The recent development of the Paya Lebar area, which includes the Paya Lebar Quarter Mall is quite stupendous because, as I remember it back then it was quite dull and ordinary. Today it's totally different and some might even say ,futuristic as far as some of the building development and architecture is concerned. PLQ is indeed "a mall full of quirks". The PLQ mall really brought some live to the area. Good to see "big" crowds again =)

City Plaza Mall, PLQ Mall are located at a location known since British days as Geylang Area. During British colonization days this is a Malay enclave which starts at junction of Paya Lebar Rd / Sims Avenue / Haig Rd all the way to Upper Changi Rd. As such, u will find all kinds of Malay culture / tradition / food etc shops at this area and Malays patronizing this area. U will also find many of the roads and streets are in Malay names eg Geylang Serai, Engku Aman Road, Jalan Eunos, Jalan Ubi, Jalan Yasin, Telok Kerau,Lorong Melayu, etc. Hence, it inaccurate to call this area as Little Indonesia. The Indonesian National language is slightly different from Malay language. To non Indonesians they sound the same. Some terminologies are different too. Malay address a Mr as Enchik while Indonesians address as Pak.

There is an "old school" food court at the top floor. If my memory is correct, the western food is quite nice =)

Sorry to say your title ‘Little Indonesia’ doing injustice to the Malay Community as that area u called ‘Little Indonesia’ is a Malay enclave. Shud change the title as it is misleading & inaccurate as mentioned by Lee WN is his comments. Indonesian Maids congregate at City Plaza, PLQ Malls, Geylang Serai on their Off Day (Sunday) unashamedly these area being called ‘Little Indonesia’.

That said, City Plaza (and probably the whole Paya Lebar stretch) is well known locally as the hangout spot for the Indonesia foreign workers and my title naming would like to reflects this. I will pin LEE WN's comment to the top so people who are keen on history and local knowledge will know more.

It's a legacy. Filipinos - Lucky plaza. Indonesians - City plaza/PLQ. Burmese - Peninsula plaza. Thai - Golden Mile. Chinese - Chinatown. Indians - Little India. Malays - Geylang Serai.

City Plaza/ PLQ are extremely crowded on Sundays. And I'm not exaggerating. It feels like you're in a foreign country, not Singapore. Head over and you'll see. Not the most pleasant experience tbh.
