Singapore Airlines flight hits severe turbulence | DW News
One person has died and several more were injured during "severe turblence" on a flight from London to Singapore. The Singapore Airlines Boeing was diverted to Bangkok, where emergency services were on the ground. A witness said turbulence led to those not wearing seatbelts hitting overhead cabins. An airline spokesman has confirmed the fatality and injuries. There were 211 passengers and 18 crew on board.

Let me guess, no seatbelts, this is why they warn you to always wear your seatbelts when seated.

That's really reassuring. No problem with violent turbulence if you have perfect health, ladies and gentlemen. Welcome on-board!

@@TheTwangKings no one said that.. only mentioning it cause the respondent DW engaged was not being factually accurate.. 7 others were also critically injured as it was a sudden drop in altitude.. this unfortunate event reminds us that we should also buckle up as much as possible throughout the duration of the flight regardless of health status as turbulences are extremely common
Do you drive your car with the seat belt on? Then why to you remove it when flying in a jet at 30,000 feet?

On a totally unrelated matter, the dead fella is a former Boeing whistleblower 😅
Clear Air turbulence is invisible to radar. The only way to be aware of it, is if a previous aircraft flying through the same area has experienced turbulence. And contacts ground control in the area to warn other aircraft.
Boeing whistle blower didn't kill themself
Not the people blaming the plane.....a year ago, Lufthansa A330 from Austin to Frankfurt experienced heavy turbulence, no one is blaming Airbus.

Just speaking from my understanding as a researcher with a background in fluid dynamics, more frequent occurence of severe turbulence is a rather expected consequence of climate change. Not an exact analogy, but everyone is familiar with the convective (hot air going up) current over a heated road in summer that creates that shaky view over it. That's a consequence of warming of the ground at a small scale. Now, in the scale of the earth, with oceans, mountains, forests, deserts, glaciers, and the rotational motion, it is a way more complex phenomenon. Also, it is very unpredictable due to very nature of the equations that define them ( there is in fact 1 million prize for the one who can solve the Navier Stokes equations analytically). It's a bit scary, but just like more frequent occurrence of floods and draughts now a days, the next thing climate change will bring is more air turbulence. Nothing comes for free. We developed our civilization, expandaded our habitat, removed forests, and so on. So just have to accept that we also have to pay the price. There will be consequences.
Kudos to the skillful pilots handling the situation and landing safely.
Sad incident.
Boeing da flying co-ffin
He was actually scared to death. I know my heart beats faster in severe turbulence.
Hi, I don't know how many people have ever noticed this, I have, you are flying from point A to Point B and at one point during the flight the fasten seat belt sign goes on and off, on and off at intervals, I tend to listen and follow and if it persists I just leave the seat belt on. If the flight is smooth and the fasten seat belt sign remains off, you can leave it off until preparations for landing, but in the case of this SQ flight and if I was on it and the sign was going on and Off, my seat belt would remain on.
It’s always Boeing
That’s why you wear a seatbelt at all times .

Planes are meant to flex especially in events like turbulence, otherwise they would literally fall apart. Are you seriously trying to suggest that Boeing is at fault here? Is it so hard to accept that weather can be deadly sometimes, in a world of hurricanes and tornadoes?

Singapore should use Airbus rather than Boeing when this turbulence occurred.

Zero to do with a turbulence incident. Turbulence affects all aircraft

@@haroldlipschitz9301 On the 12th of March a Boeing Dreamliner heading from from New Zeeland to Santiago de Chille also suffered from a sudden and severe drop that caused some passengers and staff to be severely injured, unbelted passengers were also slammed against the ceiling. That incident was not attributed to turbulence and is being investigated. Furthermore, two Boeing 737-MAX aircrafts also crashed into oblivion a couple of years ago, they also all of a sudden autonomously decided to descend/plung extremely rapidly, this fault was attributed to errors made in the design of the planes in combination with how the plane's computer system interpreted and acted upon signals form the plane's hight sensors. I wouldn't be so sure about claims that Boeing aircraft that plunged 1400 meters in mere minutes was caused by "turbulence", regardless if the MSM is claiming this.

climate change caused temperature rises and less clouds in some places, and concentrated clouds in other places.. instead of well spreaded clouds across region. so unfortunate for flights on less cloud , they wont be able to spot clear air turbulence…. Sevee turbulence in the past can be predicted visually due to cloud and moisture existence detected by radar. Climate change renders this visual and radar aid useless in some region… this is very real thing.
