Your voice is a muscle and if you're serious about wanting to learn to sing well then you need to strengthen that muscle. I can speak from experience, as someone who couldn't belt, twang, sing more than an octave and a bit and had massive pitching issues to someone who has been singing professionally for the last 15 years. I did at least 15 minutes exercising a day as well as singing through lots of material and within six months my voice made an incredible change. You can too.

Oh Anna and Mark. I have been waiting for something like this for ages! Don't know if you can remember me saying that I had branched out into a little light opera. Well you are taking that one step further for me! We are away for 2 weeks tomorrow, so I am also a little frustrated but I shall have my PC with me in case I get some free time (!). It really bothers me that I shall be away from singing for a fortnight, but I will still do the warm ups. Part of the time we are staying with family, and part in hotels, so the other guests will have to put up with it if I decide to sing. I hope my voice will not go backwards whilst we're away. You have my thanks as usual. I cannot wait to get into this one! I had done some practice a little earlier on in fact, so I couldn't resist trying it out, just a little! I was pretty pleased because my upper register has moved up quite a bit now, from Mezzo, to more of a soprano level. But I still sing the widest range of notes that I can manage. I have "duetted" Tonight from West Side Story with no trouble, and also love singing If I Loved You. Sorry, I've got carried away as usual, but you both seem to be reading my mind! Kindest regards. xx

Personally, I wouldn't be telling beginners or any vocalist for that matter to "Keep Going" if your vocal chords are under a lot of pressure and strain. But I think you meant just to not be discouraged, so I get what you mean. But if your vocal chords are feeling stressed or painful then STOP and rest of at least a day.

So I have a question. I’m bass transition to baritone. Anyways the highest I could go was A5 that was year go and I practice whistle voice excersise and go to a D6. Now I can hit E6. But here’s the issue I think practicing head voice and having high larynx stop me from hitting the D6. Usually I could hit a power B5 in headvoice. But now it’s weak I have determined to factor that either I didn’t practice the whistle excersise enough or that straining probably was a probably was the factor. Now I can still hit the note but only on rested larynx. So what imma do is what on larynx control excersise and continue the whistle voice excersise and I stop going for more cause once I hit the note I couldn’t hit again until minutes later the E6 but after that the highest my be C6. I learn to stop straining and allow my voice to develop until I can get me a vocal coach.

Is it ok to do this every day? And if it's still comfortable, can we go beyond when you stop playing/ singing the scales? Just want to check super-high singing regularly won't do any damage, and how to balance stretching a bit further than comfortable to get a bigger range, vs. going to far and damaging. I've lost a couple of notes from being out of practice in the last few months, currently have a decent C#6, can hit D6 but not well. Want to see if I can eventually get up to that F6 for the Queen of Night's aria, if you could advise what's the most you can do healthily. Thank you!
