Yep, when even Marge falls asleep at church, you know this church service is going to be soooo dull and uninspiring and needs to make some serious changes to get people inspired and interested in joining.

My god is this the most accurate representation of every time I was forced to go to church before. Well, except for the sound panel.

My mother couldn't tell you two bits about the Simpsons, unless one of her grandchildren told her about it, but she was in the room and the tv was on and when they came through the door, "man, am I glad to be out of there" she just laughed.

This makes me remember as a kid how boring the church sermons are and I just wanted to skip straight to the closing hymns and go home.

In the scene where Homer's head is swinging forward into the back of the pew we can clearly see Edna sat in one of the rows behind, and yet when we see the rest of the congregation she is nowhere to be seen. Are we to believe that this is some sort of magic pew? Boy, I sure hope somebody got fired for that blunder.

Honestly of the whole town have a choice then only Flanders and marge would be the only once in church

Marge can be such a hypocrite. Even though she was awake at the start of the first sermon and elbowed Bart and Lisa for their dozing off, she herself would fall asleep like everyone else during the re-reading of the sermon.

I don't see her as a hypocrite here. The sermon was objectively boring as fuck, so naturally, everyone was falling asleep. She just felt they should try to dutifully pay attention regardless. She was trying to do the right thing as she saw it, trying to keep the rest of the family awake and to stay awake herself. And in the end she dozed off. I honestly don't see any hypocrisy there, Marge is no Lois Griffin after all. Her concern is genuine, well meaning.

Marge's devoutness is admirable yet completely illogical

Thank goodness the church I used to go to had pamphlets at least for us to follow the sermon and better understand it... until the padrecito passed on and with it the deer they were looking after was moved and the place fell into disrepair. Still it woulda been cool to see our pastor use the same button as reverend lovejoy.
