Nice video! Mine came from a family business clothing shop with tailor services. When the business closed, it became the family machine. It was nicely taken care of and in a cabinet that has drawers on both sides. I am now using it more than my high-end electronic machine to make my quilt blocks. TFS

Randy, I couldn't have said it better than you did. Surgical precision. YES! Perfect stitches. I could listen to a 201-2 all day and night. What a great sound. I saw somewhere that the 15-91 was the farmer's wife's machine. The 201-2 was the dressmaker's machine. Stitches as straight as an arrow. My all time favorite.

I love this machine so much I have 2! One in a Singer 42 cabinet with the built in/retractable foot pedal - so art deco. Agree with everything - it's hard to beat the quality of these straight stitches. Yours is especially nice - and well taken card of, for sure!

I have one. It is smoove as butter, and makes the best stitch I've ever seen. However, I still prefer my Kenmore 158.17600 as it's more versatile. Or maybe my Juki DU1181n industrial walking stitch. Gotta give my 1970's Consew 227 compound walking stitch cylinder arm some love. New machines don't sew as well as vintage, not by a long shot. I regret buying my Babylock, it's a finicky lightweight that balks at 6 layers of quilt cotton.

I went to pick up a free vintage singer fashionmate 237 in a table that was posted on Facebook Marketplace because the owner of a house was moving across country and didn't want to lug it with her since she didn't sew (belonged to her grandmother). We got to talking and she was happy the machine was going to be used by someone who has loved to sew since I was 14. She mentioned she had another vintage machine in a table with the stool in the attic that she hadn't posted yet, but that I could have that one for free as well if I wanted. It ended up being a Singer 201 in a Queen Anne table with the matching stool. I was the happiest girl alive that day. 😊

Randy, have you worked on a Singer 1200? Supposedly the same as the 201-2 but with added knee lift and pedal (like an industrial). My other question is, if you have can the foot pedal (since it’s industrial style) able to be rewired? Hope my question makes sense. Appreciate your time.

The 201 is a tailoring and alterations machine for fine garments. It won’t accept heavy threads. The machine you should’ve bought is a Singer 31-15 or at least a Singer 15-90. They will be able to accept heavier threads and a bigger motor. Ideally, the machines that are made for canvas and leather are the Singer 111W on the low end, and a Consew 206RB or Seiko 206 on the high end. Don’t feel bad, everyone always buys the wrong machine before they do the research. Maybe you can cancel the sale.
