Written by Ralph McTell in 1968 or 69, but sung so much more emotively by this beautiful Irish songstress in her signature haunting style. I just wish she had continued for another 60-90 seconds to include the final verse... "And have you seen the old man Outside the Seamen's Mission Memory fading with The medal ribbons that he wears? In our winter city The rain cries a little pity For one more forgotten hero And a world that doesn't care..."

Have you seen the old man in the closed down market Picking up the papers with his worn out shoes In his eyes you see no pride hand held loosely at his side Yesterday's paper, telling yesterday's news So how can you tell me you're lonely and say for you that the sun don't shine Let me take you by the hand and lead you through the streets of London I'll show you something to make you change your mind Have you seen the old girl who walks the streets of London Dirt in her hair and her clothes in rags She's no time for talking she just keeps right on walking Carrying her home,in two carrier bags So how can you tell me you're lonely and say for you that the sun don't shine Let me take you by the hand and lead you through the streets of London I'll show you something to make you change your mind In the all night cafe ,at a quarter past eleven Same old man sitting there on his own Looking at the world over the rim of his tea-cup each tea lasts an hour and he wanders home alone So how can you tell me that you're lonely and say for you that the sun don't shine Let me take you by the hand and lead you through the streets of London I'll show you something to make you change your mind I'll show you something to make you change your mind

Beautiful version Sinéad's voice is a God Given gift Sinéad has said she can't sing this live without crying🙏

This version brings buckets of tears to my eyes. RIP
Tu laisses un vide énorme Sinead, tu aimais beaucoup cette chanson ! je l'écoute avant de dormir et je pense très fort à toi.
I saw Sinead live many years ago singing 'In the name of the father'.It was incredible.
RIP Sinead love light & blessings to follow you on your new journey with your Son.🙏
It might be an otherwise drab day, but now I get to hear Sinead, so thank you Ivan, love your contribution to my day. Sinead rocksss
A beautiful song, loved the original and love this...only just discovered this and it makes me miss her all the more. Such a loss.
The most beautiful haunting voice, listened to her since i could walk, timeless
another different beautiful version to this wonderful song, seems like the song was at first written for Sinead O'Connor
I am a Londoner and this song always moves me to tears...........

Beauty with genius. A great interpreter of songs and songwriter, too.
Every song makes me cry
Her death broke my heart , She was the crush of then a teenage boy , her voice just pulling you in, her face so angelic, and her demeanour so bad ass .. RIP Sinead , I hope that you find your peace .
RIP Sinead x

I love her because I can hear every word, important in a song like this.
A genuine angel on earth. RIP Sinead. I love you.
What a moving song beautifully sung
Amore a te ❤
Beatiful song, Beatiful lady to be remembered for ever

Very beautiful women and very memorable voice, very underrated and hasn't had the recognition she deserves.most know of sinead from the written prince( your in heaven now prince thanks for all you've done towards the music industry, you were taken too soon) song nothing compares, but sinead has more than just this song that takes your breathe away and put a tear in your eye.

a quiet masterpiece
healing, beautiful voice
Beautiful soul 😢 with a voice like an angel that came from the heart. ❤❤❤
Beautiful but I expected nothing less from such a wonderful singer.

Every hair on my body is standing up right now.. I know this song, but in Dutch. It hits me when I hear it but even more when she sings it.

+Marjolein van der Steldt how does the Dutch version sounds like ? ben benieuwd ;)
I haven’t been listening to much to this gem of late Then when she passed I really got interested again and now I realize how much I have missed her music her outstanding talent So now I am trying to gather her best music etc before I pass on
Another talented artist gone too soon 😢
The Best of all versions
She didn't care about the money then, and she doesn't care about it now. No matter whether you like her, you can't take this from her: she is a winner in a world of losers. Streets of London - Sinead O'Connor
