Recently I saw this vocal coach explaining how to spot this mistake: place your index finger in the back of your jaw (bone going down from your ear), and your middle on the "hinge of the jaw" (by the earlobe). When you open your mouth, and the hinge kinda pops out so you feel it with your middle, but your index doesn't move much, then you're doing it "wrong". So the right way is to open your mouth, nothing pops against your middle finger, and your index is slightly pushed back. I was wondering what you thought of this, Tara (and company), though I gotta say, it felt like magic ever since I learned about that, so my natural instinct tells me 👌👌

My teacher told me that to avoid the tension on the lower jaw, we should raise our upper jaw instead so the lower jaw involuntarily goes down.

Please please talk about recognizing when you're damaging your voice when singing. My voice gets tired after singing one song. Even a bit strained despite doing my absolute best to sing from the diaphragm. But after a few minutes of rest my voice feels alright. Help

@@jaquilward840 HEY i know Tara hasnt replied yet, not sure she will, BUT I figured something out! I realized that i was pushing way too much air out as i sang. The goal isnt to push my lung-full of air out at once, rather to sing with compression (a concentrated stream of air, but still without tension). Not sure if that was your problem but it's fixed a lot for me!

For me, jaw tension is strictly a theatre character tool.
