How come Singapore became a 7th biggest port in the world in 1950s? And Ford Malaya became the first automobile assembly plant in Southeast Asia upon its establishment in Singapore in 1926. What kind of "fishing village" has all these?

That is demolised Kallang gas work but the Indian temple exists till today. The tiny plot of land is purchased by the PWD workers to build the Indian temple in Kampong Bugis.

It is Singapore Harbour Board but now known as PSA. Those were the days of FOB(Free On Board) for all shipping cargo liners. Those godowns are still at the opposite of Liang Court.

The British FOB(Free On Board) had attracted many trading ships to Singapore with her flourishing 'entreport trade' at Clifford Pier where the 'inner road' water was shallower hence the usage of 'bumboat' that plied the Singapore River(the river of life).

Biggest Lie of the Century. This is not Singapore. Singapore supposed to be a swamp or some colonial outpost before Lee Kuan Yew not a bustling important port with important commercial position in South East Asia in 1950s.

Who said the whole of Singapore was a fishing village or swamp? What you see is mainly the city center here in the video. The fact is other than the city area which was develop, there were many farmlands, fishing villages, swamps (like 7:00 in the video) and slums with poor sanitation and unhygienic practices on the island back then. These were indeed transformed into what we see today, satellite towns, industrial parks, etc. A great achievement which is undeniable and recognised both nationally and internationally.

@Alexandria School of Science I dont see or hear such a propaganda which is a myth. You care to show me where they are??? Btw for those who lived in the country all their lives and elected and stood by the government, they know whats the truth. They dont need no videos like these to show them whats the past is like, what happened, whats real. Its no myth, the changes, the progress etc.

@Alexandria School of Science Btw if a narrative is that Singapore rose from a fishing village to what it is today, it is not wrong. Singapore in the early 19th century was largely a fishing community beside being a trading outpost. Maybe some people themselves read wrongly into this narrative without questioning, thought and research. So they ended up with the wrong impressions the country was a fishing village when it became independent, under the PAP. I dont think there was any intent to deceive or misrepresent such historical facts as it would be too stupid and easily exposed, even without such videos.....

They did not run away. They together with the local soldiers fought against the Japanese invaders but lost the battle. They surrendered, were captured, incarcerated and they suffered the most under the hands of the Japanese, just like the locals, and those Australians who served here. There is a Kranji War Memorial in honor of this, Please do not distort history and slam others left and right in ignorance.....

@@exs1803 Thank you EC S for putting that record straight. Yes there were those who evacuated to Australia, but the vast majority, including Governor Shenton Thomas, stood their posts and surrendered, and were incarcerated at Changi. Far from abandoning Singapore, the British poured in the soldiers to the colony but due to fighting in Europe and North Africa, simply could not provide adequate equipment. Formal colonialism has had its day, but in the long string of empires from the Egyptians, Babylonians down to the Nazi German Reich and Japanese empire, the British were considerably more benevolent.
