpful. Thank you 🙏 very much for posting! I thought that the buttonholer attachments all required the templates to work. I have a 306 and a 201 ….. could you please tell me if this attachment will work on either or both of my machines. Thanks 😊so much.

@@CurioByBSpokeDesigns thank you for your answer. I have placed a bid on an 86662 which is up for auction. It appears to be in brand new condition, even having the original piece of cardboard covering it inside the box plus the instruction book in pristine condition.
Thank you for the excellent videos. A question to this one: I like the keyhole shaped buttonholes this will make, but the factory only ever supplied two sizes of dies for these, 5/8" and I think 1 1/8". Instructions are provided for making short buttonholes longer, a somewhat fiddly process. But is it possible to use the longest keyhole die and make in between lengths, for instance 3/4 or 1"? In other words, can you somehow stop short of the full length buttonhle, and then have the attachment close off the end as usual?
@CurioByBSpokeDesigns
Жыл бұрын
This particular buttonholer does not do the key hole style button holes. I think you would need to experiment to see if you can change the length of the button holes.

Hi, I have the 121795 model which works the same but has a different cover as it exposes side of the ratcheting cog actuated by the needle bar. Anyway, I have it mounted and threaded just like you show but it will not sew. One time it sewed. the next 2 times it would not sew. I removed the button hole attachment and the machined sewed just fine. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? Thank you

I know that your comment is over two years old, but I had the same issue as you, I found out that one of the cogs was out of alignment on the buttonholes itself, with the the foot facing you, it is located on the left hand side, you have to take the cover off of it to get to the cog. Add a generous amount of oil, lift the metal plate to fit the cog. Hope this helps.
How to buy this tots
Thank you for this video. Your demonstration of this foot addresses many if not all of my questions I had if I ever were to use this attachment. I’m in the process of acquiring (eBay purchase) an older sewing machine. My newer/old computerized Husqvarna ‘died’. The parts to repair it are not worth investing in. The current price of the machine has devalued exponentially. Having said that, I find your video quite useful. I can see the limitations as well as the potential of this attachment. Thank you again and I look forward to more of your amazing videos. PS May I suggest a stabilizing fabric with interfacing to help with the outcome of your buttonholes? ✌️❤️
@CurioByBSpokeDesigns
2 жыл бұрын
I was aware of interfacing but didn't have any (as I'm not a sewer!). I'm glad you found the video useful.
If your machine has "drop Feed", you do not need to use the plate. Also you will have a bit more clearance under the presser foot..
is it possible to use it on a new sewing machine?

@@CurioByBSpokeDesigns What if you tried starting the buttonhole just before one of the "ends" and, as soon as it has rounded that end, "advancing" the buttonhole to the other end just before it is about to work that end of the buttonhole? It might not be quite an eyelet but it would be very close with two "ends" butted right up against each other. If you decide to give it a try and it works I'd love to see a video of that, pretty please. ;-) (I thought of this idea some time ago but haven't had a chance to try the experiment and, even if I did and it worked, I don't know how to make really good videos like you do!)
